About this property

Booking for 2026. Come visit!

For over 60 years Hawthorn Cottage has welcomed guests to historic Somesville and Acadia National Park. Hawthorn Cottage shares with our home and Juniper Cottage two beautifully landscaped acres fringed with wild blueberry bushes. The lawn is open and sunny, with gardens and shade trees near the cottage and a shaded deck for observing Somesville's resident eagles and ospreys. You can walk to our library, repertory theater, museum, to the ocean, or to Somes Pond for a swim. Rental weeks run Saturday to Saturday, except for options in fall.

Ken and I are retired art teacher and theater costume designer. We have owned Hawthorn Cottage since 1980, taking over from Chauncey Somes, whose ancestors settled the island. We have especially enjoyed sharing our love of Mount Desert Island and Acadia with our guests all these years. We hope you will join our large number of returning guests in savoring the best of Maine.
