About this property

Beacon Lodge, Burnham Market, Norfolk

Beacon Lodge is a charming detached family house tucked away in a peaceful location, on the edge of the ever popular North Norfolk village of Burnham Market, and only a short drive away from some fabulous local beaches.

Beacon Lodge has the ambience of a country house hotel - relaxed, comfortable, easy living - both inside and out. Set in glorious gardens, the house enjoys a superb position within the village. Located on Herrings Lane (often referred to as Millionaire's Row!) you have very easy access to the many amenities of Burnham Market - boutiques, fishmonger, butcher, baker, hardware store, wine shop, galleries, restaurants and pubs - right on the doorstep.

This is the ideal house for a family staycation, offering plenty of room for everyone to spread out, both in the house and garden. The entrance door leads into a rather grand spacious hallway which forms the centre of the house. A right turn takes you into an inviting sitting room with open fire, and sunny conservatory off, giving access to the garden. The adjoining and equally spacious dining room, also with doors to the garden, continues through to the kitchen. There are four bedrooms - one downstairs (twin) and three upstairs (king, twin and single) and two bathrooms upstairs (one is en-suite), plus a cloakroom on the ground floor. The garden is enclosed with walling and fencing - perfect for children and dogs to play safely, while parents relax.

If you can tear yourself away from the house and village, there is so much to see and do without having to travel too far. The Coasthopper bus service stops on the village green throughout the year on a regular basis, so you can even leave your car behind. Visit beautiful beaches, Palladian country houses, witness stunning birdlife on the marshes (skeins of pink footed geese with their haunting call will pass over the house October-February), all the other pretty villages along the coast and enjoy some deliciously fresh local produce.

The house could be cleaner

The house was bigger enough for the six of us, nicely placed to explore beaches. The garden was lovely and big for the children, shame that someone had not cleaned up after there dog. The mattresses in at least one of the bedrooms were very uncomfortable, there were cobwebs in door ways and peas had been left in a sauce pan. If more care was put into the cleaning of this house it would make such a difference.

Good but ….

A nice spacious house in an excellent location, but the decor and fittings were tired and need replacement. There were a number of defects which, while not terminal, were not up to standard, as follows. The downstairs toilet did not flush properly neither did the one in the en suite bathroom - 3 flushes often required. The shower was very weak - just a trickle really. A number of the curtains did not draw properly with broken drawstrings etc. Only 4 teaspoons in a house for 8 people and no matching set of wine glasses, only one beer glass, and no champagne glasses. While these deficiencies were irritating we still enjoyed our stay and if the above defects were rectified we would recommend this property, but not as it stands.

Spacious property in a great location

Lovely spacious property in a really beautiful location, convenient for local shops and only a short drive from many attractions in North Norfolk. It was a great bonus to have the garden, perfect for families and guests with dogs. The service offered by Norfolk Hideaways was excellent. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to visit Norfolk.

Great place for a break

The house is ideally located for North Norfolk stays - the logs fire was fabulous in the evenings making the house super cosy. We used the book of circular walks, provided at the house, 5 times during our stay. One of the walks starts from the front door and went through the fields to the coast and Burnham Norton, then back via the Hero at Burnham Overy Staithe into Burnham Market. Fabulous house - would certainly stay again

Excellent location, well furnished, plenty of room, but...

The lodge is in a great location, is very well decorated and very well furnished with plenty of room and light inside the house and also in the large enclosed garden. However, it was let down by a number of silly small things that could be easily fixed with a few pounds spent. When paying this amount for a holiday home for a week, you would expect to have toilet roll holders in the bathrooms and a better selection and quality of items in the kitchen, especially as the lodge is for 8 people. We also had trouble with the shower on the first day, as it appeared to only work if the shower head was no higher than 4ft. It did work OK after then. The frying pan (and other items) probably lost their non stick 10 years ago, the kettle was appalling, the plastic around the top was disintegrating. The worst issue was the storage pantry cupboard which had a horrible smell inside of it, and we did not store any food inside, it smelt as if something had died in the cupboard. We purchased some air freshener/odour remover and by the end of the week the smell had reduced, but you could still smell something in the kitchen and the dining room. Overall, if the owners had spend a few pounds on a couple of toilet roll holders and updated the kitchen utilities, and fixed the smell we would have given it 5 stars, but in the condition it was during our stay, we can't!
