It was a great place to stay. The location was spectacular and the cottage was extra roomy, spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. Tessa and Stuart were very welcoming and friendly and we highly recommend this place.
Beautiful cabin, we had much needed relaxing stay , Tessa and Stewart made sure every thing in the cabin is high standard, we enjoyed their delicious lunch /dinner menu .
We will love to come back and will highly recommend for friends and family .
This is a superb place for a relaxing break. Great views, wildlife and comfort. Away from the hustle but within a easy drive of food and drink. The meals provided as an extra by the owners were delicious. Would recommend this cottage.

With views to the city we are surrounded by nature and there are many cafes and vineyards a short drive away. The cottage is warm and cosy in winter and a cool mountain retreat away from the summer heat and the hustle of the city.
Hope to see you again when you are next in the Yarra Valley.

Beautiful home away from home
This cottage had everything we needed and more. Loved the personal touches and ability to order food and wine from the property although we never used the service. Beautiful area to walk around and definitely worth staying at the cottage.

Hi Kirsten, really glad you enjoyed your stay.
Many guests come for longer stays as there is much to see or do in the area or just time to enjoy the birds, animals and views and in winter the warm wood fire and spa bath is the choice of many.

Cottage was extremely cosy and very comfortable. Owners were very welcoming and helpful. Loved seeing the lyrebirds wandering around, as well as abundant bird life with the occasional wallaby or three. Such a relaxing stay, will definitely be back to recharge the batteries. Thank you Tessa and Stuart 😊
Lyrebird cottages was set in a lovely tranquil location, Silver Wattle cottage was clean and comfortable. The breakfast provisions (eggs, bacon, bread, cereal, butter, jam, milk, juice) were great and the owners provided excellent information prior to/during our stay. We were fortunate enough to see the Autumn leaves, pick chestnuts from the property and see a few lyrebirds as well. I would definitely recommend Lyrebird cottages for a weekend away!
I had the pleasure of staying for three nights at the property for a midweek creative getaway and it was fabulous staying at the Lyrebird Cottages. The facilities were immaculate and the location was peaceful and it was a joy to listen to the birds. Stewart and Tessa were great hosts and made sure that the experience was exceptional. Thank you and see you soon!

We are lucky to be in a wild and natural part of the beautiful rural Yarra Valley.
Lyrebirds, wallabies and wombats right up to the cottage and below us the vineyards, art galleries, restaurants and shops when you want them.
Really glad you enjoyed the cottage.

Had a great time, beautiful clean and well presented cottage. On our first day there we went for a walk around the property and got to see a Lyrebird in the tree making clacking noises and raising its plumage it then flew down in front of us and then mimicked lots of different birds, it was an amazing experience which we got on video on our phone. Spent the night at the cottage and then went to the Healesville sanctuary the next day and got to see lots of Australian native animals and an amazing dinosaur display. Had dinner at the Bodhi Tree restaurant, there is an actual tree inside the restaurant which the barn like premises is built around. Had some nice pastries from the Beechworth bakery. On our last night at the cottage we had a nice relaxing spa bath and enjoyed a night in the front of the wood burner. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend to others.
Loved it!
The cottage was very lovely, very clean and well presented. Beautiful quiet location situated close to Healesville and Warburton.
It was a perfect ❤️
We had such an amazing time. The cottages are so cosy. Great for a wkend escape up in the hills but still close enough to town. Will definitely go back.
We were very happy to stay away from the civilization, on the top of the mountain where all that matters is that precious time with your beloved one. Not much to say but a wonderful gateaway indeed. We had stunning wild birds come to visit us looking for very close encounters with us which made the place even more memorable. Had the priviledge of seeing the dance and complex song of the lyrabird imitating the songs of countless birds kookaburra included, in the middle of the bush.
Just probably good to point out the panoramic views shown in the pictures are not visible anymore, all covered by trees except a tiny spot where the city is visible.

Really glad you saw the Lyrebird displaying, it is quite a sight. The trees have grown and changed the view to the west from the cottage but you can still see from the city skyline across bayside to Frankston. Our guests last night watched the city New Year fireworks from their balcony.
As the forest changes the view from the cottage to the south has also opened up as the old trees fall. There is now a view right across to the Dandenong ranges from the cottage in that direction.
Glad you both enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you next time you are staying in the Yarra Valley.
Lovely cottage, idyllic setting, great views, cool climate, thoughtful hosts, wildlife, poor access for shopping, what is there not to like about Lyrebird cottages!

That's what we think too! A great place to get away from it all, especially at this time of the year.
My partner and I stayed here for one night and absolutely loved this place. The owners were communicative and friendly and the cottage was clean, cosy and had everything we needed. Would definitely return!

Hope to see you back again - each season has a really different feel up here.
This is a perfect location if you're looking to escape the rat-race and enjoy the wholesome creature comforts of an open fire, and deck with bbq and wondrous view, or simply your very own hillside forest and walk. All amenities are provided and the property is pristeen, light and very spacious.

It is great to be inside next to a wood fire on a cold winters day, really glad you enjoyed it.
Hope to see you back maybe in the summer when we are above the heat of the valley in the cool of the mountain forest with Melbourne as a backdrop in the distance.
The cottage is in the perfect location for quiet and for spotting wildlife. The kitchen is well stocked with basic supplies and our hosts provide meal service and a wine selection. The abode is furnished comfortably and there is a good collection of books and DVDs for the evening. Location is near Healesville Sanctuary, wineries and great bush walks. Altogether a great stay.

A lovely cottage with every amenity you could afl for. The breakfast pack was also delightful.
It was wonderful, even though my partner was a little surprised and frightened when she discovered a moth on her brassiere this morning.

Really glad you enjoyed your stay despite the moth!
Native animals are all around and are a delight to us and our guests. Even when a wombat climbed the stairs and ambled around the cottage deck at 3.00am waking our guests recently, they felt happy to have such a close encounter with nature and a good story to tell their friends!
The wombat scurried away as fast as he could when the guests opened the door.
Hope to see you back at Lyrebird Cottages when you are again in the Yarra Valley.
About the host
Hosted by Stewart & Tessa Lockhart
Having travelled the world as backpackers for a number of years, we finally chose this beautiful mountain top to put down our roots. We love meeting people from different countries and cultures, speaking different languages and getting out there exploring on our bikes or on foot.
Why they chose this property
We have lived at Lyrebird Cottages since 1997 and the cottages have been open since 2003. We moved here from central Melbourne to live surrounded by nature but we are only just over an hour to the centre of Melbourne. The cottages are architect designed to use solar passive design and be light filled. They are spacious and cosy for longer stays as well as short mid-week and weekend getaways from the city.
What makes this property unique
Lyrebird Cottages is about 1 hour 15 minutes from Hoddle street in Melbourne CBD, a short drive and complete change from urban life. Beautiful mountain top views, lyrebirds and wombats wander the garden and around the cottages. Only the sound of birds and at night the song of frogs in the garden. There is seven acres of natural forest on the property which a path winds through. The cottages are clean and modern with every comfort. Spacious bathroom, bedroom and living areas and a full size kitchen. They are heated by wood fire and electric heating and each cottage has a large spa in the bathroom. A large private balcony has seating and a barbeque and overlooks the garden. The cottages are about 20 metres apart and are completely private. Wireless internet is provided. At Lyrebird Cottages you are surrounded by nature. Vineyards, cafes , shops and Healesville Sanctuary are 10 to 15 minutes away when you want to explore the valley. A perfect destination for a weekend break or a longer stay with our discounted rates for longer stays.
