Three-Bedroom Apartment in Unique Treehouse with Spectacular Views & Gardens

Perched on a scenic hillside with expansive views, Sherwood Lodge provides quirky accommodation perfect for nature-lovers and adventurers.
Like a treehouse nestled into the bush (but only 5km from the city centre), the Lodge offers native birdsong, 1000sqm of native & semi-tropical hillside gardens, a running stream and stunning views across Christchurch all the way to the Alps.

It’s the opposite of a characterless motel stay & not for the faint of heart: a unique treehouse high above the city

Sherwood Lodge is a unique hillside property with challenging access and potential trip hazards. As such, we can only accommodate physically fit guests over the age of 21. We do have an alternative property which is suitable for all ages (Mariners Lookout) in Cass Bay.

Guest accommodation is the entire lower floor of the house with guest bathroom, kitchen & tv room; hosts live upstairs in a separate apartment. Accommodation includes 3 Queen bedrooms. Guests have access to the lower floor decks and outdoor seating areas as well as all of the gardens – these include pergolas, seating and lots of sunny outdoor spaces, private walkways through the trees and bridges across the stream. Guests are welcome to wander through the gardens any time but please note that this is a hillside property with high paths, steep staircases, open waterways and potential slip hazards: we recommend sturdy shoes!

The guest suite is the entire lower floor of the house. It is a completely self-contained apartment with its own private entrances and there are no spaces shared with hosts (other than the gardens where you may see us occasionally.

We loved the sense of being so far away from our usual spaces. Loved the bath, the bedrooms were great, everything on hand that we needed. Lovely weekend with friends.

Kia ora, we are a Kiwi couple but Chris is originally from the UK. After travelling the world full-time for two years, we returned home to NZ and we have been enjoying repaying the favours and inviting guests into our home in Cashmere since June 2020. It was perfect timing too before the world changed!

We enjoyed hosting guests so much that we started a second Airbnb property and since February 2022 have been hosting guests in Cass Bay too. We have been lucky enough to welcome guests from all around the world!

We are in our early 40's but young at heart and very well-traveled. We're always keen to hear about other people's experiences and travel stories.

We are very clean and tidy non-smokers who love living in a unique part of the country, surrounded by nature. We are passionate about the environment and try our best to be eco friendly, generating a large percentage of our energy through solar power. Both of our properties are in quiet spots, so we hope you enjoy the peace like we do.

Sherwood Lodge is a truly unique spot and we love sharing this little part of the world with guests. An architecturally-designed treehouse-style property perched on a Cashmere hillside above the city, Sherwood is surrounded by 1,000sqm of landscaped gardens including native trees, subtropical plants and our own stream.
We fell in love with this house when we first moved to Christchurch and could not imagine a better place to be!
This is our home and we live upstairs permanently, hosting guests in the downstairs suite.
