Tuckasegee NC Waterfall Hideaway Mountain Cabin
The cabin is very secluded at the end of the road and very quiet. The cabin was perfect for the perfect size for the two of us. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to make our meals. It was rainy and cold when we were there, so it was nice to have the outdoor fireplace and the indoor heat as well. Plenty of blankets and throws too.
Here are issues we had that hopefully can be addressed or improved for the next time. Upon arrival, the coffee maker still had coffee grounds/filter in the unit. The cleaning staff missed that one. Also, no laundry detergent was available. We went to Silva to the Sundog office and they were very nice to give us the detergent and extra supplies as well. There were no written directions provided on how to use the outdoor or indoor fireplace. We only used the outdoor fireplace and we were able to get help when we called Sundog management company.
The bed frame in the main bedroom sits above the mattress, so getting out of the bed was painful on the legs. If the mattress was above the bedrail, it would be more comfortable. The mattress in the booking photos is much higher and normal height over the side rails. So the booking photos do not match the existing bed.
The TV in the living room on the main level is at a horrible angle for watching TV. If it were my cabin, I would make the downstairs the TV room and just leave the room around the wood stove a seating/gathering area. After looking at the booking photos, the living room furniture was set up different than our stay. the couch was shoved up next to the wood stove which made getting outside to the deck really awkward. We did not want to move the furniture so that set up really needs be changed for the next guests.
During our stay a tree fell down in the road and after calling the Sundog Management team, they notified the HOA, and it was moved off the road in 24 hours. The nearest town to get supplies, shop, dine was in Silva which is 50 minutes to an hour away so we had to make sure we got home before dark because it is very dark in the forest.
The bar stools in the kitchen are too high for the counter. We could not sit at the counter at all.
Overall, our stay was nice. With that being said, little details could make this cabin a better experience for the next stay.
