Married with Children : D Grew up spending my Summers in Montreat with my Grandparents and cousins. Driving from Texas in the back of their old station wagon. We would pull off at the rest stops and have sandwiches and cream of chicken “Cup of Soup”. We always had to spend one night at a motel and if they had a pool, we had to swim. Don’t worry about telling us how cold the water was, because we didn’t care. Nothing was going to keep us out of that pool! My grandmother purchased activity books with puzzles and activities and games to play. We also played tic, tac, toe with each other and dots where you took turns connecting dots to make squares when you closed a square, you got to put your initials in the box and the person with the most boxes in the end, Won. We enjoyed clubs and we use to have Sadie Hawkins where in the morning the girls ran after the boys and you tag a boy and come back at 2:00 and bring a lunch from home to share. Clubs had field trips to Sliding Rock and The Biltmore. We use to skate in the barn and later in the basement of the Gym. It was the Best! We want others to make their own Montreat Memories. Now I am grown and visit with friends on porches. I create fun pottery pieces and go on hikes lead by the Montreat Rangers on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s, shop at The Tobacco Barn. We always go to an Asheville Tourist game every Summer. We go to the Biltmore House every year! Sometimes in the Winter to see House decorated in all of its Christmas Glamor with fireplaces glowing sending shadows to dance on the walls. The house offers special displays of art with historical showcases on famous artists or grand displays of Art itself throughout the house or property. Sometimes we just make a reservation at one of our favorite restaurants on the property to eat and we have to have ice cream at one of their shops. Lastly, we enjoy sampling new wines they have created and walk thru both the hot house and cold house and outdoor gardens!

Why they chose this property

Such a cute house, very neat and 1920's charm with modern updates and conveniences. Our family LOVES the mountains, the creeks, the smell of greenery just outside your window. I grew up spending summers in Montreat with family and friends. Stepping into a whole separate world with mother nature infusing herself into your heart through sight, sound, smell and touching you eternally with memories of an experience you carry with you for a life time. Spending time with your family, that you don't get at home with our regular daily home schedules. Going to square dances on Friday Nights and ice cream at the Blue Cone (Dairy King-not Queen) afterwards with friends, and listening to the rain outside your window at night as the crickets sing along. Lovin' my Montreat Memories! When we saw this house, we had to find a way to make it ours. The windows are alluring and stories of families before us drew us in even more. It’s such a typical Montreat house that starts off as a Summer cottage and is transformed into a year around retreat.. We love being tucked into the mountain and we love the greenery surrounding us. Every room is loaded with windows. Not only can you enjoy the view, it is a dual purpose window that you just have to open when our rainy afternoon and night times come and you are lulled into a place where time seems to stand still. It’s like stepping into another world as the rain comes down to splash away your worries. The windows are great for sunshine alike. The birds have a song no matter what time of day and there are little squirrel families scurrying about and chipmunks are busy as well, but the deer are particularly happy with our yard full of a variety of hosta plants blanketing the landscape. Come see for yourself. Come sit on our porch and rock, relax and rest while you enjoy the sites and sounds of Montreat. My cousins wife decided the den needed a day bed and a day bed was born. Come stay in our super cute cottage and see for yourself : D

My cousins wife decided the den needed a day bed and a day bed was born and I knew I wanted a reading area and now I have it and nearby here is a table that is calling for a puzzle to be pondered over and pieced together to a triumphant completion. There are three roads to take at the end of our driveway. The first will take you straight to Montreat Road where you can step on to the wonderful “Elizabeth’s Path” as we share the beauty that surrounds us down this trail to the Montreat Gate, another road that leads to the “Dust Bowl” the soft ball field & the last leads to our postal hub, The Montreat Post Office then you cross the street to The Robert Lake Park and on to Anderson Auditorium and finally the Huckleberry. Get an ice cream cone and sit on the porch and enjoy the water as it races down the damn into Flat Creek. The Book Store has your Montreat t-shirt or gift for your friends and family at home.
