About this property
Deer Creek Cottage, 29300 Hwy 160, East Of Cortez, Colorado 81321
This road side Cottage is located on a large parcel of land with neighboring houses, that was originally set up for the working families to live here and support this property. This area is filled with a lot of family history. We would like to share all this with you. The view from the windows from this cottage could give you a glimpse of wildlife maybe a deer or possible a coyote or see agricultural activity at different times of the year, spring is the season for calfs in the pastures or maybe you can view a horse or two.
We are in a Country setting area just off the South side of highway 160, about 2 and a half miles out of Cortez. About 7 miles from the Mesa Verde Entrance. Our Cottage has a convenient location for your coming and going to take care of your local needs without having to be in the town itself. You are close to town with the beauty of being in the rural community.
Easy access to the Bike paths of Phils World, across from the Montezuma County Fair Grounds about a mile East from the house you would be staying at, a visit McPhee Reservoir for more serious fishing. Just 10 miles North in the Dolores area.
The Cottage is equipped with your basics needs. As you enter front room, you enjoy the Country feel with the smells of a wood burning stove in cooler part of season, a swamp cooling unit is set in the front room for cooling on those hot days. As you enter the dinning room area where you have a coffee machine you have an inviting table for the family to gather. Fresh linens are prepared each stay and complementary soaps are provided in the house ready for your stay. There is a utility room with a small rollaway bed on request for those larger families. We have a fenced in yard. You are welcome to contact us for more information about the place, feel free to let one of us know what you need and we will get back with you as soon as possible.
The majority of our people come to visit the Mesa Verde. We are about 7 minutes from the entrance and 6 minutes to the local Wal Mart. Just a reminder if you plan on the Mesa Verde and are interested in guided tours. Please stop into the building before you enter the park to purchase tickets and get maps to get the most out of your visit. they are open between Memorial Day to about Labor Day. Cliff Palace and Balcony House are my favorite and worth the extra time and money. If you're into driving in the spring and want to do your own tour, I would travel 10 miles north on highway 145 to were highway 184 turns to West and go to the Heritage Center. They are called the gateway to the Canyon of the Ancients. There they will help you map out your own personal road trip to see ruins like the Mesa Verde just a smaller version of that huge park Mesa Verde. You could even include driving by the Four Corners.
Phil’s World for the bike riders is East on the highway a mile away, across from the Montezuma County Fair Grounds. If you're into walking, you could walk the trail out back and meet up with the bike trails by trail under the highway from the Fair Grounds. There at that point is a historical sight that tells of the history of that irrigation channel that brings water to the Ute Mountain and other farmer and ranchers south of Cortez.
We are 10 minutes from the high mountains where you can see beautiful colors in the fall or just drive some old mountain roads. If you stay with us I can dig out the old maps for the fun of it or you can just drive North threw Dolores and keep going on the highway of the Alpine sights to see Mountain View’s that are breath taking. Maybe stop in Telluride to ride the gondola to the top of the mountain. Or travel on to Ouray to hot springs.
Were ever you decide to stay have fun. There is a lot to see.

Our family of four stayed for 2 nights. All the needed amenities for a home base while exploring Mesa Verde. Clean and quiet. The horses out back were our favorite!
Barbara's house fulfilled all of our needs. While the property is older, everything one needs for a comfortable stay is provided. We also enjoyed the quiet, country setting. Quick access to Mesa Verde National Park is also a plus.
This cute home was the perfect place to stay to visit Mesa Verde National Park and the high mountain town of Silverton. The home was very comfortable, and had everything we needed. The kitchen was small but wonderful. The bedrooms great. The fireplace insert was ready with wood inside, and gave us a fun evening in front of the fire. Everything was perfect. My wife and children rated the experience a 9 out of 10. Almost perfect.
Check in was easy, we had everything we needed. The house is quite old and the interio not modern, but ok. It's located near the street, so you can hear the car's passing, but we could sleep well.If you want to go to Mesa Verde it is good to get there - only some minutes. The city of Cortez, where you find restaurants and supermarkets are near by.
Cozy home. Perfect location for visiting nearby national and state parks. The owner was friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting this area.
This stay was for my mom and my in-laws whale they were here for graduation. Quiet and clean!
Only complaint are the stairs into the house are steep and hard for people to get up, especially if you are 70!
Had a great stay. Mesa Verdi National Park was just down the road and Cortez was close as well. The beds were very comfortable. While there we also road the Durango to Silverton railroad and also drove the San Juan Skyway. We happened to hit the fall colors at their peek! Loved it.
We enjoyed our weekend stay at Deer Creek Cottage. It's easy to get into Mesa Verde and around Cortez and Dolores. The cottage is very cute, clean, and has the basics needed for a weekend rental. Thank you!
We were racing at the fairgrounds a mile away for the weekend, and being so close and convenient was perfect after a long, rainy couple of days! Everything was exactly as expected and super easy.

Road Trip
It was a cute little house and central to what we were wanting to do. Only complaint TV would quit after about 9:30.
Barbara was a very sweet and accommodating host. Very fun to visit with.

Glad to have them. It was unexpected to have lighting on the ridge that put out the tv boasters on the Mesa. We are working on an alternative movie sorce of watching TV off the internet. Sorry it had to happen during there stay.
We are 4 seniors that were looking for a great spot to explore the 4 corners area. Deer Creek Cottage fit our expectations perfectly.
Couldn’t ask for a better host. Barbra answered our questions and told us of places to visit.
The cottage felt homey and and had everything we needed. Horses out the kitchen window was a great addition for me!
We would stay again!

Barbara has done a really nice job of making this a cozy, very comfortable and fully equipped home base for exploring the area. I especially enjoyed the views of Mesa Verde, Sleeping Ute and the San Juan Mountains from windows around the house. Deer Creek is conveniently located just 7 miles from the entrance to Mesa Verde National Park, about 10 miles from Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center, and just a couple miles from the businesses on the east end of Cortez.
I look forward to returning!
With so many owners using wide angles to make things look bigger, we were surprised by the amount of space we had. The house was clean and comfortable. The spacious laundry room is nice, especially because we arrived here on our 14th day on the road. We also realli liked the map with pins 📌 showing the home base of previous guests.
Much larger inside that picture makes it out to be
Great stay. very clean property. View the field and horses in back yard were outstanding. Watercooler did a decent job despite July heat. One large dip in road leading to house will take out kidneys and shocks if you hit it wrong angle. But the property itself was great. Enjoyed watching sunsets for porch. Thanks for the great stay.
great location for all the day trips we wanted to take. So nice to come back to the house in the evening. Was perfect for us and had everything we needed. the host answered promptly when I had a question. Enjoyed beautiful sunsets from the front porch and morning coffee outside. We also had a jar of honey that was left for us by our host Barbara that was delicious
It was clean and quaint. Location was perfect. We visited four corners and Mesa Verde. Right off the main highway, but tucked back away from the road and never noticed any traffic noise. We appreciated a full kitchen and access to washer/dryer. We felt safe, it was peaceful, I think my favorite parts were the rocking chairs and front porch at sunset. Lovely. Thank you.
