Spectacular views and a tribute to Maurice Sendak...Max's Room & the Wild Rumpas
About Beth Damon
I am an architect, artist, educator, and lover of this wonderful historic home. I have raised my 4 children here, and now that they are grown, I am able to share my home with you. When I am not working on the house, I am painting, gardening, or adventuring outdoors. I love sharing my unique and fun spots with guests who visit. I hope you'll come and stay here, and please check out the other two apartments at the front of the house, which can both be rented together for larger groups at VRBO #614274 and #454402.
Beth Damon purchased this Apartment in 1997
Why Beth Damon chose Montpelier
Our home was part of the Sloan Hospital, a Civil War Infirmary. In the early 1870's it was rolled down the street to this location, and a series of additions were added on through the years, the last one I designed and helped build. The house is located very close to Vermont College of Fine Arts and is a short walk to downtown. There is always a lot going on in Montpelier, so check the city website. Visit and enjoy restaurants, shops, live music, and festivals. Montpelier's central location makes it ideal for touring the area and seeing famous resorts and sites.
What makes this Apartment unique
Our home is a wonderful blend of historic charm and fully updated modern comforts. The studio apartment is newly built, and has a great deal of privacy, tucked away in the back yard, with a truly spectacular view of downtown and Camel's Hump beyond. Once here, you might now want to leave :-) Our back yard is a fun place to relax in the summer months, when you are not out and about. I have had fun furnishing the apartment in memory of one of my favorite children's book writers, Maurice Sendak. The bathroom features The Wild Rumpus, and the apartment I have designed to be Max's Room...where the ..."forest grew, and grew until the room became the world all around." I am improving it all the time, so the pictures may not reflect how it might have changed by the time you arrive...hope you'll check it out!

Such a beautiful town and location, Beth is a lovely host. The fall colours were just glorious.
Lovely spot in a lovely area!
This was a great spot! It was great to meet Beth, who is so kind and hospitable. She left us great restaurant recommendations. The property is lovely. Walking distance from downtown Montpelier with a beautiful view of the mountains. Totally recommend!
Quite enjoyable! Very nice owner.
Clean, neat, cozy place.
A bit pricey for the overall space, but a nice overall stay.
Perfect for 1-3 people!
This place was amazing! It is spotless and modern, and was perfect for an overnight for me and my partner before checking in to VCFA the next day. And it has a view you won't believe! Quick walk into town (6 mins?) where there was plenty to do and eat and look at. Thanks, Beth!
Summer Stay in Tiny Paradise
I stayed for about 10 days in June/July of 2019 in the small apartment above the garage. It was just me for most of the time, but my partner joined me for a few days. It was just the perfect size, and could accommodate more (maybe 3, or two couples who are good friends, or a small family) since there is an additional small comfy bedroom with a door separating the studio-like space. There is a full kitchen, equipped with much of what you need to cook and serve meals. Since it was summer, Beth provided a portable air conditioner that kept the space lovely and cool. The big picture window near the kitchen welcomes the day with a pleasant view. There is a couch/bed in the main studio space and a comfy chair and barstools at the counter space. I was very comfortable and felt at home in the space. If you're considering staying in the apartment, I would say GO FOR IT. Beth is delightful, Montpelier is lovely, and the space is quiet and comfortable.
Very cozy and comfortable.
The property is comfortable and in a great location. If there had been 4 of us it would be a little tight but we just had 2. Beth has thought of everything you might need.
