The Victorian wooden pier is a great place to walk, fish, and watch the world go by. The Swanage Railway ends in town, and nostalgic steam engine trips take tourists on a 6-mile journey through lovely countryside to Corfe Castle. Nearby Durlston Country Park offers coastal walks, dolphin spotting, and wildlife watching, plus comfortable viewing points and a well-stocked cafe. Studland has one of the country's best beaches, surrounded by heathland, and a regular chain ferry to Sandbanks. This is a great vacation spot year-round.
