About the Area
Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical-drop waterfall in Yosemite) and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing. Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley. Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station. The Redwoods in Yosemite has over 110 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer, and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Three stars for three good things
A star each for being in the park, a nice deck and a great shower. The place was dark and gloomy with some needs in the kitchen. No toaster and no dish soap that should be standard without the dishwasher. There was a sponge which makes me wonder how clean the dishes were left in the past. Disappointed.

Squirrel's Nest
I want to start with- We did enjoy our stay and the activities the area had. The deck was very nice, and the bathroom was clean and comfortable. We were disappointed with the quality and cleanliness of the cabin. The carpet was very dirty, the bedspread and couch were as well. There was no A/C and the back screen door was broken. Very few kitchen items were provided. We left a day early to find better accommodations. I would not recommend staying here.

We thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the cabin. All of our cabins are privately owned and everything inside of each cabin is picked by the owners themselves. We will pass this onto our management team for review. If you would like to come back and stay with us again, we would love to help match you with the cabin that will best fit your needs! -The Redwoods In Yosemite Team

Disappointed
We don't mind rustic, but this cabin is really outdated and poorly-equipped. The furniture is sagging and uncomfortable, the carpet is old and felt dirty, and the kitchen utensils are dull. We spent one very chilly night without heat, reported it in the morning and took off for the day, but maintenance didn't come until we called 3 more times after returning that evening. (It was just the pilot light). The last day we had no hot water, which we reported as we left town, hoping they'll fix it for the next renter. We did make use of the gas grill and the fireplace. The king bed is comfy and the TV and internet was better than expected. The community is cozy and quiet and the two nearby markets are well-stocked. The park is fabulous, but next time I'd stay in Yosemite Valley. Overall, we found the cabin disappointing. We use both Airbnb and VRBO extensively, and this stay ranks near the bottom.
During my recent two-night stay at the cabin, I found it to possess a rustic charm reflective of its age. However, there were notable drawbacks that impacted my overall experience. Firstly, the heater in the bedroom appeared antiquated and cumbersome to operate, which deterred us from attempting to use it. This aspect detracted from the comfort and convenience I typically seek during accommodations. Additionally, unlike previous experiences with Airbnb rentals, I encountered silly clean-up requirements. While I naturally adhere to cleanliness standards and always leave spaces tidy, the explicit instruction to remove trash felt unnecessary and somewhat incongruous with the hospitality norms I've come to expect. Such nuances made me appreciate the simplicity of hotel stays.
Despite these shortcomings, the cabin did exude a cozy ambiance, which was a redeeming quality. However, considering the price point, I'm hesitant to book again in the future. In summary, while the cabin offered a quaint retreat, the outdated amenities and unconventional cleaning guidelines left me to reconsider its value proposition for future stays.
We were able to check in 20 minutes early, which was nice due to we were both working remotely! The wifi was perfect! The cabin's highlight is the fireplace and unlimited firewood, it was quite cold so it was so nice to have a wonderful fire every evening. The location is beautiful, every window looks into woods, or at another log cabin. There is a small market in walking distance which we frequented.
