About this property

Jack's Shack | East Ruston Cottages

The village location and so close to the beach means that it is the perfect dog friendly Norfolk holiday cottage! Miles of walks from the door and all you need in the village itself, means you can leave the car alone for a week. If you want to explore you have miles of beaches and other interesting villages up and down the coast.

ALL ABOUT THE INSIDE:
Entrance through the side door into…

Kitchen/diner: A very well equipped kitchen with electric oven and hob, fridge freezer and plenty of cupboard storage space and worktops. Kettle and toaster and microwave. Wooden flooring throughout and plenty of room for the dogs. The dining table easily seats 6 and the 2 areas are separated by a feature brick wall. The sideboard has plenty of information on the area, games and a special information and fundraising section for the local seal colony. There is an adjoining utility room with dishwasher and washing machine and plenty of cupboard space for dog food. All the bowls and more are kept here for the dogs. Just off this is the …

Shower room: Walk in panelled shower, toilet and sink with cupboard storage, heated towel rail and window opening onto the dunes.

Living room: This is at the front of the house, beyond the dining area and stairs and both can be separated off by wooden stable type doors. The room is bright and very nicely decorated. There are 2 sofas, offering plenty of seating for 4, a large coffee table, plenty of books and a 43″ Hisense Smart TV with Freeview / Netflix. Winter evenings can be made cosy with the wood burning stove.

Conservatory: Just beyond the living room is the little conservatory, a perfect place to sit on a sunny day if it’s a bit too windy or cool to sit outside. Two lovely armchairs, table and lamps.

Back through the living room to the stairs which are a little steep, fitting with the age and style of the cottage, but carpeted and with hand rails both sides. There is the option to slot in one of the 2 supplied Dog G8s at the top or bottom of the stairs.

Front bedroom: King size bed in a roomy bedroom with a vanity unit – sink and plenty of storage. Wardrobe, bedside tables and lamps and views over the garden. Curtains have black out thermal linings. Windows have restricted openings but can be opened fully by pressing two buttons.

Rear bedroom: Double bed with hanging space and side tables. This is a smaller bedroom but this is made up for by the lovely views across the dunes and big skies. As with the front bedroom the curtains have black out linings and the window has a restricted opening setting that can easily be over-ridden.

ALL ABOUT THE OUTSIDE:
Courtyard: The front garden is a lovely long courtyard style area with plenty of room for the 2 sets of seating – one a picnic style round bench near the conservatory and the other is armchair seating under a waterproof sun-shade sail. The surface is stone slabs with plenty of plants. The fencing is solid wood all round and 6ft high.

Parking is inside the garage and there is space for one car across the garage entrance. Further parking if needed can be advised on booking.

Outside tap is located on the dune side of the house (ie at the back) and has one short lead to hose sandy paws and feet and a further long hose which is fed to the front garden. There is a small bistro style seating set here too.

Outstanding location

Jacks Shack was wonderful! We had a fabulous long weekend. Caroline had thought of every home comfort for us and the dogs, I have not stayed anywhere before where the dogs have been so well catered for. The cottage is lovely, calm, quiet and in the most amazing location.. we loved having the dunes and beach outside of our back door. I am already searching for dates to come back!

Wonderful to be back at Jack's Shack

Another wonderful visit to Winterton-on-Sea and Jack's Shack. Caroline has provided everything you could need for a dog-friendly holiday by the sea and the welcome basket is the best we have received at any rental property. Jack's Shack is virtually on the dunes making it so easy for humans and dogs to go for lovely walks from the doorstep regardless of the tides. The Seal View is a perfect place to stop for a coffee and the fish & chips from the Winterton Fish Bar are the best around!

What a brilliant place to stay. Everything down to the last tiny detail had been thought about and implemented. We took our 2 dogs and they absolutely loved it, there was just everything that you could think of for them to enjoy their stay. We were made to feel so welcome and the communication before hand was brilliant. We will definitely go back to Jack's Shack!! Thank you!!!

Stay At Jack's Shack

We have been stopping in cottages for many years but this was by far the best, loved the little perks & genuine personal contact. Fair play to Corraline.

Wow what a find this lovely place was.

What a fabulous place to stay, from the location, to the facilities to everything thought of for the dogs, we really cannot fault Jack's Shack. The kitchen was so well equipped, the bed super comfy with quality bed linen and pillows and everywhere was spotless and furnished to a lovely standard which felt very homely. The log burner was easy to light with logs provided. We loved to be able to walk out the back directly onto the dunes but still so close to the fish shop, pub and tea room all literally a 2/3 mins walk. Everything has been thought of and we are very much looking forward to another visit next year.

Loved our stay by the dunes!

We stayed for four nights at a lovely little cottage (Jack’s Shack) which is right behind the dunes at Winterton on sea. Gorgeous beach, lovely little village, really cosy little cottage with literally everything you might ever need! I loved how incredibly hound-friendly this holiday was - the owner clearly really loves dogs and my dog felt so welcome! The communication before, during and after my stay (from the owner and from the East Ruston team),was exceptional, and I will definitely consider having a holiday stay with East Ruston cottages another time.

Another great experience with East Ruston Cottages

An amazingly well equipped and comfortable cottage. A great location right on the sand dunes in Winterton on Sea. Open the back door and you can walk for miles with the dog running free. The owner has provided everything you could possibly need both for humans and dogs! She made contact before our stay which made arriving very smooth. A relaxing week from the start.

Superb accommodation

Superb accommodation that is super dog friendly and the owners seem to have thought of everything. Immediate access to the sand dunes and down to the shore from the property, so the car stays firmly parked the whole stay. Everything you could wish for in a pet friendly accommodation. Fabulous!

Fantastic dog friendly cottage in a very dog friendly village

We stayed for a long weekend with our dog and had a great time. Jack’s Shack is great for humans and dogs alike with lots of thoughtful touches including dog blankets, towels, beds, bowls, ‘holiday’ tags and a nice welcome pack for us. Very spacious bedroom, well appointed kitchen, good sized dining room and a lovely suntrap sunroom. One of the highlights is that the back garden is essentially the start of the dunes. Highly recommended.

A lovely little cottage on the dunes

We booked Jack's Shack as a 'last minute' break and we certainly weren't disappointed. It's a lovely little cottage only footsteps (literally) away from the dunes at Winterton, so a perfect location for both humans and dogs. The cottage it one of the best appointed and provisioned holiday cottages we've stayed in. The owners have thought of everything two-legged and four-legged guests could need including a lovely welcome basket of goodies. We would definitely recommend it and look forward to returning there one day.

Beautiful place

What can I say about this place. It was absolutely perfect. The cottage was beautiful, very comfortable and had everything you could wish for. The added extras and the welcome packs were amazing. The location was wonderful, straight into the sand dunes and then onto beach in seconds. Cute village with all the amenities you could want. The owners really helpful and lovely. Couldn't of wished for more really. Thank you Jack's Shack we had an amazing holiday ❤️❤️

A well equipped cottage in a wonderful location

This was our first visit to the Norfolk coast and was chosen for its proximity to the sand dunes and sea. We were also holidaying with our son and his Labrador so it made perfect sense to choose a place that welcomes dogs so that we could all relax and enjoy ourselves. We loved the quiet location, the old fashioned atmosphere of the village but were impressed that everything was available within a five minute walk. We could have left our car at home if there had been a station nearby. We were blessed with wonderful weather and my son was delighted to find a seal bobbing alongside him while he was swimming. There was always space on the sandy beach for humans and energetic dogs. We had very helpful contact with Caroline the owner and would like to thank her for sharing her beautiful cottage with us.

Lovely holiday location, beautiful property.

Really enjoyed our stay, the host had thought of everything and the home was packed full of useful surprises. Suitable for children and most dogs. Our dogs did struggle a little with the proximity of the neighbours and neigbouring doggy noises. That was more of an oversight of mine as opposed to the hosts however. The host had thought of everything for dogs inside of the property however and the dogs did mostly enjoy their stay. 10 minute walk to the beach, 1 minute to the Dunes. Lovely little village with a nice little pub, very good fish and chip shop and cafe. Will definitely visit Winterton again.

Jacks shack

We stayed at jacks shack and was more than happy. We was welcomed with lots of treats, wine cheese crisps etc. There was also every toiletry you could need. The house was beautiful with a log burner which was lovely as we went in February so was used every night. There is a lovely dog friendly pub within walking distance and the most beautiful beach on the doorstep. I would definitely go again, thank you x

Wonderful to be back at Jack's Shack

Wonderful to be back at Jack's Shack! A lovely, cosy cottage in a great location (right on the dunes) with everything humans and dogs might need for short or long breaks in this beautiful part of the Norfolk coast. The welcome basket has some tasty treats to get the holiday off to a great start and there are plenty of dog beds, bowls, toys and treats to please four-legged guests too. It is undoubtedly the best provisioned holiday cottage we've stayed in. Winterton has a great Fish & Chip shop and Poppy's Tea Room and the Seal View Cafe (right on the dunes) are perfect stops for coffee and lunch. We hope to be back very soon.

Great weekend

Our first time at Jack’s Shack did not disappoint. It met all the gold standards that we have so far experienced when booking through East Ruston Cottages - very clean, very comfortable, welcoming, everything you need and more provided for both humans and dogs. Could easily have turned up with just a suitcase, ourselves and the dogs and nothing more. Excellent location for village amenities and beach walks. Is definitely on our return list. Blown away by the provision of so many doggy items that we never knew we needed!

The best stay we've ever had anywhere !

We have used East Ruston Cottages previously and we're so impressed with their dog friendly approach. We decided to try somewhere new this time, a new accomodation called Jacks Shack. The location is absolutely fantastic super close to the beach and local amenities. The cottage itself is perfect spacious, clean and has literally everything we needed for our dog and baby. What really made a difference to me was the host. Caroline almost feels like a friend to me now. Shes so warm, helpful and understanding. Her welcome goodies and things she had for us to use was the best we have ever seen. We are looking already to book again for next year. Thank you for allowing us to make so many fun memories on our first trip with the new baby too!

A fantastic place to stay!

We've just come back from an amazing stay in Jack's Shack! It's such a lovely cottage - it backs onto the dunes, and is just a few minutes walk from a beautiful beach. No roads to cross to get to the sea!! The Cottage has absolutely everything you need - nothing has been overlooked - and it's so dog-friendly which made our stay very relaxing! It's very comfortable, with a nautical theme throughout, and it has a lovely little sun room from which to enjoy the gorgeous, fully enclosed garden (which is prettily lit-up on a night). On arrival, we were greeted with a very nice welcome pack, and there was even one for our pup too! The Cottage is down a quiet lane, so no passing traffic, and it's very peaceful and tranquil. Use of the garage for the car was an added bonus. An extremely well-equipped, dog-friendly cottage. We would highly recommend, and we'd love to return!! Caroline was a very helpful and responsive host.
