Staying in the Stockholm hotel, you can almost imagine the hustle and bustle of the hotel in the early 1900s when the hotel was first built, except with modern bathroom and kitchen amenities. We enjoyed our time there. Rebecca was very attentive and had great suggestions on things to do. The village of Stockholm is wonderful with very friendly shop owners and bikes that can be used free of charge to tour around the village. The hotel was clean. It had nice gardens and a fire pit that we made use of it make s’mores. If you like unique and historical sites, you will like staying in the Stockholm Hotel!

Thanks, Louann (and sister Carol) for choosing our site.
It is so fun driving by and seeing 10+ cars in the rear and lots of folks sitting in the yard enjoying the gardens and fire pit!
We are honored to have been part of your family celebration!
Please come again and thanks for how clean and nice you left the property.
We are still wrestling with Century LINK for internet. We have no other option for internet at this time in the valley. So thanks for understanding. Colleen on the village board is working toward better broadband in the area. We do not even get cable or dish out here because of the hills around us! But the area makes up for not TV---the RIVER is amazing!
Again, thanks for staying with us! You are always welcome!

property owner absolutely tops!! Loved her. Property clean, but a bit wonky.
Rebecca and the town's people are the kindest and friendliest you'd ever care to meet. So it is hard to admit that the property is less then expected. The floors are slanted, one nice shower, and little oddities. It is charming and quarky all at the same time. If you're okay with that then go for it. I'm glad we did.

Thanks, Shelley and her family for choosing us in little Stockholm WI
This building was created by a German immigrant who came up the river in 1850's as a young man from St Louis. He must have fallen in love with the area or Elizabeth from Pepin WI. He eventually settled on the hotel site with his new wife in the early 1860's and soon was making BRICKS. He built the first half of the hotel where the dining room is, we think, in the mid 1860's. His name is Christian Godfrey BRUCHMAN, which in German seems to refer to a brick maker.
His dream was to help push the TRAINS up through Wisconsin.
He then Built the second part of the building and connected them in the mid 1870's when he was in his 60's.
They had 9 children and none of them were lost in child hood, so there is much happiness in the building!
Elizabeth had a restaurant all her adult life in the dining room of the hotel, family style.
AND the trains did finally arrive in 1883. Christian passed in 1889. BUT . . .
Another dream of his was to have a hotel for the travelers that were now getting off the train practically at his door step, and which divided his house from the lake. Since he had 6 bedrooms upstairs that he created by uniting these two structures, he felt it would fit perfectly. Except the union was uneven and two foundations sagged at different levels.
Yes, the floors slant and there are humorous shapes to the doors which are original to the building. It is old!
We have worked on the NORTH side & lifted the structure 3 in. Unfortunately it is not the hilton, it is a restored and quaint building that housed the dreams of a man & woman so long ago!
We gently maintain it and accept its antiquity with joy.
Now for the rest of the story. His son, Fredrick opened the hotel from 1914-1916, just 100 years ago! All dreams had come true!
The entire West coast of Wisconsin is amazingly picturesque w/ the river flowing wide at Pepin which becomes Lake Pepin for some of the most beautiful days in Mark Twain's life and ours! Join us!
Oh, and Shelley and her family accepted the "Trivia village hunt" I put out to them . . . "Find the gravestone of the founding father of the village" . . .and they did! Ask them what the prize was! (hint . . . there is a cow on the label and Wisconsin loves it ?)
Again, we are honored with every guest that arrives and strive to make them feel welcome!
The little hotel winked at me for years & I finally bought her and made her SHINE again!
Love, Rebecca

Family Vacation
We are a 3-generation family getting together from different states. This property is very old and rustic and seems to be furnished with second-(or third) hand furniture. Surfaces were clean (floors, counters, tabletops) as were the two bathrooms. Corners, furnace ducts, and windows - not so clean. Kitchen had most of what we needed, including a dishwasher. When we stayed in July 2022, the building was having some reconstruction going on, so there were building supplies on site and no laundry facilities. We had to tidy the outdoor living spaces (porch and patio) but there was a broom. We used all the spaces! No A/C in the main floor living spaces, but the heat wave broke so we were ok. The building is on the main route through town and the really busy railroad is within 100 feet! We adjusted, but it was noisy. We were able to walk down to the Park and enjoyed the shady playground. We did not swim at the beach, but it is there! Our family always has a good time together and we really enjoyed the town of Stockholm. We would consider visiting again.
We stayed here as 7 women who travel together once each year to reconnect. There are 6 bedrooms and enough beds for the 7 of us. Full kitchen and large gathering areas inside and out. We did not mind the trains that others noted. This is like a stay at a family home. The beds are comfortable and two full baths. Full kitchen. Close to downtown shopping and Lake Pepin. The owners have great communication
Quiet and private location in a nice small-town village. Property has everything you need and hosts are easy to contact with questions or recommendations for things to do around the area.

not sure what you want here
We had 10 girls stay at this place. I like the fact it was old . and rustic. It has a big yard so we could play yard games and have a bonfires
We didn't like the trains that came by quite often even all night
A different experience than many other airBNB or VRBO stays I have had.
The good: Great location in Stockholm. Caring owners. Has a distinct “Grandma’s Midwest Home” feel to it that is endearing to some (like me)!
The bad: Locks don’t work. Even though they say they never lock their doors and I’m sure they feel safe this MUST be fixed! Not acceptable for a rental. Check with them before renting if this is fixed. Only 1 bath upstairs for 4 upstairs bedrooms. 1 down for the downstairs one. Only 1 ac for the lower level- needs time to cool it all off.
Overall: This is an interesting property. Lots of character. More of a stay at Grandma’s than the Hilton. If you know what you are getting into it can be a fun retreat. If you are looking for the sanitized, corporate hotel feel with common amenities this may not be for you.
Stockholm was great central location from which to explore and we really enjoyed having the large property with lots of bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen, games, books, toys, etc.
Our family had a place that had enough beds and was in an interesting location. The history of the village is interesting. It takes a commitment from the business people to keep the visitors coming.
I recently stayed at the historic hotel with my family and close friends. There were eight adults and eight kids between the ages of 12 and 2. It was absolutely the best time. The village of Stockholm is adorable: excellent food at the Bistro and Pie Shop, cute art stores, a lovely playground by the lake and the joy of watching trains fly by, a hike up Maiden Head Bluff, swimming just down the road in Pepin... We were there a total of two nights and packed in so much fun and relaxation it felt like a much longer vacation and much farther away than the 90 minutes from the Twin Cities. The hotel had everything we needed, Rebecca was a gracious and generous host: available when needed but also giving us space to connect and enjoy. I recommend the hotel and Stockholm to all.

Marielle and friends,
We so appreciate your kind recommendation! You folks were many but you left the hotel/guest house in wonderful shape!!! wow! I was surprised at how neat and clean it was!
We love families to come and enjoy the area. There is so much to do and see and we wish for people to "unplug" and that is why we do not have TV but we do have a PIANO . . . a fire pit . . . a huge shaded yard by the village.
It was a pleasure to hear from the other shopkeepers about your visits!
Free blue bikes on every corner for guests and all to enjoy and then just put back . . . how great is that!
Next time I will give you the treasure hunt through the village . . .take the challenge!
Please come back to visit us again! send your friends and family . . .they will be welcomed! WINTER is an amazing time too . . . I call the Mighty Mississippi the ice freeway . . .a totally different way to experience the river and lake!
Thanks for choosing us!
Sincerely,
Rebecca and Chris
This is a unique, quirky, historic property. I would have loved a historical summary (more detailed than the Stockholm brochure, more succinct than the newspaper history account). Lots of space for our 3-generation group of 10 to enjoy together. Very clean. Helpful bedroom & bath on main level. Very steep stairs to 2nd floor. Close to railroad tracks but you soon get used to those sounds. Stockholm is a lovely and friendly village with GREAT food and shops. Groceries are 6 miles south in Pepin. VERY helpful owner.

Beautiful Area
We enjoyed our stay in Stockholm. It is such a beautiful area to stay during my Son’s wedding. The Historic Stockholm Hotel was wonderful. Wish we would have had more time to explore the area and enjoy the house more. Maybe make it that again for R&R. Next time. Home owner was amazing and very helpful. Would definitely recommend it to anyone. Thank you!!

I loved coming to check on your family and found a young lady playing the piano!!!!
We purposely do not have TV and the area does not have cable anyway, but, we wish for families to do things together instead of watching television!
Please consider us again in the future and we will do free concierge service and share the secrets to the area!
We have a treasure hunt that families can enjoy including "find the grave site of Eric Peterson, the village founder . . . it is not in the cemetery . . ."
The West coast of Wisconsin is amazing!

Great house for a large group!
We had a wedding in Pepin and the location of the house was perfect. We had 18 of us staying at the house. Everyone had somewhere to sleep and there was great parking at the house. Rebecca was so responsive and offered up great advice about Stockholm. I didn’t realize that the house was right downtown which was perfect for walking distances to cafes and shops!

The family gathering place
Our family loves to spend a long summer weekend away with all of us together in one place. This old "hotel" fit our needs perfectly. Grandpa & Grandma stayed downstairs while our three married children with 8 grandchildren stayed upstairs. The cousins loved the suite with the bunkbeds and double bed just for them. The stairway was quite steep and thankfully the upstairs was well airconditioned. The front of the hotel faced the street while the green grass filled backyard was the place to sit by an evening fire or to enjoy family meals together. We all fit around the picnic tables. We also used this place to have family pictures taken.
It was a peaceful place except when the trains rumbled through town as they did quite frequently.
Rebecca was available to answer questions for us both before our trip and during our stay.

Great Place for Team Building
We brought our girls track team and had a wonderful time playing games and cooking / eating together. The girls had the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom as their "dormitory" and the coaches had the downstairs bedroom and bathroom. It worked perfectly. Great hills to run and park to workout in. We took the hike to Maiden Rock. Beautiful view of the water and many eagles We needed butter and the pie shop owner was more than happy to sell us some from his stock and Colleen, the owner/baker at Bogus Creek Café and Bakery, was so accommodating to make sandwiches and a bag lunch for our team. Such kind and helpful people. We truly felt like they were glad we were here! Great place to stay!

Charming historical hotel for family reunion.
The mid 1800's Stockholm Historical Hotel was a perfect spot for a family reunion of 10. Rebecca greeted us at the door with excitement ready to share what the hotel, the town of Stockholm and surrounding area has to offer. Each couple had their own room with shared two bathrooms with no problems. The family enjoyed the large dining room to gather for meals and the fully equipped kitchen to make shared meals. The porch was a nice feature to relax and face the Lake Pepin and the Great River Road. The fire pit and the patio was also enjoyed and a great place for family fun and laughter in the evening. The family toured Stockholm on foot and bicycles. They enjoyed it's cute little shops. Each offering their own artistic specialties from homemade pie, Amish furniture, pottery, Scandinavian gifts, and many local craftspeople items. Rebecca also picked the perfect family for a trivia challenge to find Erik Peterson, the founding father of Stockholm, gravestone for a prize. A competitive and game enthusiastic family that we are read historical facts and talked to the natives to win this challenge and won with great pride. We also enjoyed the surrounding area, hiking Maiden Rock Bluff, complimentary wine/beer tasting at Maiden Rock Vineyard, boardwalk in Pepin, Creamery at Nelson, lift bridge in Alma, paddle boat ride on Lake Pepin offered in Lake City, and craft beer tasting in Wabasha. Rebecca is a fun energetic hostess who provided great customer service and was also available to take a family picture on the historical porch of the hotel for great memories to share and last a life time. We would recommend any vacationer to stay at the Historical Stockholm Hotel.

Historic, Clean and Charming....
A group of 11 motorcycle riders booked the Stockholm Hotel for two nights in July. The property is historic and charming. It's clean and very convenient for touring around the Lake Pepin area. We ate in both nights using the outdoor grill(s) and the kitchen.
Stockholm is a picturesque small town on the eastern shores of Lake Pepin. The building itself sits on the Great River Road and is within a quick drive to the other small cities along the Road.
Rebecca is a local entrepreneur and owns the local bar/grill. She’s very proud of her hotel, as well as the town. She’s fun….
A note about motorcycling (and I suppose for the peddlers too), there are great rides within minutes of Stockholm. Two roads exit immediately out of the City and climb the bluff in long winding curves. Frankly, the whole area does not disappoint for the cyclist crowd. Enjoy…
