Welcome to The Woodshed, a beautifully converted former timber store once belonging to the historic Buckland Mill estate. This peaceful retreat sits within 25 acres of pasture and woodland, offering a truly tranquil and remote escape surrounded by nature, wildlife, and woodland walks.
The estate was once a grand country mansion set within a thriving working farm. In 1954, it was divided into separate parcels and passed through various owners, until we acquired the estate's distinctive buildings and land in 2015. One of these buildings, The Woodshed, was originally little more than a single stone wall with timber framing and galvanized cladding. Following the granting of planning permission in late 2016, it was carefully and thoughtfully transformed into the serene and welcoming haven it is today. While echoes of its agricultural past remain, the refurbishment blends historic character with modern comfort. An adjoining former timber sawmill, now converted, is retained for the owners' occasional use.
Inside, The Woodshed offers an inviting open-plan ground floor designed for relaxed living. The sitting area features comfortable seating and a wood-burning stove, perfect for cozy evenings, while the dining space flows seamlessly into the modern, fully equipped kitchen, framed by an exposed stone wall. Underfloor heating runs throughout the ground floor, and a tiled entrance hallway provides practical space for coats, boots, and outdoor gear, with a downstairs cloakroom conveniently located just off this area. Adjacent to the cloakroom is a door to a small courtyard dedicated to a dog showering. Warm water makes this a fun experience for both dogs and humans!!
The staircase showcases beech and copper detailing, with timber sourced from the surrounding woodland, further connecting the interior to its natural setting.
Upstairs, there are two beautifully appointed bedrooms, each with its own en-suite shower room, offering comfort and privacy. Both rooms can be configured as twin singles or generous super-king beds.
Outside, parking is available directly in front of the barn. Guests are welcome to explore the wider 25 acres of shared pasture and woodland, rich in wildlife and ideal for peaceful walks. Should you be in a competitive mood, challenge your partner to a game of Boules. A bottle of nice red wine helps as does wearing a beret!!
The small lawn area immediately behind the barn is reserved for guests' private use. The setting is wonderfully quiet and secluded, yet not isolated, making it perfect for those seeking rest, nature, and space to unwind.
The Woodshed is also conveniently located close to RHS Garden Rosemoor, and approximately 7 miles from Great Torrington, 14 miles from the port town of Bideford, and around 20 miles from Bude on the North Cornwall coast. The surrounding area provides easy access to Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks, as well as charming coastal towns and villages including Lynton and Lynmouth, Ilfracombe, Clovelly, and Tintagel. A wide choice of beaches can be found nearby, such as Saunton, Woolacombe, Croyde, and Westward Ho!, alongside renowned walking and cycling routes including the Tarka Trail and the South West Coast Path.

The Woodshed is a great find, set in beautiful surroundings.
Perfectly appointed with everything you need for a quiet and peaceful family getaway. A wonderful base to either kick back and relaxventure out to explore the best that Devon has to offer. Our dogs were happy from the moment they arrived with the woods, large enclosed field and stream to run and play in.

A superb cottage, located in a remote area, surrounded by acres of fields and woodland.
Very peaceful and relaxing. We were there in December but the whole property was lovely and warm, heated by underfloor heating and a log burner downstairs, and radiators upstairs. It was very well equipped and beautifully decorated the beds were huge and very comfortable. We plan to return in the summer.
