About this property

The East Wing at Old Hall Country Breaks

The East Wing is part of the stunning Grade II Listed West Norfolk thatched 16th Century residence, Old Hall. The East Wing is tastefully furnished in a grand style and has lots of special touches that will make you smile. The East Wing has two bedrooms (or three on request), a huge open fireplace with a large log burner is perfect for those cosy nights in and the well-appointed kitchenette has all you need for your stay. The East Wing accommodation provides a luxurious open-plan sitting room and kitchenette, Jack and Jill bathroom with enormous Jacuzzi bath (plenty of space for two), a master bedroom with super-king size bed and a delightful second double bedroom which can be configured as either a twin or a double bedroom. The rooms have either a view of the beautiful front garden or the peaceful vista of the huge back garden and view of the paddock at the bottom of the garden.

There are books in all the rooms if you feel like sitting in the window seat to read, or maybe take your breakfast outside at the table and chairs or the hammocks in the back garden? A TV and DVD player (select your DVDs from our extensive DVD collection) are provided as well as cable TV and Netflix.
Old Hall was built in 1553 (for the curious, at that time Edward VI was King – he was the son of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour and Old Hall was once home to lady-in-waiting to Lady Jane Grey – queen for 9 days). Set in six acres, Old Hall is grade 2 listed and an enchanting Tudor property.

The Old Hall offers two separate and self-contained holiday accommodations: The Coach House and the East Wing both provide separate, self-catering accommodations.

Old Hall is a property of immense character and charm: the thatched roof, a walled garden, lots of pretty corners in the beautiful garden in which to sit, or lie in the hammocks and relax, the stables, the gardens for your children or dog to play in, the quiet and privacy.

Inside, Old Hall is beautifully furnished in a grand style but is also very comfortable. Farrow and Ball paint has been used throughout to ensure a soft finish to the house. The East Wing has a large inglenook fireplace with a generous log burner, and a jacuzzi bath big enough for two. The Coach House is tastefully furnished and overlooks the horses' paddock.

Amenities include indoor and outdoor games, bicycles, home entertainment including cable TV and Netflix.

Our guests can experience a range of additional touches: private dining is available with a professional chef, afternoon tea served either in the garden or the drawing room, deluxe hampers for your stay.

Luxory accommodation in a Tudor Manor set the the countryside

Five star accommodation set in beautiful grounds. The hosts were extremely helpful and it was pleasant to have a log burner for the cold evenings when we ate in. East in options are available brought to the accommodation and we had an excellent Thai. If you like chickens, they have an amazing variety.

Very welcoming hosts, a beautiful setting and a relaxing stay.

We stayed in the East Wing which has quirky rooms in a beautiful setting. Philip & Gil were charming hosts; very easy going and knowledgeable. The animals were an absolute delight to be around. Although we were a tad remote, Gil's suggestion of places to visit was very helpful. Loved that we had nibbles and milk provided on our first day together with tea, coffee etc. Woke the next morning to find a basket of delicious eggs laid by George's harem! The cleanliness & gardens are exceptional.

Wonderful!

The option to choose extras such as room service food options, the therapist and being able to feed the animals/pick eggs from the chickens. The jacuzzi bath and extra touches such as macarons/cakes when we arrived. Gil is very attentive to any requests and made our stay another very special one. We will definitely be returning in the future. Thanks again for everything, I wished we booked an extra night!

We had a fantastic weekend away at this lovely property with so many special little touches.

Gil was incredibly helpful prior to and during our stay, especially when helping us organise a very special birthday for our baby girl. Our rooms were perfect (they thought of everything!) - we were almost tempted to not leave the property at all to explore Norfolk!

perfect

We stayed in the East Wing and from the moment we arrived were made to feel so welcome. The property oozes character and charm, decorated and furnished to such a high standard. There is great attention to detail and the little extras like the fresh flowers, cakes on arrival, a glass of bubbly, decaffeinated drinks were such a wonderful bonus. I would really like to praise the afternoon tea experience. it wasn't just fabulous for us humans but for our large dog too. Thank you

39th Wedding Anniversary

Absolutely blissful. Gil & Phil were the perfect hosts and very knowledgeable of the area. We stayed in the East Wing for 3 nights which was stunning. On arrival we had booked Afternoon Tea with champagne, luckily we hadn’t booked an evening meal at a restaurant as there was so much to eat, the quality, couldn’t have been better. On our last evening we had an in-house Tha meal at the accommodation which was personally cooked by a Thai chef recommended by Gil. The best Thai we’ve eaten in a

Perfection!

We had a wonderful couple of nights at Old Hall, staying in the East Wing. The house and gardens are stunning, with superb facilities and incredible attention to detail. Gil and Phil were consummate hosts: warm, welcoming and always on hand to share local knowledge, or a glass of bubbles! They have created somewhere unique and very special, and it was a privilege to experience it for a weekend.

Absolute tranquil perfection

EVERYTHING! Old Hall Country Breaks is just the most wonderful, luxurious and relaxing place. We arrived to a lovely welcome from Phil. A well appreciated glass of fizz for us adults and an apple juice for my son which was a lovely touch. We were included a lot with the animals which was very much appreciated. Our accommodation was fantastic (the east wing). Faultless is all I can say really.

Excellent in every way and more like staying with kind and generous friends!

There’s a thoughtfulness and generosity in everything the hosts do to make their guests’ experience very special. In addition to the beautiful accommodation (we stayed in the East Wing) the grounds are gorgeous. The chickens in the eggporium are delightful and all the (very fortunate) animals add to the experience. Extra touches such as homemade cakes and fresh milk on our arrival to the complimentary basket of fresh eggs in the morning made us feel very welcome. Just a perfect country break!

Our Thai meal, breakfast hamper, especially our Afternoon Tea was an experience we will remember forever We can’t stop talking about it. My massage was the best ever. The accommodation, the garden, the pets We can not fault anything, and although we were sad saying Goodbye we were also smiling, because we are already looking forward to returning in November

About the host

Hosted by Host

Host profile image
Old Hall is a Tudor manor house, built in 1553 and its character reflects its great age. The walls are thick, the beams are even older than the house (they came from sailing ships) and the place oozes charm and history.

Gil and Philip are very thoughtful hosts who give exceptional time and attention to their home and to meeting the needs of their guests. From sourcing and booking restaurants and trips, planning beach huts, picnics or afternoon tea for guests, or setting up games in the garden. Nothing is too much trouble for your hosts.

We like to ensure that our guests fully participate (if they want to) in the Old Hall experience by giving treats to the donkeys, collecting eggs from the hens, cycling (bikes provided) round the quiet country lanes or lazing in a hammock listening to the donkeys munch away at their pasture.
