About this property

Unique Large House, Great Views, Spa, Bass Pond, Canoe, and Trails. Pets OK!

Located in the center of the scenic Keweenaw Peninsula, yet is only a half mile from US-41. The South Portage Entry Lighthouse at Lake Superior is within a mile. This is the most scenic and snowy area of Michigan and abounds with trails, parks and waterways. No direct access to snowmobile or ORV trails from the house.

The historic twin cities of Houghton-Hancock are 12 miles away with two colleges, shops, museums, galleries, restaurants, microbreweries and a waterfront Chutes and Ladders park. The Ojibway Casino is 15 minutes south.

Firewood is not provided. The Jacuzzi spa is perfect for couples but not private for larger groups. The sauna burned down in spring 2023 and will not be rebuilt. Guests can not ride directly to snowmobile or ORV trails.

Mosquitoes and ticks roam the grounds in spring and summer. A flea and tick collar for the dog is a good idea. Cluster flies and Asian lady beetles can invade the house outside and inside at times. An included lightweight vacuum is the best control inside. Ask me if you have questions.

The house interior is charming and retains the character of the old farm house while thoroughly modernized. Classic old cabinet and room doors were retained as were some hardwood floors. Custom wood paneling is throughout the house including a cedar bathroom, a knotty pine front porch, and a master bedroom with rich black ash paneling. View stars or northern lights out the skylight over the bed. There is a fine sound system with upstairs and downstairs speakers that can be used with the TV or your phone. Fast fiber wireless.

Guests love all the special qualities of the house, the great views, the abundant wildlife, and the central location.

There are three bedrooms with queen beds, two family rooms, a sunroom with an oversized jetted spa tub, an insulated porch with a single bed, and two full baths, one with a shower and the other with a claw foot tub. There is a washer dryer in the basement. Outdoors there is a large deck on the house. Indoor amenities include a fireplace, premium streaming TV, stereo, DVD, dishwasher, games, puzzles, and quite a library for all ages.

The large windows upstairs and down offer ten-mile sunset vistas of the Keweenaw Ridge with almost no human development in sight. Walk in privacy through the fields or on the marked trail loop. Wildlife watching out the big windows can be great, lots of deer, recently some turkeys and large sandhill cranes walking through the fields. Raptors, herons, geese and ducks cruise over and visit the pond. Listen for owls at night. Winter is a special time since we average 20 feet of snow annually. Nearby are snowmobile trails and Alpine and Nordic skiing. Snowshoes, sleds, and sledding hills are provided.

A large spring-fed pond wraps around a small peninsula, canoe and lifejackets are provided. Catch and release smallmouth bass fishing. A fine place for kids to catch their first fish. Near the pond is a shaded picnic area. Have a campfire there and maybe you'll get lucky with the northern lights (hint, stay up late).

Open all four seasons, fall colors are amazing. Hunting is allowed on the property with my permission. There are 200 blueberry plants, wild strawberries in abundance, pears, raspberries, blackberries, and apples. Strawberry and blueberry U-pick farms are within walking distance down the quiet county road.

Guest Comments:

We just arrived home from our vacation and wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed your property. Everything was perfect. We found ourselves having difficulty leaving the farm for other activities. The dogs tried to convince us to stay forever, but they had to settle for an opportunity to someday return. Going to bed with a blanket of stars overhead and waking up to deer grazing in the backyard are luxuries not experienced in Cleveland. Lisa P.

We were able to watch a bobcat saunter through your back field one evening and several eagles around the pond in the mornings. D.H.

Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at your Keweenaw home. Watching the deer in the morning from the deck and then watching for shooting stars at night was big fun. The weather was near perfect all the while we were there so we were able to enjoy the great outdoors.
R.K.

Just dropping you an e-mail to thank you for letting us stay at your place in the Keweenaw. We had a great time, even though it was pretty hot that week. We had some pretty good meals at the Pilgrim River Restaurant in Chassell and the Harbor Haus in Copper Harbor. Also, with the warm weather we went swimming in Lake Superior a couple of times. Staying at your place was very relaxing and private. Enjoyed the pond, all the stars at night and a few good thunderstorms. Thanks, again. M.K.

Everything was good, LOTS OF SNOW!!!! D.E.

Just a quick note to let you know we very much enjoyed the home and property. We especially liked sitting on the deck, canoeing and 'playing' in the pond, and your skylight over the bed. We also appreciated the fact that we only did need to bring food to make the visit complete. Your cleaning and grounds-person do a great job! Our dogs have never had the chance to roam a large parcel or play in water and they didn't want to leave. As we were packing the car, one actually started walking down the driveway and refused to come back! D. P.

We really enjoyed staying at your house. It is so pretty to watch the sun set over the hills. I enjoyed walking your trails and the peace and quiet. The stars are so bright at night. I'm glad that we were able to rent it for a few days. I wish we could have stayed longer. B.B.

We did have a great time. We loved the farm and the house. Very peaceful and great views in every direction. The stars through the skylight over the bed were a real highlight.

The house was in great shape and everything worked fine. My wife loved the claw-foot bath tub upstairs and she said you should mention it on your web site.

The deer loved the apples from the trees in the backyard. Every evening at the same time they would come by to munch on some. That was a nice treat.

We had a great time, enjoyed the pond, canoe, fire pit (every night we had a little bonfire and our twins had a ball), and the house was great, too. A.Z.

Just wanted to let you know we had a fantastic time at your home. It was absolutely beautiful there with the views. The house was fabulous and only took a very short time for us to feel right at home. Thanks for everything and we hope we can return next year. It was probably our best trip to the U.P. S.N.

We had a wonderful time at the house! It's so great. The house has such a comfortable feel that we really had a relaxing vacation (just what we needed). Can't think of any suggestions, everything was perfect! Thanks again, Y.B.

UP Baby!
We had a great experience at this property. Lots of outdoors to explore . Very natural setting that is also close to Houghton. Can't wait to get back there next winter for Carnival. Hoping there is more snow! House was very comfortable and clean. Well stocked kitchen with all needed appliances. Would love to see the property in the other 3 seasons.

Great time
The house was as advertised. We really enjoyed the setting and being out of town but close to be able to explore and easily visit with my son at MTU. We enjoyed the trails and being able to walk around the property. Loved being able to bring our dogs with us!!
