About this property
Marigold Cottage, Docking, Norfolk
Marigold Cottage is a delightful cottage located down a quiet lane overlooking Major Hare's estate parkland in Docking. There are fields at the rear of the cottage with grazing sheep, and to the side an ancient wood with snowdrops in the spring and wildflowers in the summer. Marigold Cottage's dining kitchen is open-plan and ideal for entertaining with a stable door leading to the enclosed rear garden.
There is a wonderful fireplace in the large sitting room and large, comfy sofas to curl up in front of the wood burning stove. The kitchen is well equipped and stylish, with a Rangemaster stove, island storage and Belfast sink, as well as adjacent good sized dining table. Upstairs there are two bedrooms; a master and a double. There is plenty of room for a travel cot in the master bedroom. The bathroom has a bath with shower over - perfect for relaxing those muscles after a long walk on one of the many stunning local beaches - Old Hunstanton, Brancaster and Holkham, to name but a few, which are just a short drive away. For shopping and restaurants, visit nearby Burnham Market five miles away.
There are miles of lovely country walks from your doorstep, and tens of thousands of geese descend on the fields around Docking to feed in winter, a truly incredible sight and sound. If you're looking for a quieter base than the bustling coastal villages, Docking is a very central location with lots of interest around, and still only five miles from the coast at Brancaster.
Additional Information: Sorry, no pets. Travel cot and high chair available on request. Please bring your own linen for the travel cot. There is no starter pack (tea, coffee, sugar and milk) or welcome hamper provided at this property.

We used the cottage for a long weekend break walking the dogs along local beaches and relaxing by the fire. Great time would happily visit again.

Nice weekend away
Nice touches, like the wood burner being on when we arrived, lovely location, peaceful. Could have done with a curtain over the front door and window.

New years break
Simply beautiful. Magical for all the family. Local pub serves spectacular food. Shop open for long periods of the day and evening, selling pretty much all your daily needs.

Good but could be much better
Not many essentials left I.e coffee, cleaning clothes etc. Ok but not the usual standard we have had at other Norfolk properties.
Kitchen requires a bit of attention, looks a bit shabby-very chipped paint and kitchen sink a bit mouldy

My stay
My husband and I had a wonderful stay in Marigold Cottage, it was very clean and comfortable, and the area was so quiet with just the sounds of the birds and the cows in the morning, what a way to start your day. There was everything in the cottage you could have wished for and more such as high chair, buggy, picnic basket if you so wished.
The cottage was in a good position for shops, beaches and some lovely walks.

Lovely location
Lovely location. Cottage bigger than thought which was great. Pots and pans could do with being updated and garden area over grown. These minor things didn’t ruin our break. Would go back again.

A lovely place to stay
Marigold Cotrage is a lovely place to stay. Clean, well presented and with pretty much everything you need. Good parking, fresh sheets, handy and quiet location. Good infornation and yummy goodies in the welcome pack. Downsides ; showering over the free standing bath was difficult. No shower curtain and a short hand held shower. Communication with Norfolk Hideaways was not so good. We advised our party would arrive on seperate dates, they replied stating there was no discount? I wasn't asking for discount I was being courteous. When I contacted them as I thought I left a swimming costume behind and they asked £15 to post it back! Booking agent aside, overall we really recommend this lovely cottage.

A good break
The stay was good but always room for improvement . Like cleaning work surfaces and storage jar found to have food sauces on them and having to repair gate padlock to make it safe for the dog.

Lovely cottage in beautiful location
Marigold Cottage is very well located in a lovely village, in a quiet position right next to a bridleway so great to get straight out for walks. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped, beds in particular were very comfortable. Not much storage space in the bedrooms though, could definitely do with another chest of drawers. The only negative for me was that there is only a bath and no shower. It is a small bath too, not ideal when you are a family of 5 all wanting to shower off after the beach.

Good location but need to renew furnishings
The location of this cottage is amazing, the sort of place I like to be, very quiet, lovely walks on your doorstep and some fishing around the corner perfect.
The cottage looks lovely from the outside and looks nice on the inside but when you came to sit on the sofa it was awful the padding in the cushions was so worn that no matter what way you sat on it it was uncomfortable. All it would take is to put some new cushions in the covers, a lot of people have sat on them and they are very old. The stairs are very slippery to walk up and down it would be much safer if they had put individual carpet square on each step. As for the bed it was horrible, we stayed in the master bedroom (king size bed) and the mattress was one of the worst I have ever slept in (not that you could even sleep in it) my daughter had also said that the double bed was also uncomfortable. The mattress had what looked like a pot hole in it and felt like one, was very uncomfortable so ruined my holiday as I got no sleep. For the money we paid I would say that one dish washer tablet was a bit tight, I had to phone up Norfolk hideaways on the first day as had no fire wood so had no cosy fire on the first night which we where all looking forward too and although there is nothing to say you get a welcome pack for the money you pay it would not hurt to put one in.

our family stay at the Marigold Cottage docking
We stayed here with our daughter husband and two grandchildren .We did have a quite a few issues ,high chair was full of hairs .The dining table tipped up with two stone candle sticks just missing our grandsons face ,no fire guard .These issues where sorted but we all feel they should have been sorted before we moved into the property .While we where staying the oil tank had to be replaced has there was a leak in it ,lucky enough we where going out for the day but still feel again should have been sorted .Slabs out the back are all loose not children or adult friendly and the garden needs a very good tidy .All small details but all needed to be sorted and checked before any one was staying .Food storage there is none .
The area is lovely and very peaceful we all loved the wood burner and the comfy sofas .The bed linen was so lovely and soft we all slept well.Just feel the house and garden need attention .We would stay here again has we would like to think that all issues of any kind would all be sorted has we fell in love with the area and would do the house once it had the attention it needs .

Beautiful setting for Cottage
After a few hiccups upon arrival, Marigold Cottage proved to be a toasty stay in February half term. Positioned right by a bridleway with walks around nearby fields it was lovely to be able to wander right from the doorstop. It had a lovely copse of trees nearby with beautiful birdsong to enjoy of a morning.
The open plan nature of the downstairs meant that if the kids were watching TV it was a bit intrusive within the dining room as you couldn't close the area off (and it being February, we weren't heading into the garden!). The kitchen was well equipped, the bedrooms lovely. A shower would greatly benefit the house, as would a separate loo... luckily there were only four of us, but if at full capacity of six staying, that could be a problem.
A pretty cottage feel and lovely setting.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review Marigold Cottage.
We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the cottage and that the owner of the property managed to sort out the issues you experienced so promptly.
The cottage does have a lovely setting and we’re glad you enjoyed the bridleway and the country walks.
It is disappointing to hear that the open plan layout of the downstairs area was not to your liking. This has not previously been an issue for our guests but we will certainly pass your feedback on to the owner.
Best wishes, The Hideaways Team.

Inviting, comfortable, well equipped cottage
Spent four beautiful peaceful days in this lovely cottage. Great kitchen for cooking. Loved the wood burning stove in the living room during the storms. Walking paths right from your door...
