Absolutely Peace

What a lovely property. Tucked away off a very quiet lane. Comfy, cosy. Small private garden, woodland to rear and the sound of the waves to the front. Everything you need ( a radio would be nice) . Minutes away either walking down the hill or driving to Porlock Weir. Feeling rejuvinated.

Ferienhaus in toller Lage

Great Stay at Porlock

A really lovely cottage and communication with the owner was enough without being overbearing. The location was good and had easy walks to the local village pub (always important). I think the only thing that could possibly be improved (if possible due to the age of the building) is the shower but completely understand why it may not be possible.

The location is fantastic if you like walking and enjoy a quiet rural retreat. It suited us and our 2dogs perfectly. It is well equipped and comfortable , rather than smart. The WiFi is the best we have experienced in a rural holiday cottage. We enjoyed the stroll down to Porlock Weir and had good meals in the various cafe/pub/ restaurant.

Lovely location, very scenic. We particularly loved all the coastal walks that could done from the doorstep with our dog, one in particular right on the doorstep is the walk through the woods to Culbone Church, well worth the effort takes about an hour each way. we also like birdwatching so visited some of the nature reserves, one in particular we have been to before at Steart, which is near Burnham, a bit difficult to find as sign posting not very good, but well worth the effort. Local pub/restaurant only 10/15 minute walk from cottage, though there were some really nice ones in Porlock town. Recommend a torch if walking to local pub in the evening. Cottage not as clean as it could have been. Everyone very friendly and helpful.

Property has a lack of privacy with no garden or outside space. Living room could do with a side window to make it feel less claustrophobic. The whole property could do with a revamp considering the price we paid (it wasn't value for money ). Luckily the weather was great as we were able to go out every day. Lovely walks with our dogs but they got covered in ticks.

My wife and I found it to be excellent accomodation. My only comment, rather than a complaint, is that given the relatively low level of natural light, there is a need for better artificial light, whether free standing or wall mounted spots. Reading was not as comfortable as we would have liked. I disagree with the previous comment about lack of space and privacy. A - this was clearly noted in the details and B - the owner made it quite clear that his garden and chairs were available for use at any time.

After reading previous reviews ( by which time we had already booked our stay) I was very concerned about the standard of cleanliness However there was a marked improvement on what I was imagining! The kitchen was immaculate with lovely goodies left for us ie: coffee tea biscuits milk butter The bedding was also immaculate as were the towels From the information book I read the owners had been away for four years and standards had dropped, they are now back and the improvement is obvious

We had a good stay. Good location, right on the Southwest Coast Path for walking. Pub and restaurants within a few minutes walk down to the very picturesque Porlock Weir. Minehead is 20 minuters away, with large supermarkets. The house is an old cottage, so be prepared for a bit of draught, a few spiders and a low pressure in the shower. But there is plenty of hot water, a laundry machine, sufficiently equipped kitchen and a parking space right outside the front door. Not suitable if you have allergies (dogs are allowed, upstairs is carpeted).

Excellent location especially for walkers, and we had a very good time despite rain every day. No noise at night nor bright lights (nb wooden venetian blinds seem quite old so no idea if they would keep out full moonlight). The bed was OK for us. A pretty, separate garden for guests, with a sea view from the seat, which sadly we did not use due to rain. The cottage was generally clean and tidy but, given the age of some fixtures and fittings, we suspect that these are beyond the remit of the hours allowed for changeover cleaning. The shower has a weak flow so anyone with long, thick hair would be better taking a bath and using a saucepan for rinsing. There isn’t much of a view from the downstairs area so more than a day inside during incessant rain (especially during Covid restrictions) may be dispiriting for some. We would thoroughly recommend the cottage for outdoors loving friends/relatives who don’t need to travel huge distances from the other end of the UK. The rest would need more creature comforts.

Wonderful, quiet location with everything you'd expect to find in a holiday let, plus a few great extras. The kitchen is large and very well equipped. The layout is great with open plan downstairs area and carpeted staircase up to the first floor landing where you'll find a large bathroom and large double bedroom. The log burning stove is an amazing addition, takes the evening chill out of the air and adds a great romantic feel as the sun sets behind the hill. Tea, coffee and milk supplied as well as fresh milk which is another nice touch.
