A lovely, cosy cottage. Very friendly and helpful host, the welcome basket was wonderful. Great base for exploring the Scottish Boarders, we had a fantastic week at Bartlehill.
Excellent home from home property. Had everything you needed. Was located in a very peaceful location. Enjoyed watching the wildlife especially the hares. Welcome box was very much appreciated.
Fantastic comfortable property with everything you could wish for including a games room and tennis court and cricket practice net also on site. A superb welcome pack included everything you could wish for, the location was peaceful and far enough away to be rural but only 12 minutes from Kelso and Coldstream. Overall an excellent property and holiday
The most amazing property with a truly wonderful host! A home away from home that was relaxing, cozy, wonderfully comfortable and had everything we needed and more. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer. We will be back!

We had a superb stay at number 4 Bartlehill cottages. The welcome tray was tip-top - the best we've ever had.
The cottage was comfortable (especially the beds) and warm, with excellent views out to the Cheviot.
The games room was a bit too chilly to use much, the legs on the table football were unsteady; plus we missed a measuring jug for custard-making!
This was our first time staying at Bartlehill & it certainly didn't disappoint. We had such a lovely holiday. The cottage is bright & airy, very comfortable with plush sofas & a beautiful fireplace. The whole cottage along with the views and garden are as good as they look on line. We visited both Holy Island & the coastline down to Almouth. Plus the villages within the Scottish Borders all within easy reach from the cottage. We were extremely lucky with the weather too (mini heatwave) Will definitely return to this little gem.
By far this is the best cottage we have ever stayed in. It's immaculately clean and cosy.
We were extremely pleased with the care and attention to detail that Lowri has clearly shown when furnishing this cottage. It's just beautiful. The welcome pack was excellent. All you would need for breakfast the following day. The area has so much to give, from countryside walks to beaches. The beach at Coldingham is fantastic for swimming or just lazing on the sand. We would definitely return to Bartlehill it was just superb. Thank you Lowri.

Thank you so much Jackie for your wonderful review and I hope we see you again. Lowri
All three generations and the dog loved the cottage. I think they all wanted to move in. Cost peaceful and tastefully done. The kitchen is a little small, but wasn't a problem. The games room was a big hit, as was the access to the tennis court and cricket net - excellent additions. It's a little tricky to find - confuses the satnav, but what three words is perfect
This is a wonderfully situated property, very peaceful and with a lovely view from the front. It was lovely to be able to step out of the cottage to either a well-kept, secure back garden, a woodland, or a quiet lane bordered by fields.
The cottage is well equipped and very clean and we had plenty of space for 6 of us.
Our teenage boys spent a lot of time in the garage/playroom, enjoying the table tennis and table football.
Lowri is an excellent host-great communication and had clearly gone to extra lengths to ensure the cottage is Covid safe.
We'd love to come back for a return visit!

Overall a lovely location and very well equipped and furnished cottage. Would love to go back. Two or three minor points worth attending to. Written instructions on how to get there seemed ambiguous. (Ended up using Google Maps.) Loose slabs on back steps. Markings on cooker knobs worn off in places making it difficult to set temperatures. Far more positives - too many to list!!
Bartlehill Cottage is a truly wonderful place to stay. Far reaching views, peaceful, great parking, beautiful secure garden, fun games room and beautiful walks straight from the front door. The cottage is really comfortable and spacious and everything was so easy to use no fiddly showers or complicated cookers. The beds are super comfortable with crisp cotton bedding and wonderful views. Plenty of towels and generously stocked cupboards and a very generous welcome basket. Lowri is there if you need her and responds quickly and kindly to messages. We had a fantastic time exploring the borders during the day and spending time in the evening enjoying the garden, taking a stroll and enjoying games. It is the kind of place which feels like home and which you may never want to leave! Good for the soul. Thank you, we all loved staying at Bartlehill.

Wow! Thank you so much Lisa.
I can’t tell you how much pleasure it gives us when we hear how much you’ve enjoyed your time at Bartlehill. Lowri x
The cottage is cozy and comfortable and is surrounded by spectacular views of the Scottish countryside. The owner was a wonderful host and was very responsive to our every need. With a rental car, the cottage offers easy access for day trips throughout most of southern Scotland. During our stay, we traveled by car to St. Andrews, Stirling, Dunbar, Holy Island, Leith, Bewick-Upon-Tweed, Roslin, Peebles, Coldstream, Kelso, Callander and Loch Lomond. We also took the train from Berwick-Upon-Tweed for day trips to both Edinburgh and Glasgow in order to avoid the inconvenience of driving and parking in those cities. The trains to both destinations ran regularly each day and the fares were very reasonable. We also enjoyed long, relaxing walks along the many country lanes surrounding the cottage. We throughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage and would highly recommend this property to others seeking a more authentic Scottish experience.

Wonderful stay at Bartlehill Cottage. Peaceful and quiet. Equidistant between the lovely towns of Coldstream and Kelso. Beaches reachable in about 45 mins. The cottage has been beautifully and tastefully renovated. Highly recommended for families with a fully dog proof garden and games room. Loved it.
Lovely house, very well equipped and laid out. Lowri was very helpful in advance. Super welcome pack and kitchen essentials. Very comfortable beds and nice towels. Garden perfect for dogs and children as safe and well gated, with nice outdoor seating. Nice walks from the property. Games room really fab. Great to watch the harvest happening around us! Highly recommend
We loved the quiet location, it was lovey sitting on the patio with a glass of wine, with a book, looking at the hills in the distance. Great welcome pack with the addition of eggs from the girls we saw on the way in. There was also a well stocked cupboard of essentials and dishwasher tablets and washing pods. There was also a great supply of toilet rolls, everything you need. We had a Tesco order delivered as well when we arrived. The bed in the main bedroom was very comfortable and the shower is great. Every thought has been made in this great property.
We had a lovely time staying at Bartlehill. The cottage was spotless and very comfortable and the location was perfect for taking lots of day trips in the area, as well as Northumberland. We enjoyed playing tennis and cricket in the grounds. Communication with Lowri was excellent throughout. We would have no hesitation in recommending Bartlehill or visiting again.
We had a lovely week's holiday at this great cottage. Communication with Lowri was really easy and there was plenty of space both inside and out of the property. The garden is secure and our dog loved spending time outside. Lots of lovely places to visit nearby including walks and beaches. Hope to return in the future.
Very last minute booking but 100% satisfied with the cottage and location. Kelso was a beautiful place and kept our interest.
Although we never met Lowri, she kept in touch via messaging and very attentive. All very happy here ....
Just loved everything about this cottage and also the location. Both surpassed expectations! Unique setting set amidst rolling countryside away from busy roads yet still accessible to shops places of interest and beaches..
The cottage is spacious and furnished with style using high quality bedlinen and towels.
Comfortable couches and beds with the best pillows!
The games room provided us with a few hours of fun with full size table tennis, darts and soccer game. Safe enclosed garden with adjoining private wood which opens onto the farm halfway round so would advise keep g dogs under close control re the chooks!
We didn't meet Lowri our host but absolutely appreciated the cosy warmth as we stepped inside along with the welcome pack of bread, butter, milk, coffee, bacon, and fresh eggs from aforementioned chooks and biscuits..
Would highly recommend to any age group and would definitely return. Thankyou Lowri we had a lovely weekend 🐾❤️👍🤗

About the host

I live with my husband, Peter and three children at Bartlehill. We have lived in the Scottish Borders since 1996 when we moved from London. Peter is Scottish, and although not from the Borders, we knew the area well and loved it so much decided it was where we wanted to bring up our family. I have never regretted the move and love the countryside, the people and the peace
Why they chose this property
The views from Bartlehill Cottage are stunning and vary from day to day. You look across the countryside to the Cheviots from the front and from the rear you can see to Hume Castle. It's centrally based in The Borders so gives easy access to the wonderful beaches on the east coast, an hour north to Edinburgh, the lovely towns of Kelso and Melrose to the west, and the Cheviot Hills and Northumberland to the south.
