Lovely old cottage in a peaceful setting with wonderful countryside views. Great walks directly from the cottage and easy access to local places of interest.
Such a lovely comfortable and cosy cottage with fabulous views. It's in a beautiful location with so many sea and country walks all around. John and Diana were very welcoming and wonderful hosts. We couldn't have been happier there.
We loved this cosy cottage with great views. Very well equipped with comfortable beds and good bedding and everything we needed . We were a family of 5 adults and there was plenty of room .
Great location and would definitely rebook
Absolutely perfect accomodation for our family of 6. It is perfectly situtated within walking distance of the coast without having to be within the tourist area. The property manager was fabulous at communicating and left lots of helpful information for us.
The cottage was well equiped and we had everything we needed for our week away.
Well equipped house, great views no complaints except single track down to cottage overgrown with brambles , needs a bit of a trim. Overall pleased all round
Very well equipped, family sized property with a pretty rear garden, situated on the outskirts of Langton Matravers. It is 7 minutes from bus stops & several walks can be started from here. Lovely views from the front double bedroom.
We had a wonderful long weekend staying in this delightful little cottage. The views are spectacular- you can see Corte castle & the sea from the front room & master bedroom. Perfect location for exploring Swanage, Studland & surrounding Dorset countryside. The cottage is really well equipped, very clean & comfy. Parking was easy & for anyone with an EV there are 4 charging points in the main Swanage car park!
John was super helpful & replied quickly to any questions we had.
Highly recommend!
Stayed here over Christmas, great location and views. The cottage itself is tiered and in need of some updating. A lot of the crockery was chipped and not very clean. We also found various items that were clearly left by a previous visitor. It’s was responsibly price we just felt there was a lack of attention to detail.

The guest comments on the great location and views - but feels the cottage tired and needs updating.
Do not understand this comment - which is a generalisation that is easy to make.
In the past year of so we have installed 100% double glazed windows, replaced oil boiler, re-decorated kitchen and dining room, replaced oven, and double mattress.
We will check crockery for chips and replace.
Property is in a beautiful location with stunning views. Very short drive to Swanage and great location for getting to places such as Wareham, Kimmeridge and Durdledoor.
As other reviewers have said, the photos don't do the property justice and in todays climate I found the price good value for the amenities. Very clean and property well equipped.
Just a note that there's a shared passage at the back of the house to get to the back garden. Just need to be mindful if you are bringing dogs.
Also to note, house is accessed by a dirt track.
Loved the property. Perfect location for Purbeck walks, right from the front door. Lovely garden, comfortable lounge, fine kitchen, great shower...
During the second half of our holiday the sun went, and the strong winds started. It was a bit of a challenge saying warm in the master bedroom. The caretaker helped us with the heating settings, and there were lots of blankets provided, but the mattress was so cold as the wind leaked through. Fortunately we had taken an electric blanket with us, which saved the day!

Delighted that you enjoyed your visit to Castle View.
The prevailing winds are, of course, SW - from which our cottage is sheltered. When the winds are strong in the north the front of the house is very exposed. However, as you found, our heating system is good and strong and needs to be turned up if necessary. Pleased that our cleaner was helpful.
Do come again.

This cottage is on a private road which desperately needs resurfacing. The view and peace is wonderful when there. The lounge would benefit from updating. A new carpet would help. It has a lovely garden to relax in the sun.The WiFi was a problem and we had to call the owner to come and he then connected us to next doors WiFi. Which is needed for the TV to work.It was a shame but the cottage wasn’t ready for us when we arrived. The cleaners had not been booked for our booking.By the time they came and cleaned and changed the bedding and the WiFi was sorted it was 6.00 pm before we could get in and sort ourselves out which seemed as if the day was over and we were paying for a day that was non existent. The owner apologised but didn’t offer any compensation which would have been appropriate. The rest of the week we thoroughly enjoyed as we were blessed with fantastic weather and we’re on Studland beach each day.

Dear Margaret,
Thank you for your comments. You are quite right to note that the cottage had not been cleaned for your arrival. It was entirely my fault due to an error in scheduling.
As you note I was able to sort the wifi problem with the help of the next door cottage. The wifi router was defective and the source of the problem was BT - who I am chasing!
I do apologise for all this and am pleased that you were able to enjoy the wonderful surroundings to our cottage especially enjoying the garden which is a real treat when the sun is out.
Regards,
John
We've had a very nice holiday in this beautiful old house with outstanding views. Owner John responded quickly to any queries we had and everything was as described in the advertising. Location ideal for coastal walking. Highly recommended.

About the host
Hosted by John Kinder
We bought this property in 1996 as a holiday home for the family. We have let it to friends, and others ever since. In 1991 we moved from West London to live in Langton Matravers - 5 minutes from the cottage.
Why they chose this property
One of our sons lived and worked in Bournemouth and introduced us to the area. There are some wonderful places to visit throughout the Isle of Purbeck - which are often overlooked by holiday makers bound for Devon and Cornwall
What makes this property unique
It is an old cottage built in the 1870's with wonderful views and located in a small settlement of 8 houses. We have modernised it over the years and we lived in it for some time during covid.
