About this property
Spectacular new 4 season cottage on pristine Kennisis Lake! Sauna and hot tub!
UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEARS RENTAL THIS YEAR - NOT USUALLY AVAILABLE!
We invite you to enjoy our piece of paradise, with its all day sun, crystal clear waters and breathtaking sunsets. Built new in 2021, 2900 sq. ft., three bedroom plus two offices (in compliance with municipal licensing rules), three bathroom, four season, modern but cozy cottage.
Kennisis Lake is the second largest lake in the Haliburton Highlands. It is bordered by the Haliburton Forest on the north/ease and Algonquin Provincial Park to the north. It is 23 kms long and connected to LIttle Kennisis Lake. Being on the Canadian Shield and spring fed, and with boathouses not allowed, the shore is lush and natural and water is crystal clear and clean.
You will be able to enjoy the spectacular lake view from almost all interior rooms, as well as the screened/glass porch, the large deck off the living room and master, the lake-side deck (we call it the lower deck, part way to the water), our large dock and outside hot tub.
The main floor has a huge, open gourmet kitchen/living/dining space with gas fireplace; three season glass/screen porch with wood fireplace; mudroom; powder room and a lovely master bedroom overlooking the lake with a large ensuite bathroom. The lower level, with its 9 foot ceilings and full walk out, has a large family/games/media room; steam room; two bedrooms, bathroom and laundry room. There are two separate offices with workstations.
For babies and toddlers we have a gate on the stairs and a crib in one of the bedrooms. Additional equipment includes high chair, pack-and-play, toys and a children's trampoline (summer).
Includes high speed Fiber-optic internet.
It is fully winterized and a wonderful place to be any time of year.
In the summer, enjoy the sunrise from our dock, followed by lounging, swimming, walking, hiking and biking. You can canoe or kayak on our gorgeous lake, and even portage into stunning, uninhabited lakes for day or overnight trips. You can rent boats from the local marina, but we have two kayaks and a canoe you can use. In the Haliburton Forest, at the end of our street, in addition to hiking and biking, you can eat at the restaurant, visit the Wolf Centre, and do canopy tours. The marina is a lively place with an outdoor patio offering good food, drinks and music, as well as pickle ball courts! The Marina also offers art classes, camps and lots of special events including occasional weekend concerts!
In winter, enjoy snow shoeing and cross country skiing right from the cottage, either on the lake or in the forest trails behind the cottage. You can also snowmobile from our front door on extensive, groomed OFSC snowmobile trails. A short drive takes you to groomed x-country trails and Sir Sam's ski hill is only about 40 minutes away. The Haliburton Forest also offers dog sledding. We are big into winter campfires by the lake!
In the fall, enjoy our the beautiful fall colors and end the day with a roaring fire in our glassed in porch.
In the spring, we love watching nature bloom!
And of course, our sauna and hot tub are relaxing delights, any season!
Our cottage is just under 3 hours from Toronto. You can get everything you need for your holiday at the West Guilford Store which is 15 minutes away, or in Minden, Gravenhurst or Haliburton. You can also pick up last minute supplies and have an ice-cream cone or cappuccino at the marina!

About the host
Hosted by Patricia Joan Howell
Dugald is a retired engineer, whose work history includes starting and running cruise lines in Antarctica, the Artic and Cuba and being a partner in the home building business. Patty just retired from her work as an Occupational Therapist and Senior Manager of a private rehab firm. Between us, we have 5 adult children with partners and a young grandson. Our cottage is our special place, where family and friends get together to enjoy nature and each other.
We have been on VRBO for a while now, but up until now we typically used our cottage so we only rented it out on the very rare occasion. We are now traveling more and have opened up our calendar.
We have many years experience as home exchanges and have consistent 5/5 star reviews. It makes us happy that others are able to enjoy our beautiful cottage when we cannot be there, and so appreciate hearing from our guests about how much they loved their stay. We look forward to hearing from you!
