Everything is just wonderful .The view is absolutely beautiful, and the place has everything you could possibly need. The kitchen is perfect for cooking, thereās a cozy fireplace with no need to worry about firewood, a fun popcorn machine, and even a telescope for stargazing. Maddie was an excellent host. She was so nice and we got to meet her at the property when we arrived. She was so kind and made special arrangements for my special needs sonās 16th birthday. It was a wonderful stay. We loved the area, all the things to do at the house. Perfect amount of space. We will be back for sure!
This was our second time staying and the place is absolutely amazing. However, itās the hospitality of the owners that makes this a top destination for us. I highly recommend this place.

Would love to see you all again next year!
All the best to your family. Keep in touch!š·
Well organized and clean. Most places you stop at the grocery store and you never what you need. Oil, sugar, etc. but we needed very little. They had snacks, movies, popcorn popper. Great host and a beautiful place.

I do supply many things and I think from here on out I will make sure to let my guests know so they need not have to buy extra things. I supply all the essential and more as you know I have a full kitchen. š

We had an absolutely wonderful stay and canāt recommend this home enough. The house was cozy, clean, and had the perfect rustic charm that made it feel like a true mountain getaway. The viewsāespecially at nightāwere breathtaking and something weāll never forget.Madeline was an incredible host. Before our trip, she reached out to ask what kinds of drinks our kids liked, which was such a thoughtful touch. We stayed over Christmas break, and she truly went above and beyondāthere was a beautifully decorated Christmas tree waiting for us and she even made a keepsake ornament for our family. That small but meaningful gesture made us feel genuinely welcomed and at home. The Westcliffe area itself is beautiful and peaceful. We loved exploring the local shops, and a special shoutout to the Dutch Amish Marketāsuch a great spot! This was one of those stays that creates lasting family memories. We would absolutely love to come back and stay here again. Thank you, Madeline, for making our holiday so special!

Thank you for the wonderful compliments!
You all left the house immaculate and for going above and beyond. You left me little to clean.
It was my pleasure to make your stay memorable since it too was Christmas. Tried to leave a little of that magic that comes with that time of year.
Glad to hear you visited the Dutch Deli and more. Its my go to for sandwiches when I am up there.
Thank you again for being fantastic guests and I would love to host you and your family again in the future.
Happy New Year make it bring lots of good Health and Happiness! š

We came to the Westcliffe area to celebrate our anniversary. Property is located near plenty of hiking trails and well within driving distance to town. There is also enough seclusion for lounging around. Maddie is a great host. Between the care she gives the property, the little things she leaves around for your use, and the gift she left for our anniversary, you can tell she cares about your stay. Thanks for sharing your property with us!

Fantastic home, with a ton of little extras! We enjoyed the humming birds and wildlife wondering through the property. It was very quiet. I would recommend this to anyone. Just know, all sleeping areas are open to the living area, no secrets! See you next time.

This is a sweet little home on the side of a mountain. Visits from hummingbirds and deer were frequent events. Maddie left wonderful touches all over the home. We were on a working trip but my daughter inlaw took morning walks at the trail and the scenery is simply stunning. Thank you Maddie for sharing your beautiful home with us!

Beautiful home. Great views and privacy. No noise. My family loved the home. It felt warm cozy and relaxing. The owners were great and made sure the home was prepared for a memorable stay. I would definitely return to this home again.
What a stunning house and a fantastic location. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the house. Walking in to the incredibly high ceilings made it seem like a lodge from the movies! The house was warm (even when it was snowing), comfortable, and full of everything you need to relax. We really appreciated the snacks provided too, and having laundry was very helpful.
I wouldn't hesitate recommending this fantastic place.

We just loved this house and the hostess!!! She is so accomodating and stocks the house with all kinds of extras. The location is beautiful and the house warmly and beautifully decorated. It is also spotlessly clean. The outdoor yard a beautiful place to watch the stars. The pictures dont do it any justice. We will return for many more visits when we travel to Westcliff

This place was amazing. It is away from the bustle of town yet within a few minutes drive to Westcliffe. We were frequented by deer, rabbits, and even some turkeys. We did some hiking which was close by and spent lots of time playing inside and outside games. We had no complaints about the house or the view and the owner was easy to contact and communicate with. This was our first time using VRBO and Mrs. Madeleine made it easy to do. We will definitely be coming back.

I am a bit loss for words to describe our recent stay at Maddieās cottage. We have had a hectic year and needed a place to get away and reconnect again. From my first encounter with Maddie her caring and genuine warmth was evident. She went the extra mile to help us feel at home at her lovely retreat. Her eye to detail and equipping the cottage with more than the necessary meant we did not really need to leave. We enjoyed the hikes around the cottage and spent hours gazing at the skies. I would not hesitate in recommending this piece of heaven.

Thank you so much for your awesome review! Nico and family were great guests, and he did an excellent job in reaching in communicating. Unfortunately, upon my review of him I accidently hit 4 * instead of 5* on communication. I apologize for the mistake. I enjoyed making my place special for you all. Good to hear it removed the stress in your life and for all to enjoy during the Christmas season. I wanted you all to relax and feel the presence of the serenity that the Sangre Mountains brings. I would definitely love to host and open my home to you and your family again. Looking forward to your return in the future. Blessings and all best to you and your family :)
My friend and I had the pleasure of booking your cozy mountain resort while attending a weekend Women in Rotary retreat just five miles awayāand what a gem we discovered!Though our days were packed with retreat activities, the moments we spent at your property were pure bliss. The hospitality extended to us far exceeded any rental experience we've ever had. Every detail was thoughtfully consideredāfrom the pristine cleanliness to the inviting comfort of each space. It felt less like a rental and more like a warm embrace after a long day.We didnāt get to spend nearly enough time enjoying the home itself, but that only gives me a reason to return⦠this time, just for me. Whether itās the peaceful mountain views, the cozy ambiance, or the sense of serenity that lingers in every room, your retreat is a place Iāll be dreaming about until I can come back.Thank you for creating such a special haven. It truly made our weekend unforgettable.P.S. don't let the exterior fool you. This is truly a cozy mountain get away.

This area of Colorado is beautiful, and this house is the perfect place to view the grandeur of nature. The deck surrounding the home provides beautiful views from every direction and there are many places to sit and enjoy the great outdoors. Inside the home, every window frames the glorious scenery outside. After a great nightās sleep on the comfortable mattress, the gorgeous sunrise from the master bedroom window was a pleasant surprise. When it rains the huge living room windows continue to show off nature at her best. The inside of the home was comfortable and cozy; it was a very welcoming environment and felt more like a private home than any Iāve stayed in before. You can see and feel the attention to detail in the decor as well as in the cleanliness of the home. The privacy and quietness of this location is wonderful. As for the host, Maddie goes above and beyond. It is clear she loves her home and cares about the comfort of her guests. The home is outstanding and the amenities are perfect. Outside there are tables, an umbrella, benches and chairs for viewing, and a hammock amongst a small grove of aspen trees. There are chaise lounges for viewing the stars. Iāve never seen the stars blanket the sky from horizon to horizon and understand why this area is considered a dark sky community. Iād like to thank Maddie for being patient and understanding with me when a slight problem came up when booking. We highly recommend this home and will be back again!

About the host
Hosted by Madeleine Johnson
Hello, I would like to introduce myself. I am Maddie and my partner, J.D. who has joined me in this new chapter in our lives in sharing this wonderful cozy mountain home. We live in Florence, CO. only fifty-five minutes away. Since my move down here from south Denver in 2020, I am originally from Oklahoma, born and raised but now I have been living in CO. for twenty-five years. At one time Colorado felt like it was my second home as every summer my family spent two weeks here camping, jeeping and exploring Colorado. Ever since youth I fell in love with this state. I attribute this to my dad who taught me to appreciate the wonders of the outdoors. In 2016 I had come to know Westcliffe, surprisingly an area I had never been to. This time it was my partner JD who introduced me to its surroundings. I was in awe with how quaint the historical town of Westcliffe was and how main street ended with the beautiful Sangre De Cristo Mountain range starring right at you. I always had dreams of finding a place in the mountains and it was here I found this hidden gem, not as exposed in its location unlike other places in Colorado. Over the last few years, we have been replacing and working hard on days off to make this our mountain home. It's been an escape from the daily grind of work and recharges us as it brings serenity back into our lives. By sharing this mountain home, we hope it will bring to you many memories and may it bring serenity to you as it does for us.
Why they chose this property
This property is in a wonderful location surrounded with 360 views of the beautiful Sangre De Cristo Mountain range, the valley floor of Westcliffe and the Wet Mountains. For the lovers of hiking, you are only 1/2 mile from the National Forest with a variety of trails from easy to challenging hikes leading to lakes, waterfalls, and scenic overlooks. Two trails in this area are the Commanche and Venerable trailhead's which connect to the Rainbow Trail which is > 100 miles long. "If you don't Climb the Mountain, You can't See the View". This cozy home's unique hexagonal design gives you ample views of the mountains and the valley below whether inside or outside on the wrap around deck. Sit on the relaxing deck at 8,700 feet to view nature, feel the warmth of the sun, listen to the sound of Venerable Creek in the far distance during the early months of the snow run off and watch the hummingbirds dive bomb each other if you choose to put out nectar. Nestled away back from the road, read a book in the hammock amongst the trees of Pine, Aspen and Mountain Oaks. Cook on the grill and have a seat at the picnic table w/ umbrella while you eat. There is also a horseshoe pit at the end of the driveway. Inside feel the welcoming of the large cozy living room and the twenty-five-foot fireplace leading up to the Aspen ceiling. Flat screen T.V. on the mantel with surround sound. Four full large windows for viewing above and below. Sofa bed with memory foam mattress. Full kitchen, washer and dryer off kitchen in open pantry room. Many amenities. Quiet open sitting room off the living area with futon, desk and half bathroom. Privacy blackout curtains as this could be a sleeping area as well. Upstairs two loft bedrooms with privacy blackout curtains, Jack and Jill full bathroom. Flat screen T.V. in main bedroom. Westcliffe is known for its Dark Sky. The night sky is amazing on a clear night. At the end of the day gaze up at the stars inside or outside and find your falling star.
What makes this property unique
This mountain home's benefits are all about its location. At the end of the day this is a great location to come back to after a day of adventures such as climbing one of the 14rs,13rs, hiking one of the many trails, jeeping, fishing, horseback riding and river rafting. The Arkansas River is only 40 minutes away. Try out the Alpine Lodge Restaurant and bar just a 1/2 mile up the road or a day in historical Westcliffe only 15 minutes away to shopping, gifts shops, art gallery, restaurants, eating ice cream, stop by the old jail house, or a concert in the park. Westcliffe has many additional events happening during the summer. I will provide maps of the state of Colorado, trails of the Sangre De Cristo and Wet Mountains, info on our Dark Sky and brochures of events in my home. Check them out while here. Westcliffe is only 3 hours SW of Denver. If it is nature you want to see, seek adventure, relaxation or be a star gazer you will love exploring all that Westcliffe and its surrounding area has to offer.
Please Note: This properties elevation is at 8,700 feet and is wonderful relaxing place to escape from it all. However, if guests suffer from altitude - related health issues this location may not be appropriate.
