About this property
OUR LOVELY HOME WITH KITCHEN BALCONY WITH VIEWS OVER SWANAGE BAY/PURBECK HILLS
**Please note we can only accept 7 day, Saturday to Saturday bookings due to this being our ‘change over’ day. Just 5 to 10 minutes stroll to Swanage's Blue Flag Award Winning Beach, Victorian Pier, the wonderful Steam Railway, art galleries, restaurants, bars and pubs, we are letting our much loved home, over the summer holidays.
Five to 10 minutes walk from the front door will bring you to the Townsend Nature Reserve and on to Durlston National Park, renowned as an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, leading to the Jurassic Coast Cliff Walks, Durlston Castle and the Lighthouse.
We have 3 bedrooms, 2 bright double bedrooms (one with fabulous view of Swanage Bay and Purbeck Hills) both with vanity units and the smaller third with full sized bunk beds with view of Swanage Bay and the Purbeck Hills. There is an open plan large kitchen/diner/family room with double doors leading to balcony and further views of Swanage Bay and Purbeck Hills. Stairs leading down to landscaped garden with covered seating area, barbeque and raised pond. Cosy adult’s lounge to relax in, when younger ones are sleeping, with 50 inch TV and adults’ dining area. In the large open plan kitchen/family room there is a Large 50 inch flat screen TV. A Large Range Cooker and 5 ring hob and washing machine. Fully tiled bathroom with power shower over bath, wash basin and toilet. Separate Toilet and wash basin upstairs. Linens and Towels provided (for use on the premises only).
Off road parking, side gate leading to secure covered area for bicycles/ hiking equipment etc.
A truly fabulously convenient location just a 10 minute walk from all the attractions and conveniences our stunning seaside town has to offer, whilst being away from the bustle of the town.
Available are various boat trips to Brownsea Island, Poole, around local shoreline I.e Old Harry Rocks, Fishing trips, both local mackerel fishing and further out to sea day hires etc. Various Diving Schools at the Pier. Extremely good (so we are told) and picturesque Purbeck Golf Club which is open to the public, there are other golf clubs in the area also open to the public. For the lesser experienced golfers there is crazy golf for the kids in the town centre.
Area is extremely popular with mountain bikers, there is a really good bicycle shop literally round the corner, they are very involved in all local bike events,. They hire bikes out and have a workshop team to fix all levels of bike.
Local convenience shop only 2 minutes down the road open early until late 7 days a week.
Location! We are in the middle of Purbeck's Jurassic Coast, a listed area of Natural Outstanding Beauty. Everything on your doorstep from Townsend Nature Reserve (5 minutes up the hill) to Durlston Head where the magnificent lighthouse is situated, then you can either take the coastal path to Dancing Ledge and on to Worth Matravers where you will find the famous Square and Compass pub, this is a truly unspoiled traditional pub overlooking the sea, it is very rustic with a serving hatch, barrels of beer behind hatch, a wide cider menu, pasties on a paper plate only food available. There are no fruit machines, pool table, tv's, juke boxes! It also has a Fossil Museum.
Another lovely place to visit is the Scott Arms at Kingston with its stunning garden views over Corfe Castle, they have a good food reputation and also often have an outside Jerk Shack food bar.
There is of course Corfe Castle itself, you can take the Swanage Steam Train to this. Near by there are also Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove to visit.
If you turn left from the lighthouse towards Durlston Castle then it will take you back into Swanage via The Downs.
If you travel further towards Sandbanks through Studland there are miles of quiet unspoilt National Trust beaches. You can also travel on to Sandbanks, Poole and Bournmouth via the Chain Ferry. An absolutely fabulous place to have a meal or a glass of wine is Shell Bay Restaurant and Bar, next to the ferry - it offers amazing views (see photo).
Our home has great views over the Bay and of the Purbeck Hills and is close walking distance to Swanage, you won't necessarily need to take the car.
Our home is just off the High St so you don't get the late night noises of people 'strolling home'.
Two minutes down the road is our wonderful local pub/restaurant (The Black Swan) which serves delicious food (although it is best to book as they get very busy). Also to be found is a very good Chinese take away just around the corner.
There are of course a choice of fish and chips shops.
There is also a lovely old stone church and Mill pond just down the hill.
Please note if there are any accidents there is a cottage hospital just literally around the corner, but it is not a 24 hr/ out of hours hospital.

Lovely property, immaculate and obviously well loved. Beautiful views out over Swanage Bay. Great location, not only for Swanage itself, but to explore further into Dorset.

Thank you so much for choosing our home in stunning Swanage and looking after it so well for us. The off-road parking certainly is a bonus, as well as the corner shop. The downhill short stroll to the sandy beach is a real treat. We also enjoy the 5 minute walk to Townsend Nature Reserve, offering majestic views and leading to the cliff tops/the Anvil Point Lighthouse and Durlston Castle. It would be a pleasure to welcome you all again.
The cottage has everything you need and is in a great location to explore Swanage. The hosts were extremely quick to respond to any questions and were super accommodating.

Fantastic property - perfect location
This beautiful house is perfectly located only 5 minutes walk away from the lovely centre of Swanage, a short walk from two great pubs (Black Swan, Globe Inn) and from the main access roads. The house has everything you would ever need and Dave and Fran were so kind to us on our arrival - they will ensure you have a perfect holiday here. I could not recommend this place highly enough.

Andrew and lovely family,
We are absolutely delighted you enjoyed your stay here in our much loved home. It was a pleasure to welcome you all here.
We could not have wished for more perfect guests. Thank you for taking care of everything - we arrived back to find everything as perfect as when we left, it was so much appreciated.
We enjoyed reading of your adventures on your many 'days out' in our guest book - this will be so helpful for future guests.
Once again, an absolute pleasure to have met you all.
Kindest regards
David and Frances
David and Francis were great hosts they sent us links that we could see what was going on in the surrounding areas. We were very lucky that the weather was brilliant i think we had a drop of rain on one day. The house was a good size and gave us plenty of options so we could just sit and chill. We highly recommend this let and we would consider staying here in the future.

Joanne, Thank you for choosing our home and appreciating our sea and hill views. We are so delighted you had a fabulous holiday in beautiful Swanage. Kind regards Francess and David.
We had a lovely week staying in this property. The location is excellent! Walking distance to the beach and town of Swanage and lots of other great beaches and attractions only a short drive away.
The property itself was ideal for us and our 3 children. The sea view from the balcony at breakfast was a bonus as was the under cover sofas and fairy lights outside. The owners were very welcoming and they left lots of little extra’s you wouldn’t normally expect from a holiday home like laundry and wash up stuff, toilet rolls etc and a welcome basket!
Thank you we have a lovley week away!

We are lighted you enjoyed our home in beautiful Swanage. The location being such a short walk to the lovely sandy beach, as well as all the amenities of the town, certainly are a bonus. We are also incredibly fortunate to be a 7 minute walk from the Townsend Nature Reserve, bringing you to Durlston Castle, with its Educational Centre and Exhibition Gallery and the stunning views as you walk along the cliff tops of Durlston Country Park and National Nature Reserve.
Thank you for taking such good care of our home, it was a pleasure to welcome you and your lovely family.
The house was fabulous. Has everything a family could possibly need. Situated in the pretty old part of Swanage. Had lots of amenities near by, beach, shops, train station, restuarants and pubs. All within walking distance. Its up a steep hill if walking but parking for 2 cars was no problem. Some of the furniture in the garden was missing but not sure if this was due to owners being called away unexpectedly. I would definately recommend this property. The best holiday home we have stayed in.
A really lovely stay. The views are magnificent and indoors there are plenty of areas to sit and relax in. A terraced garden also with multiple choices of seating areas .. there is a bench table in the garden, we had breakfast on the patio table on the balcony and also my daughter and I had an evening wine on the high stools & table looking over the sea and Ballard down. A short walk to the town & not too much uphill on the way back. Would recommend.

We are so very happy you all enjoyed stunning Swanage and the various outdoor seating arrangements, which make the most of the fabulous views, especially from the kitchen balcony.
Being such a short walking distance to the lovely sandy beach, is of course, a great advantage, along with having Townsend Nature Reserve just 5 to 10 minutes walk away.
Thank you for taking such good care of our much loved home.

Lovely homely cosy house with great views in fab location
We had a great time staying in this wonderful house in Swanage, and it got better as the week went on. We found it to be clean, cosy, well equipped and comfortable. There are great views to the coast and over the town, and the kids loved exploring the garden and observing the fish.
The kitchen diner is bright modern and spacious, with access to a balcony and steps down to the garden. The living room is lovely and cosy, as are the bedrooms. We even got to meet the owners who were very warm, welcoming and hospitable.
We all had a great time, especially the kids. Thanks very much for having us, hope to stay again one day

Thank you so much, it was wonderful to meet you all. Delighted you had a wonderful time and thank you for taking such good care of our home.
A well equipped property with plenty of room for 4 adults and 2 children. Ideal location for the town, beach and amenities of Swanage. The one drawback is the parking issue with that particular area of Swanage. We had 2 vehicles, one of which we were able to park on the drive of the property. Our other car had to be parked about 400m away out of sight from the property. All available on the road parking was occupied all week.
Apart from that issue, though, we had a wonderful time in Swanage

We are delighted you enjoyed your stay in our home and of course stunning Swanage and hope the ‘welcome treats’ were enjoyed also.
With regard to parking - we are not aware of it ever being an issue for our previous guests as we have always provided parking on our driveway and continue to do so. The surrounding areas provide free parking for any additional vehicles, however, during high season it is understandable it may become busy.
As you enjoyed your stay so much in our lovely home and Swanage, we feel dropping us one star, when private parking was provided, seems rather harsh.
Fantastic Property for Swanage, Studland and surrounding areasland
Francess and Dave are great hosts. They showed us round the property when we arrived and there was a very generous gift basket. As explained in the listing, this is their house (they stay in the annex, but happened to be away for the whole time we were there - apart from greeting us). The massive benefit of this is the property has real soul and is not just a magnolia-walled, Ikea-filled money maker for someone. We loved the creative use of old champagne corks!
The house is immaculately maintained, and very well equipped - we took advantage of Sky Q and Netflix more than the balcony and garden as the weather was changeable while we were visiting, to say the least!
It was a fantastic place for our three adults and two young kids (5 and 7). A great base for exploring Swanage - 10 minutes walk to the sea front. We also went to Corfe Castle, Kimmeridge Bay, Studland, Brownsea Island, Putlake Adventure Park and made use of the Bay View swimming pool which was 4 mins drive.
We strongly recommend the Pier Cafe, Clavells for a treat (in Kimmeridge) and Castaways for a family meal.

We are so delighted you all enjoyed your stay in our home in stunning Swanage. There are so many beautiful places to visit, as you all discovered for yourselves, many on our doorstep.
Thank you all so very much, for taking such good care of our home, leaving it so tidy was very much appreciated by us.
The weather was changeable, but, fortunately not too bad for late October. It is so handy to have ‘Bay View’ Swimming Pool/Gym so close by and of course there are always the selection of board games for indoor entertainment, along with Sky Q and Netflix, if the weather is not so good.
We are delighted you all enjoyed the gift box.
Plenty of living space and a nice outdoor area, WC upstairs was small, this is a typical experience with the older homes in Swanage so not a negative reflection in any way. The decked balcony was a highlight with views over Swanage bay. A short walk from Swanage center and beach. Just outside the center so getting out of Swanage for other attractions was easy.
The detailed guide is provided by the hosts.
An issue with damage was highlighted after exit, but all were resolved with pleasant and friendly interactions. Location-wise for our needs, this property was bang on. Parking does look like it would be an issue with the two cars we had, however, this was not the case with on-street and off-street options within a short walk.
We cannot recommend this property highly enough! It was exactly as advertised, spotlessly clean and the most well-equipped place we've ever stayed in. Prior to arrival the communication was excellent and included lots of information about where to visit. Fantastic location only 5 mins walk into town with amazing views from the back garden and master bedroom. Can't wait to return!

Thank you so very much for taking such good care of our home and should you come again, it would be our pleasure to welome you with a 10 per cent discount.
We loved our stay at this fantastic property. "Bay View" is in a superb location in Swanage-within walking distance to the centre of town, all shops and local amenities, as well as the beach and nearly cliff walks . The house was perfect for our family of 5 (3 teenagers). It was big enough for everyone to have their own space but the kitchen area was a super family space which we used the most- especially with easy access to the garden, decking balcony and the beautiful view of Swanage Bay which the house benefits from. The lobby area was a great space for storing walking boots and sandy footwear and bags after a long day out. The master bedroom holds a wonderful view to wake up to each morning. All the rooms were spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Frances and David were fantastic hosts. From the beginning of the booking process right through to the end of our stay, they were excellent communicators and made every effort to get to know us as a family without ever being intrusive at all. The welcome basket which was personalised was a lovely touch as we walked through the door and it was very much appreciated by us all as France and David ensured there was something for everyone in the basket-thank you!
We were blessed with great weather for the duration of our stay so were able to make the most of staying in Swanage by visiting a variety of costal, countryside and cities from Bournemouth through to Weymouth. The local chain ferry was great for nipping across Poole Harbour to Sandbanks, Bournemouth and Poole. We loved our trip to Chesil Beach and all the usual stops along this stretch of the Jurassic Coast. We enjoyed fossil hunting in Kimmeridge Bay and the nearby Natural Trust beaches of Knoll and Shell were lovely to visit in the evening for a cool walk along the shore. Swanage itself offers a variety of local shops, restaurants and pubs. We enjoyed regular trips for a nightcap in the local pub, The Black Swan, which was located only around the corner from the house.
All in all "Bay View" had everything we could have wished for in a family holiday property. It was home away from home with an excellent location and superb hosts. We all would highly recommend it for a lovely, relaxing holiday in a beautiful part of England.
A very comfortable and spacious home with lovely views. It is located in a quiet road but is only a very short walk into the town centre. Lots to do in Swanage and the surrounding area with some lovely beaches and coastal walks. Frances and David were the most amazing hosts - they went out of there way to find out about us and sent us local information and also provided a lovely welcome basket. We would love to go again!

We had a lovely stay in Bay View - perfectly located, just outside of town so near enough to walk everywhere but in a quieter area, with plenty of great coastal walks from the door and beautiful views of the sea. Sitting on the decking in the evening watching the sunset was magical. The house was also so well equipped - everything we needed and spotlessly clean. David and Frances were great hosts - loads of excellent recommendations for walks, pubs, restaurants and places to visit, really easy communication and a lovely welcome basket on arrival. We would highly recommend staying here. Thanks for a great stay, just what we all needed.

Convenient Swanage location
Walking distance to all the amenities of Swanage shops and beaches and with a nice view of the bay from the kitchen balcony, which is however only big enough for two people to sit on. The garden is spacious but lacks the lovely view. The kitchen is a great space with table, chairs and room to socialise and there are lots of good food shops in Swanage so we like to cook and spend time in the kitchen, however it is difficult to keep clean as there is no dishwasher and a lot of personal knick-knacks decorating it. Overall, we enjoyed our stay because Purbeck is such a great holiday destination and we had lovely weather.

Our much loved ‘home by the sea’ is situated in an ideal location, Swanage Town, the Purbeck Hills and Swanage Bay, whilst a short walk will bring you to the outstanding ‘Townsend Nature Reserve’ leading you up to the Cliff tops and Durlston Castle, where spectacular views of the Jurassic coast greet you.
We are so very disappointed that our last guests have been unhappy with our accommodation offered. We believe the criticisms of this last review to be totally unjustified because photographs of the balcony, garden and kitchen can be clearly seen, BEFORE the guests decided to make a reservation. The views from our kitchen balcony look over Swanage Bay and the Purbeck Hills, as well as our lovely garden. It is a lovely spot to sit at the 2 seater table and enjoy a pot of tea or glass of wine. Should guests wish to move **2 more garden chairs on to the balcony there is adequate room, plenty of extra chairs and are more than welcome to do so**. Our spacious garden has been landscaped with a raised covered seated patio area, where a **glimpse of the sea can be seen, along with some of the Purbeck Hills** . Considering our home is in this lovely quaint seaside town I believe the views from our garden to be lovely. It has a selection of seasonal high shrubs, offering privacy, raised Oak beds, a lawned area and a Koi Fish Pond. Our large kitchen offers a double oven, 6 ring range style cooker, loads of work space , but, **NO dishwasher**, (as clearly stated in our advertisement) but what ‘Fabulous Views’ from the Sink in Front of the Kitchen Window Whilst Washing Up!!! This is not a hotel, this is our home and as you would expect our kitchen reflects that!! I certainly do not have any problems keeping my kitchen CLEAN!!! We welcome any perspective guests to look at our previous ratings and fabulous reviews and of course our ‘Accurate Photographs’ of the accommodation offered. We take great pride and pleasure in welcoming guests to our ‘home’ which offers everything you would expect to find .
A lovely property in a great location in Swanage. It was perfect for our family and the off road parking was a great bonus. Really clean and roomy property. Many thanks for letting us stay!
Cracking house, perfect for a family holiday in Swanage. 5 Stars and Champagne all round!
The house is great, the communication with the owners was quick and friendly.
The house is in a great location, a quick walk to the the beach front or centre of town. You can hear the steam trains and see the smoke from the house, which is ideal for a train loving 1 year old and his Grandad. There is a lovely sea view and great outdoor space. The double driveway is a real bonus in the area the house is.
We would be very happy to stay here again.
Thank you

We are delighted you had a wonderful say In our much loved home and beautiful Swanage.
The steam train certainly is quite magical, especially when your hear it ‘tooting’ along. The train ride to Corfe Castle is fabulous. Families can have meals on one of the old carriages that is location on the station platform. They also do special events, which is worth keeping an eye out for.
We hope you managed to enjoy the beautiful walks along the cliff tops over the Jurassic Coast and stunning Durleston Castle - we are so luck it is only 15 minutes walk through the stunning Townsend Nature Reserve from the front door to the Cliff tops.
Thank you so much for looking after our home.
About the host
Hosted by Francess and David
This is our much loved home by the sea, which we purchased in 2010, after many months of searching. Not an easy task finding a home with a garden, off road parking and a garage, so close to the beach. ***We have our own self-contained Annex - which enables us to carry out general/garden maintenance and the occasional catch up with friends outside of the house (from time to time) but please be assured we will not encroach on your stay in any way, should we happen to use it, as we have our own entrance/exit.
Why they chose this property
Our home has great views over the bay and of the hills and is close walking distance to Swanage town centre and the beautiful sandy beach, you won't need to take the car. It is also just off the High St so you don't get the late night noises of people 'strolling home'. Local late opening shop is 2 mins. away, as is our local pub/restaurant 'The Black Swan' which serves very good food (although it is best to book as they are usually fully booked), also there is a very good Chinese take away just around the corner. There is a wonderful stone church and Mill pond just down the hill.
What makes this property unique
Location! We are in the middle of Purbeck's Jurassic Coast, a listed area of Natural Outstanding Beauty. Everything on your doorstep from Townsend Nature Reserve (5 minutes up the hill) to Durleston Head where the magnificent lighthouse is situated, then you can either take the coastal path to Dancing Ledge and on to Worth Matravers where you will find the famous Square and Compass pub, this is a truly unspoiled traditional rustic pub overlooking the sea, it is very rustic with a serving hatch, barrels of beer behind hatch, a wide cider menu, pasties on a paper plate only food available. There are no fruit machines, pool table tv's juke boxes - and cash only! Or you can turn right from the lighthouse towards Durlston Castle then back into town via The Downs. Another stunning places to visit is the Scott Arms at Kingston with its stunning gardens overlooking Corfe Castle, they have a good food reputation and often have an outside Jerk Shack food bar.
