Great Venue and Host
We stayed 9 days with a group of four other couples for my 50th birthday. Wine is excellent, venue superb, and to a person all said it was the most relaxing part of extended trips. The pool was especially looked forward to by all after travelling. Leonardo has created a special enviroment and we look forward to another visit.

Anniversary in Tuscanny
We hosted our children and grandchildren for our 51st anniversary. Leonardo is gracious, responsive, helpful...He made our dinner reservations and arranged drivers for two daily excursions to vineyards for all 8 of us. The property is ideallly located for our needs. Florence was a short train ride away for some of us. We had easy drives to Greve, Sienna, Panzano. The property is as described on the web site.

Beautiful Chianti Villa
I rented the villa for the month of October and found it a perfect in all ways. The villa is beautiful and spacious. At times we had 12 people staying with us and it was never felt crowded. We had five large bedrooms and the double beds are truly king sized, and firm but comfortable. Each bedroom has its own bathroom. The showers are small, but there are two larger showers in the lower level bathroom-laundry. The kitchen is large and we had many nights of cooking wonderful Italian foods. There is a large outdoor and indoor dining spaces that easily accommodated 12. We ate many meals at these tables and played Mexican Train as well. It is a great group game, which I left in the Villa library for new guests and a future trip back. Leonardo was so helpful with arrangements and very kind to us. The grounds man, Manju, was always working so hard and very helpful. The villa is in the most gorgeous setting with vineyard covered valleys surrounded by chestnut forest covered hillsides. The area has lovely winding roads through the Chianti hills. Lucolena in Chianti is a pretty little sleepy village, except during the Chestnut Festival in late October when crowds show up to celebrate. You will want a car for this stay, but the Figline-Valdarno train station is a 20 minute drive away and easily access Florence by high speed trains and from there so many wonderful day trips. Locally there are wonderful sleepy little villages with the wonderful family owned restaurants and wineries. Lovely ancient Chianti municipalities are within 30 minutes scenic drives with shopping, dining, wining and sightseeing: Radda, Greve, Panzano, etc… Siena is a within an hour drive to the heart of the City. At the villa we had a wonderful dinner for 12 by an amazing chef! It was one of the best meals we had in Italy! We wanted to do it again, but we never had the opportunity to coordinate again. It was a definite highlight! Leonardo helped coordinate the chef dinner, a wine tour for 12 and a lunch in Panzano for 12 with Dario Cecchini. We drank some wonderful wine grown and produced by Leonardo and had the first of his extra-Virgin olive oil, oh so good! We stayed a month and it was way too short. I highly recommend this villa and this area!

Ten friends stayed at the villa for a week. The villa and property were exactly as we had anticipated. Leonardo was exceptional! He responded to our questions and needs in a timely manner and went out of his way to help us resolve a toll road issue we had toward the end of our stay. We highly recommend this property!

Tuscany family vacation
We stayed at Leonardo’s beautiful home in the Chianti region. Our group consisted of 4 siblings and spouses from various areas of the United States. We were only there for three short nights, but loved every minute. The home and the grounds are stunning. We had dinner made by the chef there the first night. We all agreed that it was the best dinner we had during our entire two weeks in Italy! Leonardo was very hospitable and responded very quickly to a few questions we had during our stay. If we ever go back to this region, Villa il Castellaccio is where we will stay.

Great house in a central location
Our entire family enjoyed our 2 weeks stay at Leonardo's property. The location is great, mid way between Greve and Figline. We didn't get to enjoy the pool, was too cold for it in April, but we did took advantage of the big kitchen and the outdoor sitting area for large family dinners. Rooms are spacious and clean and it was great that each room had its own bath. Pictures are accurate and Leonardo was a great host, always available and helpful. All in all a great stay. Highly reommended,

Beautiful
Very nice rustic 200-year-old farmhouse, updated and turned into a wonderful rental. Several smaller rental units on the property as well. The owner, Leonardo, was great, as was his staff. Manju, (assistant manger/grounds keeper) went out of his way to help us. He showed us a plumb tree with ripe plums and encouraged us to pick as many as we wanted. They were delicious. My favorite part was sitting around the outdoor fireplace/grill each evening. Many in our group really enjoyed selections from the house wine collection. The cabinet is stocked with about forty bottles of wine from grapes grown on the property. You just pay for whatever you drink. The prices are €13-22. Also, Leonardo is happy to schedule day-trips for you. Our group of 10 used this service twice and we were quite pleased. The guide he got for us in Florence was one of the best we have ever had on any vacation. Please note, unless you plan for Leonardo to schedule something for you every day, you really need a car. The Hertz car rental office in Figline will deliver your cars to you, but the rental office is not open on weekends. It’s a 15-minute drive into Figline, which has everything you need, large supermarkets and a train station with express trains to Florence every hour. (Don’t take the non-expresss train. It takes a much longer route and tends to run a little late.) Parking at the train station is pretty tough, so you might have to go up and down the rows to catch someone pulling out. We had read the reviews which said there were small grocery stores at the two little towns, Dudda and Lucolena, that are each about a mile or mile and a half from the house. They are very small. Plan on getting your food from Figline. The supermarkets close at 8:00 pm, so plan ahead. There is a very nice restaurant in Dudda. We walked to Dudda one day. It was about a mile one way. It was a very nice walk. The pastries at the little store in Dudda were tasty. The view was fantastic. There is a ruin of a castle at the top of the hill right next to the house. We hiked up to it and looked around. It was very interesting. We will definitely go back and stay longer. All you Americans need to be aware that all the beds in Europe are extra firm. This place is no different. Thanks again to Leonardo and his crew.

Incredible, beautiful villa - We will be back!
What an incredible, beautiful villa! Amazing views out every window, the service was excellent as Leonardo is a spectacular host! Everything was very clean and the listing details accurate. It was the perfect location to get to Florence easily as well as drive around the gorgeous countryside easily. Dinner cooked for us our last night there was amazing. It was truly the best 50th birthday party I could imagine! We'll come for a longer stay next time. Thanks Leonardo!

Villa il Castellaccio is amazing
Villa il Castellaccio is an absolutely delightful place to stay. We have stayed there three times in the last 12 months and intend coming here regularly either just the two of us or with the children and grandchildren. The location is magnificent with beautiful views over vineyards and olive groves. The accommodation is lovely and the pool is just what you need to cool down on one of those hot Tuscan days. There is a lovely bottega in Dudda, just 5 minutes away, which serves gorgeous food and you can buy provisions as well-meats, cheese, bread etc. 20 minutes away is the lovely town of Greve in Chianti-we would recommend Il Terrazzo(prawns coated in hazelnuts a must) and halfway between Greve and Il Castellaccio is Ristorante Borgo Antico-again amazing food and you should try the pear and gorgonzola risotto ( a favourite of Leonardo). Leonardo is so welcoming and helpful- he will sort out anything you need. We think this place is amazing and think any one who visits here will thinks so too.

Beautiful and tranquil setting. Perfect getaway.
We had a fantastic week's break staying in an apartment at Villa il Castellaccio. The owner, Leonardo, was on hand to welcome us despite the fact that our flight was delayed which meant that we didn't arrive until the early hours of the morning. He proved to be a consummate host - attentive and helpful but not intrusive. The Villa is well located for the major towns and cities of the region such as Florence, Siena, Arezzo and Montepulciano but it's sufficiently remote to provide a tranquil break. Indeed, perhaps our most enjoyable time was spent just lazing by the poolside soaking up the sun and breathing in the country air. The apartment was well appointed and very comfortable with all the facilities needed in the kitchen to cook. There was also a communal kitchen room located 50 yards away with two barbecues and a pizza oven complete with patio area. We used this on a couple of evenings to cook some very thick but reasonably priced steaks bought in the local supermarket. In summary we had a fantastic time and would have no reservations in recommending Villa il Castellaccio. We hope to return again soon.

Wonderful Tuscany Experience for our Family
We had an enjoyable stay at the villa for our family of 11 which included 3 grandsons. Leonardo was very helpful as we planned activities for our week’s stay. He suggested a list of things which we used to put together our plan, and then he arranged for a chef for dinner and cooking class, a guide for Accademia and Ufuzzi museum tours in Florence, and drivers for village tours in the area. Our museum guide was terrific; a professor of art history who provided colorful background for the exhibits in the museums. We appreciated Leonardo’s suggestion to park at the train station in Figline and take the short train ride into Florence for our museum visits. We ate most meals outside at the large table in the beautiful patio setting. The family enjoyed preparing several pasta dishes and especially enjoyed the whole experience of making pizza dough, and then making a variety of pizzas which we cooked on the wood burning grill at the villa. The highlight was the cooking class which most of our group participated in, and then we all ate for dinner. The grandsons enjoyed swimming in the pool each afternoon after we returned from our days of sightseeing. We can’t say enough about the home itself, which provided abundant “space” for our family—four couples, one of whom with three young children. We also can’t say enough about Leonardo’s attentiveness and quick response both in the planning and during our stay.

An Authentic Taste of Tuscany
In the 4 years we have been staying in Home Away properties throughout Europe, this property (Castellaccio #1) is without a doubt the most beautiful, authentic and comfortable place I have ever stayed. It is immaculate and very well appointed. Thank you Leonardo for going out of your way to make our stay a memorable one - from providing maps, lists of restaurants (Dudda was a great one) and local markets (Greve on Saturday is not to be missed) to arranging a very reasonably-priced private tour of Accadema in Florence. Thank you also for the fascinating tour of your museum. It was so nice to see the pride you have in carrying on the business and traditions of your family and passing them on to your children. We rented a car in Figline at Hertz (the only rental agency in town). It was very reasonably-priced and we had no problems whatsoever. Lucho even picked us up at the train station and drove us back when we left. We stayed in Villa Castellaccio for 2 weeks and drove to various villages and hamlets daily. This is a fabulous home base to see all of Tuscany. You can park your car in Figline free of charge all day and take the train to Florence very easily. The tickets can be bought right at the coffee shop or train station. We also did day trips to Pisa, San Gimignano, Sienna, Radda and Lucca. There are so many towns that we simply ran out of time as we wanted to spend the odd day lazing at the beautiful pool. I still wake up every morning and long for the views of the vineyards and olive groves - truly stunning!

Fabulous vacation accomodation
Villa Il Castellaccio was one of the very few vacation homes which exceeded our expectations in all respects. The villa is better in real life than in the website photos. Leonardo and his staff epitomized hospitality and professionalism. Our two families (10 peoplein all) stayed for one week and all thoroughly enjoyed it. The villa is extremely large and well appointed. The pool and outdoor area was perfect for relaxing and large outdoor table was ideal for large evening meals. Check in and check out were a breeze and Leonardo took all of any unexpected needs or requests we had. The grounds are very private and quiet at night, yet accessible to many other amenities by short car trip. Several of us also went hiking/running in the surrounding area, which was very scenic. We would definitely recommend this villa for a Tuscany vacation, and intend to return when next we are able to visit this idyllic region.

Stunning and authentic villa
The photos posted really do not give this property justice. It was beautiful and very well situated. We were a group of 2 families, 10 in total and we stayed in the largest of the villas. It was ideal for our group, with plenty of space for everybody. The kitchen facilities were unparalleled in comparison to any other private accommodation that I've stayed in previously. The pool area was a wonderful amenity and provided an excellent way to spend an entire day. The host, Leonardo was very welcoming and helpful. On one occasion, when we locked ourselves out of the villa, his response to our plight was immediate and effective. His staff who maintain the property, were lovely and always present to assist. If I was looking for a villa to stay in the Tuscany region, I would look no further than this property.

The best place to celebrate my birthday!
When we arrived at the villa we were amazed at how perfect it was from the views, the size of the villa, and the charm! Leonardo was so helpful in the months leading up to our arrival and also during our stay. Each bedroom in the villa was nicely appointed and comfortable. The en suite bathrooms were large with really nice showers. We had 11 in our group and not once did we feel cramped. We cooked several meals in the large kitchen while sipping the villa produced wine. Evenings were spent either sitting outside by the pool or around the large dining table. We took day trips to Siena, San Gimignano and also Florence but we all agreed that the best part of our trip was hanging out at the villa. The kids loved the pool and they enjoyed exploring the property. I am already trying to figure out how to go back in 2015. We loved it!
