This is the perfect base from which to explore the Cairngorms National Park with many outdoor activities practically on the doorstep – from hillwalking and cycling to fishing on the Dee to horse riding on the nearby Glen Tanar Estate or skiing at the Lecht. Although in the heart of the countryside, the pretty village of Aboyne is just a short drive away, where you will find plenty of interesting shops and eating places. In the summer months, enjoy the Highland Games which take place there and in other villages throughout the region, culminating in the Braemar Gathering in September. Golfers are well catered for, with a good course in Aboyne itself and many others within easy reach. Balmoral Castle is well worth a visit, with the grounds, gardens, and ballroom open to visitors in the summer months and the city of Aberdeen is 30 miles away with many varied activities and cultural attractions. From castles and whisky and gin distilleries to Stand-Up Paddleboarding down the Dee - there really is so much to do, see and explore in this scenic part of Scotland.
