Come and experience life down on a working Angus Cattle farm. A remote ,peaceful getaway only 1 hour from Melbourne. The secluded renovated retro farmhouse overlooks the rural views of the Metcalfe Hills. Wander down to the creek, watch the birds and kangaroos on this 50 acre cattle property.This is a bird watchers paradise. 15 minute drive to the local towns of Kyneton, Castlemaine, Malmsbury, Redesdale and only 30 mins to Bendigo. Close to the Harcourt-Castlemaine-Maldon 18km bike trail. The entire 3 bedroom house is yours for your stay. Accommodates up to 6 people - children welcome. Children under 5 free. A great holiday starting point to discover Central Victoria for families. 3 bedrooms -1 Queen with electric blanket, 1 double and 2 single beds. High chair available. A country-style kitchen with stove, fridge, cooking utensils and a gas heater. Breakfast ingredients are supplied for 2 days. Tea/coffee facilities are available. Smart TV in the lounge room with a wood combustion fire, and a gas BBQ is available on the veranda along with an outdoor setting. Linen and towels are provided. The house is fully solar-powered and connected to satellite NBN with wifi available. Pets welcome at no cost. Please note: fans available but no airconditioning. Swimming at local Cascades is close by.Maximum stay 5 nights. Base price is for 2 adults, extra people $50 per person. Contactless check-in and check-out.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Great location and very peaceful setting well away from roads and looking onto rolling hills. House brought back childhood memories of farm living. Loved the big verandah and a decent sized fenced yard for my dog was a bonus. Lovely walks from straight out the door.

Great time had by All!

We love coming here. We normally do 2 trips a year. Our dog seems to enjoy the farm - looking at the cattle and this time we saw kangaroos. Merci loves running around freely. It's a peaceful time for us. We find the place accommodating. It is clean and the amenities are more than adequate. We particularly love the log fire. We will be back next year.

Property with a lovely country view

This property has a lovely view from the house and wrap around verandah. It is pet friendly and our two little dogs loved running around the yard and walking on lead around the farm. The wood burning stove and gas heater warmed the kitchen and living room really well. Being city people we did miss having internet connection but it was relaxing.

Metcalfe is a truly beautiful place. 1.5hrs from Melbourne, beautiful rolling hills and incredibly relaxing. We took our 2 labradors who were well appointed to. The dog water bowl, treats and bags were a really nice touch. We stayed on a day that was 38’c. Although there isn’t AC there was plenty of fans & fly screens on all windows to let the cool breeze through. We didn’t struggle at all with the heat. Plenty of privacy and room to explore. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

peace quiet private and wildlife

I really enjoyed my stay here in this beautiful old farm home. My dogs and I loved the location and seeing/hearing the birdlife, and wildlife about was wonderful. The house for one and two dogs was a tad large..but we made it work. Wonderful location for friends or family. Off grid and a great place to catch my breath. The house is old, the wood fire and gas heater kept us toasty as the temperature plummeted at night. Bed was so comfortable. Great breakfast supplies (my only contribution is I would personally prefer peanut butter to jam but that is a personal preference). Thank You so much for the gift of chocolate! very unexpected and appreciated. Eggs bacon bread, tea, plunger coffee, or instant. Plus a basket of treats on offer to purchase (being out of town this was a wonderful addition I did not take up but I was very tempted) For being off grid the water pressure of the shower was great, and hot. Loved staying here and my dogs enjoyed it too. So lovely to be made to feel so welcome all of us, and Treacle and Busby say thank You so much for their Dog treats. so kind.

Good value at the price

Spacious, light and airy. 4yo Grandson loved the room to run around in, inside and out. Eggs, bacon, bread, butter and Jams provided were all we needed for our daily breakfasts. Well, actually, would have been even better if there was some salt in the shaker. Coffee maker was supplied but a little surprised that the coffee supplied was just instant - so if you needed something richer, BYO Coffee. We drove up on a hot (mid-40s) day, but the cool change came in with a rush late afternoon and opening the south-facing kitchen windows cooled the house down rapidly.. Not sure how the house will cope with the other end of the spectrum with one space-heater in the entry-hall; there is a fireplace in the living room. NOTE: the property is off-the-grid; they key notable here is there is no microwave to heat things up quickly; nor is there an electric kettle or phone. The beds were VERY comfortable. Overall, so was the house in general. Linen and towels provided were very good. Great collection of indoor games - our 4yo g'son loved the "Kids Scrabble". Thankyou. TIPS for the property owner: the generic description on the HomeAway Page is misleading - e.g. it says WiFi (there is none); the App also says "Ring on arrival for entry PIN and WiFi PIN" - this is not the case - we discovered by trial and error that the house had been left open for us, a bit disconcerting when we expected having to ring up for entry access. All these are just minor gripes and intended to assist the property owner to improve the service/presentation. Overall a very good holiday house at a great price.

Fantastic Country Getaway

Amazing location, great old house, great hosts - we will defiantly be back. Lovely to see the Kangaroos in the late afternoon as we walked around the farm. Make sure you visit the Cascades on the Coliban River, just 5 minutes away - amazing rock formations.

Farm house in quiet Metcalfe Victoria

We had 2 days here with our Goldie, Lucy. Even though it was very hot the first day we still enjoyed the huge deck which looks over the valley with gorgeous Angus Cattle, lots of lovely birds, even kangaroos & rabbits. Even had a visit from a snake on the roof. No problems. A lovely breakfast was supplied. If you want a relaxing time away this is it. Not far from Kyneton & Castlemaine. A must for relaxation.

So Relaxing

A great property, fully fenced for our greyhound to run around in off lead (he got to pretend to play sheepdog too). Great views of the surrounding farmland. An up close and personal encounter with the cows was a bonus! Very friendly owners. Beautiful and relaxing views from the balcony early morning and at sunset. Highly recommend!

Hi. I am the property manager and live in another house on the property. Formally a school principal I then had a tree change and moved here from Melbourne after my father died to manage his farm. As my parents no longer used the old farmhouse, we decided to renovate and offer a Bed and Breakfast for travellers and those who want to "get away from it all" for a few days on a working country farm.

Why they chose this property

This property is a family property bought by my parents in 1989. They improved the property and added a lot of the infrastructure. My husband and I refurbished the old farmhouse, built our house and now manage the property with the BnB and the cattle.

What makes this property unique

Secluded and yet close to major centres such as Castlemaine and Kyneton and only 30 minutes from Bendigo. An easy 1 hour drive from Melbourne. Close to the Castlemaine - Maldon bike trail and local wineries at Coliban Valley and Sutton Grange. A beautiful rural setting surrounded by 500 year old gum trees and overlooking the lovely Metcalfe Valley.
