The village boasts 1 pub, a fantastic butcher (renowned in the area), bakers (also very good), as well as a local shop/newsagents (which is very well stocked). The historic village is one of the most northerly in England. Situated on the south bank of the magnificent River Tweed, steeped in history, it is a magnificent place to live or visit.

I must mention this before I forget - do not miss the chip van every Thursday night outside the pub at 6pm - you will not get better fish and chips :)

Norham sits on the southern bank of the Tweed, the river forming the national boundary between England and Scotland. Norham has an historic Castle and Church and is a wonderful centre for visitors, with a wide range of fascinating locations and attractions within easy travelling distance.

Dominating the village, sitting on a bluff overlooking the river, the castle featured in many Border conflicts until the Union of the Crowns. It was a favourite subject for JMW Turner, and many artists since, on their Borders visits.

Ideally situated for fishing enthusiasts. Take a riverside walk and enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of the scenery. You can obtain a trout fishing permit or just spend a lazy day watching the salmon, swans, herons, ducks and numerous other varieties of birds that share this beauty spot.

The River Tweed has always been famous for its salmon and is still regarded today as one of the best salmon fishing rivers in the country, with Berwick still having a very small fishing fleet. Fishing, golf and riding are all available locally and there is a leisure centre in Tweedmouth offering a pool with waves and flume. One mile away from the centre of Berwick is the seaside resort of Spittal, with its sandy beaches.

Berwick has excellent public transport and there is a frequent train service to both Newcastle, Edinburgh and Durham.

The cottage is within travelling distance of the beautiful Northumberland East coastline including Berwick Upon Tweed, Holy Island, Bamburgh, Seahouses and Wooler to the West for the Cheviots and the Northumberland National Park.

The area is surrounded by countless walking and cycling routes including The St Cuthberts Way.

Moving just over the Scottish border, it is also only a short drive to Eyemouth, St Abbs and Coldingham which are also well known for their beautiful beaches. St Abbs is a picturesque harbour village with a sandy beach and very popular for windsurfing.

The cottage is perfectly placed for a trip to the cities of Edinburgh or Newcastle. You can either enjoy a train ride from Berwick which takes around 45 minutes or by car which will take you just over an hour.

The cottage is an ideal base to explore Northumberland’s many fabulous castles dotted along the coast and up into the Scottish Borders where there are many stately homes to visit.

Have a truly wonderful stay.

Four fantastic days
Beautiful, peaceful, cosy. I could go on. The cottage was modern and cosy at the same time. There was a welcome hamper which contained a variety of items which would allow you to eat if you’d brought nothing with you including a cuppa or cappuccino ( with pain au chocolat). The host welcomed us and was available and asked how things were in passing. I would recommend this property and location to anyone. We had a wonderful time.

Beautiful!
Immaculate, beautiful property. Had everything you could possibly need, toiletries etc. Lovely touch of welcome hamper. Location so peaceful but only within half an hour drive to numerous places, beaches etc, Scotland. Great for walks too. Property owners extremely friendly. Weekend not long enough though, would do a week next time.

Fantastic accommodation
Fantastic accommodation, Lee couldn’t be anymore accommodating if he tried. He provided a lovely welcome hamper. It’s a great location about 3 miles outside Berwick on Tweed and about a mile from the river Tweed & the boarder with Scotland. Great to get to many tourists attractions, holy island, Kielder forest, Bamburgh castle, Edinburgh etc. Hope to come back at some stage in the future.

A great place to stay
The property is exactly as shown and Lee is a welcoming and helpful host. The welcome basket was a lovely touch with everything you need for the first day and beyond. The property is immaculately clean and well equipped with the addition of tvs almost everywhere to allow people to watch what they like. The location is excellent for visits all over the border area and visits to lindisfarne and Bambaugh castle are a must. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area.

I have been a landlord since 2000 and owning several properties I believe in excellent customer service. Ensuring your stay is both very comfortable and hassle free. I'm from Yorkshire originally and feel very lucky to be living in Norham.

Why they chose this property

Having lived in Northumberland since 2011 - starting in Seahouses, then Belford then onto Lowick - I've come to know the area very well with all it's history and quaint charm. I've known about Norham for some time but never thought I'd end up living here. It's a cut above in terms of quality, history and a very friendly vibe. With it being quite literally a stones throw from Scotland (which can be seen on a local walk across the Tweed) it's also, for me, got a romantic vibe. The butcher's in second to none - with people traveling far and wide to pay a visit - the bakers sell their items there as well as in Berwick. Whilst Norham has that divine remote country feel it's also within short driving distance from Berwick, Coldstream and Kelso to name but a few - perfect! Oh - and the pub does a great pint and Sunday lunch.

What makes this property unique

Being a renovated cottage - it has been carried out with high quality materials to such a high standard. The minute you step through the door it definitely has that wow factor! Got that lovely period feel whilst having all the mod cons. There's a sun trap (garden and own space) both at the front and back of the property. To top it all off - the property has a large balcony - for a lazy beer or something to eat.
