About this property
Stunning Villa with Sauna, Swimming Pool and Yoga Space
Finca La Herradura is a magical off-grid (electricity comes from solar panels and water comes from a natural spring) Alpujarran farm in the middle of ‘Driving Over Lemons’ country; a 500-year-old stone walled Alpujarran farmhouse lovingly renovated in a simple and elegant style nestled at the top of the enchanting secluded valley where the river Trevelez and Guadelfeo meet.
The house has four beautiful double bedrooms, two bathrooms (one is a wet room with high-pressure shower. The other has a free-standing bath with views over the valley) a large open plan living space which connects a cosy fireside area with a well-equipped kitchen and is filled with art and trinkets collected or donated by visiting friends.
Immediately outside the house are a patio area with a wood-fired pizza oven, two shaded seating areas, and gardens full of succulents, cactuses and palms. Just beyond that up a small set of stairs is the pool area which features a glorious saltwater swimming pool fed with natural spring water (painted pink with an art deco palm pattern by an artist friend) shaded double pool beds, a table tennis table, a wood burner sauna, and the most amazing views to the valley below. Guests also have access to our yoga platform, a beautiful open-sided wooden structure in the middle of a lavender and sage field.
While the houses and facilities are wonderful, perhaps the best feature of the property, and certainly our favourite, is the incredible land it belongs to. Finca La Herradura is a sprawling horseshoe-shaped farm of ancient terraces full of olive, fig and pomegranate trees which stay lush even in summer because of their proximity to the acequia (the ancient irrigation system built by the Moors) which lead down to wide fields and on to the openness of the river bed and the magic of the ever-changing river.
This level of natural beauty, seclusion and privacy, just a 20-minute drive from Orgiva, the colourful capital of Las Alpujarras is something very special. Although many guests choose to spend their time enjoying the tranquillity of our immediate environment, should you want to venture further afield, we are ideally situated for exploration: We are near to the GR7 walking route which runs from Tarifa all the way to Greece and connects to many other walks. Slightly further afield, the beaches of the Costa Tropical, the cultural riches of Granada, the white villages of the Alpujarras, and the majestic Sierra Nevada mountain range are all within an hours drive.

About the host
Your host

I am an artist and therapist with a passion for nature. I spend most of my time here at Finca La Herradura with my boyfriend Luke, a teacher and musician, and our friends Liam and Paula, pursuing my passions and working together to look after the land and slowly expand its creative possibilities and productivity.
Why they chose this property
I left London in search of a place in Andalucia, looking to reconnect with my childhood which I spent in Seville, and explore life away from the hustle and bustle of the big smoke. Initially, I was looking for a flat in Granada or Seville but I came to view Finca La Herradura on a whim and instantly fell completely in love. I travel a lot, but in all my travels I am yet to find a place that I would rather live. This is a true paradise.
What makes this property unique
For me, this land and the area which surrounds it has a deeply rejuvenating property. There is something both wild and deeply domestic, captured in the ancient hand-built terraces, which although roughly made have stood the test of many hundreds of years. Its a magical place and a magical way of life, and I'm very happy to be able to share it with others.
