The region
Luxborough is a peaceful hamlet in the Brendon Hills of Exmoor National Park, about 6 miles south of Dunster. Three tiny settlements -- Churchtown, Kingsbridge, and Pooltown -- nestle in a wooded valley at 600 feet.
This is a deeply rural corner of Exmoor where farming and forestry have replaced the iron mining that once sustained the community. The ancient Church of St Mary in Churchtown dates back to the 13th century, with a medieval stone cross in its churchyard that is a scheduled ancient monument. Many of the cottages in the area are thatched, and the pace of life is wonderfully unhurried.
The Washford River rises near Luxborough and flows through the valley, giving the hamlet of Pooltown its name from the many pools along its course. The surrounding woodland is rich with wildlife -- red deer, buzzards, and woodland birds are regularly spotted.
Luxborough has no shops or general stores. The nearest everyday amenities are in Dunster (6 miles north), which has a good range of independent shops, a post office, butcher, and galleries. The market town of Watchet (7 miles northeast) and Minehead (9 miles north) offer supermarkets, pharmacies, and a wider range of services.
Security Deposit Information A £60 security deposit is required. This will be added to the total price of your booking, and will be refunded after your stay unless the owner discovers damage to the property or its contents after your departure.

The cottage was really lovely and peaceful. You’re close to the owners home but you’re given plenty of space and it doesn’t feel overlooked at all. Great location for exploring the nearby walks and coastal towns/beaches. I would recommend the cottage and would stay again, there were 2 of us and a dog and it was a good size.

Beautiful location and lovely cottage. The cottage itself was comfortable, spacious and clean and well set out with all the equipment needed for a self-catering stay. We loved the outdoor areas and seating as there was always somewhere to sit morning and evening to catch the sun. The host was very helpful and the info left in the cottage about places to explore locally was helpful. We loved our stay here - it was so peaceful and relaxing. We'll definitely be back!

Lovely clean cottage with a very well equipped kitchen. Great rural location with lovely views from the front of the cottage although the outdoor eating area for the cottage is at the rear among farm buildings. The living area is spacious but is open to the upstairs bedroom which did cause us a few issues with light and privacy as we were a party of adults.

Friendly and helpful host and deputy. Cottage in very good order. Comfortable bedrooms and good bathrooms.
The location is in a lovely area, the local pub (about a mile's walk away) serves local ales and has a good kitchen.
The 4 star overall experience rating is a reflection of our preference, rather than something wrong (slouch sofas in low light make reading difficult).
Would definitely recommend the cottage - feels very spacious.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage. The place was immaculate and had all the amenities you need including kitchen towels, pans, plates, utensils etc. That were all still of good quality to use. The cottage itself although spacious felt very cozy and compact. There is also a good amount of work space in the kitchen so if you enjoy cooking, it’s a great prep place. Toiletries were also available and was of great quality. In addition, Annette kindly showed us where it was appropriate for us to take our dog for runs and walks. We also made use of the leaflets and local tips that they provided. Overall, it was a very lovely, peaceful place to stay in that had everything you needed.
