Exceptional experience
Best accommodation we have ever stayed in. The cottage was handcrafted by a craftsman. The decor is themed after Beaupre, the early French explorer (hydrographer), supported with a good number of antiques, collectables and hand knotted oriental rugs. The fit-out is top quality and consumables include everything imaginable from full scale sewing kits to snake bite kits. Wonderful, local breakfast supplies with fresh flowers and herbs throughout, complete the cottage. And don't get me going on how great the outside area is, complete with its own herb garden and extensive views over and access to the local waterways. Chris is a fantastic host and a special thank you to our local guide, Beau. If we ever need to lay-up for 3 months or so, it would be at Beaupre Cottage.

About the host

Christine, my partner, is a medical epidemiologist who has enjoyed a long career rebuilding international health systems in post-conflict and post-disaster countries. I am an exploration geologist, originally from Devon in the UK but I've been based in Australia for over 30 years. My roles have taken me all over the world to some stunning and some rather more obscure places where few ever get the opportunity to visit. Then there is Kate the 13yo, who still seems to think she is an Afghan American having spent most of her life living abroad but she is loving being more stable in a good school in Hobart and is finally beginning to lose that American twang!

Why they chose this property

We found Beaupre whilst living and working in Eastern Europe in our last roles. We had thought of purchasing a lovely French Chateau to ease into a more peaceful mid-life but with the changes afoot in Britain we decided returning back to Australia was far more sensible. We drew up a wishlist... acreage with enough space to establish small sustainable business ventures, historic property, close to or rather on the water (our boat in our own bay), a rural setting but close enough to a city so Kate could go to school and we could still fly-out as needed for consultancy jobs, stunning views, somewhere to grown one's own produce, a good climatic environment... the list went on! We scoured the entirety of Australia on realestate.com.au and Beaupre ticked every box. The hardest bit was convincing the real-estate agent that we were genuine and they were not just receiving spam emails.

What makes this property unique

Having travelled so much and having stayed in many different styles of accommodation over the last few decades we want to to provide you with an experience that combines the best of what we have experienced from around the world. Yes... the views are absolutely stunning; the property offers an assortment of wonders from kayaking in the bay; harvesting oysters; walking and cycling through pristine coastal tracks and forest; indulging in an abundance of fine local gourmet produce; observing unique wildlife; soaking up the peace and tranquility in luxurious surrounds; ... but it is more than that, it is the absolute attention to detail and personalised experience that sets Beaupre Cottage apart and provides its guests with an experience you will struggle to find elsewhere, anywhere!
