The Montreat house was fabulous. It was comfortable, interesting, and very eclectic. Everything you’d want in a Montreat house this house has. It is close to everything, very accessible, and a comfortable place.
The very best in old school retreat houses. Great location within walking distance of Lake Susan, Assembly Inn and Anderson Auditorium. The host of this house (Richard) was exceptionally helpful to us and we would stay here or at any of his other properties in the future!
The Respite House provides a great space for rest and renewal in Montreat. The front porch is amazing, and the inside is well set up for conversations and relationship building. A great place to stay in Montreat!
We had a wonderful time. The owner answered all our questions quickly. Checking in was easy and other than a bear getting into the garbage we had no problems.
We LOVED the front porch with all the rocking chairs! We spent every possible moment out there. The house was very cozy and roomy. We are jigsaw puzzle enthusiasts and there were plenty of good spaces to work on one. We enjoyed our stay!
Well-appointed and maintained historic Montreat cottage. The location is an easy walk to the conference center and local activities. The property manager was easy to communicate with and quickly responded to questions. A great place to stay in Montreat!
Appliances are dirty and work incompletely. Cookware is old and dirty. One eye on the stove in not functioning. Front porch is dangerous. Great fireplace but no usable wood on site and no help from host in acquiring any. Could only get check-in information after two emails. We were informed that the upstairs toilet was not working properly and that a plumber had been called but that plumber never showed up during our four day stay.
The heat works great which is important in January and the location is super when attending conferences at Montreat Conference Center.
This property was well represented from the photos and the description. Being a longtime visitor to Montreat, I would describe it as your typical Montreat house, with lots of character but not really many modern upgrades. We really enjoyed it and found it very well-stocked. The owner was extremely responsive to any questions we had. We would come back - was perfect of a family Thanksgiving.
Lovely, history-filled house located in a quiet wooded area. Very easy walk to Lake Susan and the park - which our 2nd and 4th grader loved! Quick drive into Black Mountain for food and shopping, and also to local hikes. Plenty of space to spread out and relax. Definitely want to return!
The house was perfect for our family during a pandemic. We could spread out in the four bedrooms and two baths. It is an old house with old house quirks, including stains and dust. But this also meant we could have our dogs, which meant a lot. Things were clean where it mattered. And the price was right.
After a crazy year, my family needed a place to meet in the middle for Thanksgiving. It was just like staying at my grandmas house....which is just what we needed. Quiet, great hiking nearby, good for long walks.
Property was like walking back in time to a family home with antiques, old family pictures on the wall and other decor around. There are modern updates with TV, wifi, newer beds and good central heating.
Enjoyed our stay. Plenty of room even for our large family.
Great place. Old work mates met up to hike and enjoy each others company. All range from late 20s to early 40s. Plenty of room, great hangout spot. Beautiful location!!
Exactly the stay we expected from an early 19th century cabin and would stay again. Our group has been visiting Montreat for 40 years and wanted to reminisce in a similar cabin. Overall, the cabin was relatively clean on the surface areas but could be purged of some older musty items which can be challenging for those with sensitive noses or health issues.
We had a nice time at this property. It was a pretty short walk to Lake Susan and a nice playground where our kids enjoyed running around and playing. It is an old house with a nice porch and it had most everything we needed.
Great for our family reunion. Bought tickets to the Thanksgiving buffet at the Assembly Inn and walked there together. Plenty of walks and playground time. Would do it again!
