About this property

Penarllygad - a self catering cottage that sleeps 8 guests in 5 bedrooms

A detached property in a rural location, Penarllygad is a spacious five bedroom holiday cottage near Criccieth. Sleeping eight people across five bedrooms, with the addition of a nursery room, this is a fabulous property for a large family wanting to explore the Llŷn Peninsula. With two lounge areas, a kitchen diner and a large outdoor space, there's plenty of scope for guests to gather together as a large group, or have some personal space.

Entering the property through the front door, a hallway leads to all reception rooms. To the right, the smaller of the two lounge areas is still substantial in size, with a leather sofa and two armchairs finished in green with wood detail. The green colour scheme runs through the décor with the feature wall and soft furnishings following the theme. Quarry tiles are laid to the floor and a large fireplace sits to the centre of the feature wall with an electric wood burner effect fire. This snug is a cosy space to snuggle up with a good book, or catch up on some TV. To the opposite side of the hallway, a large and sociable kitchen diner features modern units along with a large dining table located to one end. The U-shaped kitchen units finished in a grey wood effect feature a pale wooden worktop housing a double oven and electric hob, built in dishwasher, fridge freezer and plenty of storage space. With wood strip flooring, bright white walls and spotlights, this modern and contemporary kitchen is a fabulous room to cook up some hearty breakfasts or dinners, and socialise at the end of a busy day exploring. A separate utility room houses a washing machine, ideal for longer stays.

The rear of ground floor of Penarllygad is home to the main lounge area, once again featuring the traditional quarry tile flooring. A large room, recently renovated with modern touches but still retaining character, a mix of white and blue walls are complemented by grey and blue fabric sofas and side chairs. An inglenook style fireplace houses a log burner on a slate hearth and a pine coffee table sits on a large rug in the centre of the room. To one side, a door leads out to a lean-to with further seating, to the other side, sliding patio doors lead out to a decked area. A further door in the lounge leads into a modern downstairs shower room. Decorated with grey tiled walls and pale wood effect flooring, a large walk in shower cubicle sits alongside a WC and basin built into a vanity unit, providing storage.

Heading upstairs in this spacious five bedroom holiday cottage near Criccieth, the layout comprises three double bedrooms (one with en-suite), two single bedrooms, a family bathroom and a nursery. To the rear, the master bedroom with en-suite is a lovely warm room finished with green tones. A thick grey carpet is laid to the floor and a wooden framed bed sits between two bedside tables with lamps providing soft light. Pale green bedding match the green and white accents of the soft furnishings. A chest of drawers, open wardrobe and smart TV complete the layout of this cosy room. The en-suite, with a marble effect wall finish includes a corner walk in shower cubicle, WC, basin and handy storage unit for toiletries.

Two further double bedrooms, both to the front of the cottage feature similar layouts with wooden framed double beds flanked by bedside cabinets and table lamps. One room is finished with yellow tones, where the other has shades of green. There are side chairs, open wardrobes with shelving, and TVs in both rooms. The two single bedrooms once again feature comfortable wooden framed beds with open storage wardrobes and bedside cabinets, and a TV is included in one room. The sixth room upstairs, located between both doubles features a wooden cot, bedside cabinet and chair making the property suitable for families with a baby. Completing the layout of Penarllygad, an upstairs family bathroom is fitted with a walk in shower cubicle as well as a bath, WC and sink housed into a useful storage unit.

A maximum of 2 dogs are welcome at this property.

What makes this property unique

The rural location of this spacious five bedroom holiday cottage near Criccieth, is fabulous for guests wanting a quiet and peaceful location for a break on the Llŷn Peninsula. Although the property shares a driveway with another house, there is ample private space to the front and rear. To the front, a lovely lawn area is the perfect spot for the kids to play and to the rear, accessed from the main lounge, a south facing modern decked area features an outdoor dining table and chairs. The space is perfect for alfresco dining or a couple of drinks before the sun sets in the evening.

The pretty seaside town of Criccieth is just over five minutes away by car. There are a number of reasons to visit including a fantastic beach, and a number of restaurants and cafes. There's no better spot on a sunny day than sitting outside Dylan's Restaurant, gazing out at the fabulous North Wales coastline. This restaurant, housed in a fabulous art deco building, is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. A short walk up the hill from the beach leads to Criccieth Castle, sitting on the hilltop providing spectacular views of the surrounding coastline and mountains including the peaks of Eryri (Snowdonia) in the distance. After exploring the castle, stop into Cadwalader's for some fantastic ice cream.

Further along the coastline of the Llŷn Peninsula, Llanbedrog and Abersoch have some of the best beaches in the area. Gently shelving, sandy coves with waves lapping onto the golden sand, these beaches are made for lazy summer days or brisk walks in the winter. Heading to the north of the peninsula, the beaches are wilder but equally as wonderful. It's only a short drive east to the town of Porthmadog and onwards to the stunning Italianate Village of Portmeirion, packed full of quirky and wonderfully coloured buildings, alongside cafes and shops. It's a stunning location and was the set for the 1960's cult classic TV show The Prisoner.

For family adventures, Glasfryn Parc is an all-weather destination packed full of adventure. With activities such as Go Karting, Crazy Golf and Ten Pin Bowling, whatever the weather there is something to do. Water lovers can try out the Aquaparc or have a go at Stand Up Paddle Boarding or Kayaking. A must visit when in the area. Further afield, hikers and walkers will find that the Parc Genedlaethol Eryri is also only a short drive north east, with miles of walking trails and pretty villages to explore.
