About this property
5 Bed in Bleadney (oc-r33959)
Midway between the cathedral city of Wells and the market town of Wedmore, this characterful country residence is perfectly positioned for exploring Somerset and the rest of the West Country. The panoramic views enjoyed from the garden provide an abundance of walking trails that lead from the doorstep, and a short drive takes you into the heart of the Mendip Hills National Landscape – stop at Cheddar Gorge or Wookey Hole, for the must-see showcaves, shops and cafes. For a breath of sea air, head west where Weston-super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea. To the south visit the iconic Glastonbury Tor which can be seen from the garden - at the top you’ll have some great views over the Somerset Levels. Alternatively visit the many nature reserves and wetlands that provide a prime location for walks and wildlife-watching. Especially impressive are the starlings ‘murmuring’ in the winter months. If you fancy exploring further you will find the glamourous end of Somerset - Bruton, Frome and The Newt with its magnificent gardens.
A large parking area announces your arrival and allows you to unpack at a leisurely pace and close to the house. Step through the front door and leave boots and outdoor gear ready-to-go in the boot room. The farmhouse-style kitchen has an Aga, kitchen table and a wide range of pots, pans and tins to cook a range of food. Complemented by a utility room full of cookery books, baking accessories and with laundry facilities also. Two steps up from the kitchen, the first of your social spaces is a gorgeous lounge with a Smart TV, a sofa and a set of French doors opening onto the stunning garden. There’s an open fire in the adjacent dining room, which has an antique dining table and chairs, arranged centrally, with dual-aspect windows and more French doors onto the garden. Botanical-themed sofas set the scene for more sociable soirees in the garden room; with exposed beams, more French doors, a Smart TV and a pretty wood burner, this is a room for all seasons and would make an excellent break-out space for anyone seeking some time away from the larger group. Completing the ground floor is a double bedroom which is perfect for those seeking more privacy. Plus, a ground-floor WC. Stairs off the kitchen lead to a further four bedrooms, all with period features and breathtaking countryside views. Choose between 2 king size bedrooms, both with en-suite bathrooms. Leaving a spacious double room and a twin bedroom that share use of the family shower room.
Children can let off steam in the large enclosed garden, which has lovely views across the surrounding countryside and towards The Mendips and Glastonbury Tor. Swim some lengths in the outdoor swimming pool – heated from May to the end of September, but available for cold water swimming for the rest of the year. Then unwind on the patio where there’s furniture for al fresco dining and a fire pit for warmth – perfect as the sun goes down.
