The Neighborhood:
There’s off-street parking at the property, making it simple if you’re arriving with a car. You’re also well connected by public transport, the nearest bus stop on Hekerua Road is about a five-minute walk away, linking you directly to Oneroa Village, Palm Beach, and the Matiatia ferry terminal.
Visiting the vineyards couldn’t be easier. Leave the car at home and jump on the bus, no need to worry about driving afterwards, and you can enjoy wine tastings and local craft beverages along the way. The route takes you past some of Waiheke’s most popular stops, including Tantalus Estate, Stonyridge, Casita Miro, and Wild on Waiheke.
For a casual stop, head to The Heke Kitchen, Brewery & Distillery, a favourite local spot for wood-fired food, craft beer, and live music on sunny afternoons.
Taxis and rideshares are available across the island but can be expensive, especially in the evenings or during busy weekends, so public transport or e-bikes are often the most relaxed way to get around
Getting Around:
Hekerua Bay Retreat sits in a peaceful pocket between Palm Beach and Oneroa, surrounded by native bush and the sound of the sea below. From the deck, you can look straight out across the bay, a calm, sheltered stretch of coastline that feels private yet close to everything.
It’s about a ten-minute walk to Palm Beach, where you can swim, paddleboard, or stop for coffee or breakfast at the Palm Beach Store. For a relaxed lunch or dinner, Arcadia Waiheke is just up the hill, known for its friendly service, great coffee, and hearty island food served on a sunny deck.
If you’re heading further, Oneroa Village is five minutes by car, home to cafés, small shops, and easy dinner options. Try Obee's Waiheke for brunch with an amazing ocean views, Fenice for Italian, or The Oyster Inn, the well-known restaurant by Josh Emett.
You’re also within easy reach of the island’s most loved vineyards, Mudbrick, Cable Bay, Tantalus Estate, and Stonyridge each perfect for long, unhurried lunches among the vines.
By evening, the bay quiets, the air cools, and the island settles into that familiar slow rhythm that makes Waiheke feel worlds away.
