About this property

Zen Mountain Cabin: Forest-Bathing & Private Waterfall in Wine Country

ABOUT OUR SPACE
Experience the art of "Shinrin-Yoku" (Forest Bathing) at our unique mountain refuge. Nestled at the base of Glassy Mountain and backing up to 10,000 acres of Chattahoochee National Forest, this 700 sq. ft. converted farmhouse is the ultimate zen sanctuary. From a private waterfall to a yoga deck perched 40 feet in the canopy, nature isn't just a view here—it’s the main attraction.

✨ THE ZEN HIGHLIGHTS:
🌊 Private Waterfall: A seasonal 5-foot plunge waterfall just steps from the back door. It runs most of the winter, spring, and after rainfall.
💤 Timber-Framed Sleeping Porch: "Glamping" at its finest with a tin roof. Futon mattress, and mosquito netting.
🚿 Forest Shower: An invigorating, cold-water outdoor shower tucked in the trees.
🍷 Wine Country: A stone’s throw from Stonewall Creek Vineyard & Tiger Mountain Wineries.
💰 Transparent Pricing: The price you see is the price you pay. No hidden cleaning or service fees.

THE COTTAGE - Modern Rustic Soul
Our converted 2-room farmhouse blends 70-year-old oiled barnwood with modern comforts. It is small, intimate, and intentionally designed for couples, small families, or solo travelers seeking stillness.

The Farmhouse Kitchen:
Fully equipped for meal prep and featuring a Nespresso machine stocked with Starbucks pods.

The Soaking Tub:
The cottage features a classic cast iron tub and hotel-quality linens (please note: the bathroom was a modern addition to this historic structure!).

The Loft (Our Favorite Room):
A romantic retreat with a platform bed positioned under a skylight for midnight stargazing. Includes a TV/DVD player for cozy evenings.

Sleeping Arrangements: 1 Double Bed (Bedroom), 1 Twin Platform Bed (Loft), and 1 Full-size Futon (Living Room).

THE EXPERIENCE: Forest Bathing & Adventure
As avid kayakers and mountain bikers we envisioned this property as a basecamp for both deep relaxation and epic adventure.

Relax:
Spend a quiet afternoon reading, napping, or just listening to the wind in the trees and birdsong from the sleeping porch. Enjoy the fire pit at the top of the meadow to watch the sunset over Glassy Mountain.

Explore:
10 minutes to White Twister & Stonewall Creek mountain bike trails. 20-30 minutes to world-class whitewater rafting on the Chattooga River, boating on Lake Burton/Lake Rabun, tons of hiking, and elite fly-fishing. Pick wild blackberries and blueberries in the meadow or cross the log bridge over the clearwater creek and forage for chanterelles.

Dine:
15 minutes to historic downtown Clayton for fine dining at Fortify, Stekoa Creek, Rabun Social or live music and beers at Universal Joint.

Guest Notes & Connectivity
Size: The cabin is a cozy 700 sq. ft. While it accommodates 4, it is most comfortable for those who enjoy spending time in our many outdoor spaces: whether on the front porch, the sleeping porch, or in the meadow.

Connectivity: We offer fast WIFI that reaches most of the property, making this an ideal "Work-from-Nature" retreat.

The Woods: You are in the heart of the forest. You will hear crickets, rain on the tin roof, the occasional coyote, and see deer, rabbits, and sometimes foxes . It is remarkably quiet and very dark at night—the stars sparkling like diamonds.

Peaceful, quiet, quaint place in the woods, yet still close to everything. When we weren’t exploring the area we hung out on the porch with a Mountain View. Host was great. Always easy to get.

Cozy getaway

Property was a cute cozy getaway! Had a little trouble with the gas heaters at first, but eventually figured it out. Would be the perfect spot in the fall.

Perfect Retreat

This place has great energy. It's well appointed if you're looking for something simple. Quiet and serene, it is the perfect sanctuary for recharging your soul. Plenty to do nearby, especially if you're into nature. But perfectly suited if you just want to chill and commune. I think this will be my new regular go-to spot. My many thanks to the hosts.

Peaceful weekend getaway

This mountain cabin was adorable! So well-designed and decorated to make it feel cozy and comfortable. There were so many thoughtful touches throughout - the nice toiletries, espresso pods and machine, the tiki torches with plenty of fuel and lighters around the front porch, and the excellent wi-fi. All of these things made the stay extra special. We also loved the outdoor areas - even though we had some rain this weekend. The sound of the creek behind the cabin was very soothing and peaceful and we loved just hanging out on the front porch listening to the creek and enjoying the cool temperatures. The host was very helpful with advice on nearby day trips and restaurants. Overall, the quick trip was wonderful and we hope to be back soon!

Jiri takes great care of his guests and the property is a beautiful, peaceful place. It's not without its quirks, but if you are of the adventurous mindeset, there is no better place to call home while you tour local parks and resturaunts. Our dog Clay was right at home and enjoyed the large yard (although, if your dog is prone to wander... the property isn't fenced)Our stay in late September is the start of prime season. The tempurature is just right for a comfortable time in the house and you can really enjoy the fire pit/grilling outdoors. ***the road to the house is unpaved and narrow, however... there is a genetelman who drives the roads with a Corvette... i assure you, your vehical can make it. !!! Thank you for everything Jiri !!!

Originally from Utah but I've called Georgia home for the past 25 years. We live in Atlanta with four kids under 10 and a dog but we spend every moment we can up here at our mountain sanctuary.

This area is very special to me. I am an avid skier and white water kayaker and when I first moved to Georgia I would come up to this area every weekend to camp and paddle all the amazing rivers in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. One of my favorite places is the Chattooga River, about 30 minutes away in South Carolina. This place is magical and has captured my heart and imagination for years. This is where my family and I spend a lot of our time, particularly in summer, kayaking, swimming, fishing, floating, or just relaxing on the river bank.

Buying and renovating this property was a dream come true. Our little sanctuary secluded in this quiet corner in the mountains. Our kids call it the "Jungle House" because it is surrounded by forest and it is so lush that it feels like being in a jungle during the rainy season. We've added a lot of special touches over time, including the yoga platform and outdoor shower. We love hosting because we feel this spot has a very magical connection to nature and was designed to blur the distinction between nature and civilization, indoors vs outdoors. Spending time here is soothing, invigorating and we love sharing this experience.

We hope you love it here as much as we do!

Why they chose this property

The first thing you notice here is the incredible stillness as you take in the dramatic view of clouds scraping the top of the Glassy Mountain 1200' above. Enjoy a morning espresso on the yoga platform in the trees 40' feet above the creek and then cool off after a hike/bike/paddle in the outdoor shower. Or let the summer breeze lull you into a nap on the sleeping porch sipping local wines. That's my favorite.

We envisioned this property in the spirit of Shinrin-Yoku or "forest bathing" so you will find that nature is the main attraction: from the yoga platform up in the trees, the blueberry bushes, and chanterelles in the forest to the log bridge over the clearwater creek. Right outside the backdoor walk past a unique waterfall that plunges 5 feet between two massive elm trees. Then continue up the side of the mountain into the National Forest for a true Shinrin-Yoku experience.

My favorite part of the property is the timber-framed sleeping porch at the edge of the property. With a tin roof, thick futon mattress, and mosquito netting, it is glamping at its finest. Simply grab some pillows and blanket from the cottage and wile away the afternoon reading, napping, or relaxing. Its also the perfect spot to sleep on summer evenings under the stars.

What makes this property unique

Our cottage is not just a place to stay. It is an experience. The experience of being as close to nature as possible but with all the creature comforts of home.
