About this property
Saint George Lake, Charming Waterfront Cottage
Liberty Maine Cottage is a charming, year round home located on the shores of Lake St. George in Liberty, Maine. The cottage sleeps four people comfortably in 2 separate bedrooms. There is a living room, a large fully equipped kitchen and dining area a mud room and full bath. The waterside wrap around 400 sf deck provides additional space for outdoor relaxation and living. Bed linens and towels are provided. A rowboat, canoe and (3) kayaks are available to use. This lovely cottage is situated on 150 ft. of water frontage and 40 ft. from the water’s edge. Lake St. George is a beautiful spring fed crystal clear 1,017 acre pristine mountain lake 500 feet above sea level and is known for excellent fishing and its large population of loons. The Town of Liberty is 15 miles from the coast and 25 miles from the state capital. Liberty is a central location for visiting nationally known tourist attractions such as Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, Belfast, Camden, Rockland and Boothbay Harbor.
A fish jumps out of the still clear waters while jeweled dragonflies hover, a turtle suns itself on a nearby rock, the calls of the loons echo across the lake. You are relaxed and enjoying a good book as you lay on the chaise lounge which is on the dock just inches above the water…. You move the boat into the shadow of an overhanging tree and cast your line near a protruding rock. Then all of the sudden a 3lb Small-mouth bass inhales your offering and makes a quick turn and darts to get away, the bass leaps out of the water and shakes its head trying to throw the hook loose…. You spent some of the morning in the quaint Maine coastal town shopping, you go to the farmers market, where you were able to pick up locally made/grown bread, cheese organic produce and fresh fish for tonight’s dinner. On the way back to the cottage you stop and pick up some adult beverages at a local winery and ….. You spend a glorious sunny summer afternoon paddling kayaks around out in the big lake. You stop at Blueberry Island for a late afternoon swim in the crystal clear, cool water it’s so refreshing and invigorating. You pick a few handfuls of wild blueberries and you eat some now and place rest in a bag to save for tomorrow’s breakfast….. You are sitting on the deck in the early evening and as the sun sets it creates a brilliant lighting effect against the trees on the opposite shore line, which then reflects upon the water creating an intoxicating display of colors and images….. The evenings concert is just beginning first you hear the spring peepers in the background, and then the birds and insects create the rhythm with an assortment of chirping. Then the main performers start, although you never know who is going to show up or where they will be singing from, sometimes upstream, sometimes downstream, sometimes both. The Green, Wood and Tree frogs provide choruses of a medley of moaning, grunting, and banjo like plucking sounds while the Bull frog’s repetitive low baritone grunts sound like a tuba in the background keeping the beat and with a occasional cry from a loon it is truly nature’s symphony …. You then pick up you drink to head inside to prepare your dinner with the fresh ingredients that you picked up earlier in the day while you hum Louis Armstrong’s ‘What a Wonderful World'……. After dinner and before you retire for the night, you turn off all the house lights and go out to the deck. You stand there and look up at the night’s sky and see more stars then you could ever imagine. You then find the North Star and begin trying to identify the constellations….
These are the sights, sounds and opportunities that welcome you at this peaceful waterfront property.

The lake cottage was lovely. Everything was clean and tidy. Beautiful and peaceful location! Well stocked kitchen was great for cooking! We enjoyed the kayaks and used them each morning.
Cottage was very nice and very clean. Great place for relaxation and boating. However, the location was not ideal for swimming as the cottage faces an inlet off the pond and there is too much vegetation in the water.

Thank you for your review.
Wish I had known of your desire to swim I could of provided you with information about swimming beaches in the area.
Spectacular home. The house was very relaxing, comfortable, organized and felt like home away from home. Check in and out were both very easy and seamless. Very convenient location with hiking, paddle boarding and kayaking on Lake St. George, LStG brewery, not to mention Belfast, Rockland, Rockport and Booth Bay Harbors all within 1 hour. Would definitely stay at this camp again! Fantastic stay. Maine never disappoints! The way life should be!
It was the perfect spot to relax and unwind. Very private with access to the Little Pond and Lake St. George! Loved all the boat options. Teens loved fishing. I can see why so many people go back!

So happy you found Liberty Cottage peaceful and relaxing.
This was our second stay in Liberty cottage and it was just as enjoyable as we remembered. Very quiet, peaceful location close enough to amenities. Took walks around the neighborhood daily and made use of the boat for fishing.

I am so glad you enjoyed your stay at our cottage. Thank you for your support. I hope you will return again.
Most beautiful lake to kayak on. A very nice camp. Excellent communication with host. When a question or concern came up, the host quickly responded, and remedied the concern. I would bring your own bedding, all else the camp supplies.
Everything was as described. Well thought-out & not cluttered or cutesy. The setting was quiet & lovely. Especially appreciated the 3 kayaks & big, well equipped kitchen. & proximity to John's great strawberry/rhubarb ice cream.
Thank you for a restful vacation.

So happy you enjoyed your stay and we’re satisfied with the cottage. I, too, love John’s strawberry rhubarb ice cream, especially on a piece of home made rhubarb pie. Hope you decide to come again.
Our week in Michelle’s cabin was wonderful. The house is cozy, quiet and VERY well stocked with everything we needed. Best kitchen in a rental I’ve ever seen! I loved the landscaping and the calming muted colors used in the interior. Just the best environment to unwind. We swam, boated around the lake and hiked. The blueberries on the top of Haystack Mountain, coupled with the views, made for an ideal hike. I can understand why many folks have returned to this spot year after year. We hope to be back next year! Thank you!!

Dear Louise,
I was notified by “VRBO” that you wrote a review of our cottage, and it is being posted on the web page. I am very pleased that you took the time to write such a wonderful review and would like to thank you.
I would also like to thank you for being great guests and treating the cottage as if it was your own. Hopefully you will return next year and following years to come.
Best wishes,
Michelle
This house had everything I could have wanted and more. Clean and comfortable!
Fifth time in Maine for me over the past four years and this was by far the best value I’ve had. Has a lot of amenities than many more expensive listings can’t match.
I loved the kayaks and the custom dock that made getting in and out a breeze. Didn’t use the bigger boats, but this house is very well stocked both inside and out.
A lot of useful tips in the listing/guide and particularly enjoyed Haystack mountain and the local brewery.
Long story short, I’m looking to come back next year!

Thank you for your five star review. It was very rewarding to read your comments. I appreciate all that you wrote.
We have a family cabin on the adjacent pond, so we are very familiar with the area. Liberty is a pleasant little Main town, well worth visiting. Liberty Tool, Liberty Graphics, and John's Ice Cream are worth your time. The cabin is spacious, has an updated bathroom, ceiling fans in every room, plus an AC in the primary room. The well water is excellent, and for those who understand cabin life, that is not always the case. The property is flat, the dock is large and the wraparound deck is perfect for relaxing. Lots of early morning light helps usher in a day of fun. Cabin is 5mns from modern gas station and all the aforementioned Liberty excursions. China Hannafords and Belfast are 17 mns in opposite directions, and Camden is 35mns away. Tobey's, a roadside grocery store, has very good pizza and is 14 mns down Rt. 3Thank you for a wonderful vacation!
Liberty is off the beaten path, but we were just a short drive from busier locations. Our favorite part was the kayaking. We had a lovely time.
The only minor drawback was getting up early on the last day to wash the sheets and towels by ten.
Loved the location. It was quite and the fishing was good. We were close enough to Camden and boothbay harbor to make it a relaxing day of site seeing. Also, was very close to Sweetgrass winery and distillery.
Liberty cottage is in an excellent spot. Quiet and private. Nice area to take a walk.
Access to a boat made this an exceptional trip for my husband. He loves to spend and spent all day on the lake.
The house itself is great for 2 of us. It does have a kitchen floor that slants noticeably to the front of the house. Everything in working order. I could not get the WiFi password to work but that’s minor. I just relaxed and did no work!!
Very nice cottage, fully equipped and very peaceful, with a large kitchen area. Internet access and wifi are fine, and the kitchen has everything we needed.
The dock is ideal for launching the kayaks, which we used a lot, and the small lagoon with lily pads was an excellent launch point. The larger lake ("Little Pond") is just around the corner, and at the far end there's a channel into St. George Lake, which is gorgeous on a sunny day.
The Lake St. George Brewery, just a few miles away, is excellent, and close to several other essentials such as John's Ice Cream.
This is our third year and signed up for number four already!
Very relaxing and quiet property in a friendly summer neighborhood. It is situated on somewhat shallow and quiet outlet of the lake. Very spacious front yard, canoe, kayaks and aluminum boat for a small outboard if you wish.
The cogttage is perfect for a couple or small family. It is well laid out and I challenge you to need something the cottage does have already available.
Go and enjoy yourself and remember to relax and watch nature passby!
Very much enjoyed our week on the lake here. The cabin had everything we needed, including kitchen staples. Most rentals don't have much, but the kitchen had spices, sugar, oil etc, things you might need only a little of and would be forced otherwise to purchase an entire container of just for your stay. We made daily use of the kayaks which is a huge benefit and you can launch directly from the property into the lake. It was very quiet too. Terry was very friendly and provided helpful info on the area (e.g. hiking and restaurants).
This is a very tidy and comfortable cabin right on an inlet of St. George's Lake with great kayaking and fishing opportunities. Sitting on the porch overlooking the water in the afternoon was such a relaxing experience. The owners are extremely responsive and cooperative. A very good experience!
Very comfortable cottage. Outside was well groomed, inside was clean and the furniture was comfortable to sit in. Didn't get to meet the owners personally, but had communication via email and once on the phone. Very pleasant and helpful.
Moving into Liberty Cottage was super easy b/c a lot of thought had been put into where hooks were needed, kitchen equipment, etc. Very comfortable & easy. The porch was great for reading in the shade in the morning & sun in the afternoon. Kayaking into the outlet & Little St George lake was a quiet pleasure. The lake was full of fish activity easily viewed from the kayaks and snorkeling.
The cottage is only steps away from the water and the owners have very thoughtfully provided a dock designed for kayakers as well as sunbathing. The cottage fronts the lake outlet which is shallow, quiet and full of fish life. We saw turtles, an eagle fly by and a community of turkey vultures would soar over head every evening on their way to roosting for the night.
Overall this cottage is better thought out than any place we have ever stayed, and most relaxing. If you want you can also hike nearby or easily take a drive to the coast for lobster or fried clams. We have already re-booked for next year!

This property is located on a quiet lagoon off of a beautiful clear-water lake with fantastic fishing. The bullfrogs’ incessant croaking was the only sound at night lulling you to sleep . We really enjoyed our stay at this cottage. Terry and Michelle did a fine job organizing our stay and orienting us to the surrounding area.
Very nice and recently renovated. Excellent bathroom/shower. All items needed were available.

We are sixty somethings that came to the Midcoast area in 1971, fell in love with people, place and lifestyle and have been coming back ever since. We garden, do projects around the house, read, hike, paddle, fish, swim, travel, sight-see, go antiquing, shop for art and hand made items and cook from scratch with local fresh ingredients.
