Rustic Clam, a family friendly and pet friendly cabin with fenced in back yard.
Please note: The cabin was recently re-stained gray in 2024. You may see photos from prior years as well as a few updated images reflecting the current look.
Rustic Clam is a cozy and comfortable 3-bedroom, 1-bath log vacation cabin nestled on the wooded shores of Lower Clam Lake, offering a true Northwoods experience in the heart of the Chequamegon National Forest. At this location, the West Fork of the Chippewa River flows out of Lower Clam Lake over a historic logging-era rock dam, creating a peaceful and scenic setting.
The cabin features a welcoming deck and a spacious yard overlooking the lake, complete with a fire pit, grill, twinkle lights, patio furniture, benches around the fire pit, and a picnic table—perfect for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors. In 2022, we added brand-new living room furniture, a new dock, and a chain-link fence in the backyard. Since purchasing the cabin in 2018, we’ve made several additional upgrades, including new beds on the lower level, a futon, new flooring throughout, and updated appliances.
Guests have access to a private dock, along with a rowboat, canoe, and newer pedal boat included with the rental. You may also launch your own boat from the side of the property, which provides easy access to our private dock.
Rustic Clam is a very quiet property and includes a charming footbridge that crosses the mouth of the Chippewa River and leads to a neighboring property. The gentle sound of flowing water can be heard from the cabin, and if you open the window in the back bedroom, you may fall asleep to this peaceful natural soundtrack. The cabin sits on a small back bay that opens into Lower Clam Lake. Near the dock is a small sandy/gravel area, ideal for kids and wading. While we personally don’t swim much (fish tend to make an appearance ), many guests enjoy floating in the calm back bay, and swimming is occasionally seen in the main lake as well. The lake is quiet with minimal water traffic.
This red pine log cabin includes a living room, fully equipped kitchen, and full bathroom with tub/shower. There are two main-floor bedrooms—one with a queen bed and one with a full bed—as well as a loft bedroom featuring a twin bed and futon that sleeps two. The living room offers a smart TV, a retro wood-burning fireplace, and a selection of games, books, and magazines for your enjoyment. The kitchen is fully stocked and includes a microwave, gas stove, full-size refrigerator, coffee maker, crock pot, toaster, dishes, pots, pans, and most essentials you’ll need during your stay.
Linens are provided; however, towels are not included, so please plan to bring your own.
Lower Clam Lake is known for excellent fishing, including walleye, musky, crappie, and bluegill, as well as generally calm waters for kayaking, boating, and relaxing. Located within the Chequamegon National Forest, the area offers easy access to snowmobile, ATV, skiing, hiking, and biking trails, along with abundant wildlife and breathtaking fall colors. Clam Lake is also proudly known as the Elk Capital of Wisconsin, and it’s common to spot these majestic animals during your stay.
The town of Clam Lake features several bars, restaurants, and a convenience store/gas station, while the surrounding area is home to classic Wisconsin supper clubs and other great dining options.
We are pet-friendly and welcome well-behaved dogs. The fenced backyard provides a safe space for your furry friends and small children. Please be responsible by picking up after your pets and keeping them leashed when outside the fenced area. The surrounding forest is vast, and we want to ensure your pet’s safety as well as maintain respect for neighboring cabins and homes.

My husband and I stayed for a weekend in August with our two dogs and it was the perfect weekend away. The cabin is beautifully done and very welcoming. Having the fenced in backyard for the dogs was the real win for us, I’d highly recommend staying here, my husband and I would book again in a heartbeat.
We had a great stay! The cabin is very nice. Beds were comfy. Everyone in the area was helpful with fishing tips. Our only complaint would be there is no air conditioning only fans.
This was the perfect location for a relaxing few days away. It was a great home base for our day trips up to Bayfield, Copper Falls, and Lake Namakogan for swimming. The back yard made for an excellent place to relax around a fire after the day’s activities. The cabin was clean and well equipped for our stay. Would recommend for anyone looking to spend a peaceful long weekend away!

Thank you Samantha. I hope you had a wonderful time with your friend. It looks like you visited all my favorite places!
This is a beautiful vacation spot! It is located on a back bay of Lower Clam Lake. There is a footbridge going over a small waterfall in the back of the property. I went to sleep to the sound of the waterfall every night, it was heavenly! It was a relatively quiet lake, with minimal motorboat traffic. That was ideal for us, since we kayaked and swam every day. A significant part of the lakeshore was uninhabited, which was ideal for spotting wildlife - eagles, loons, great blue heron, and lots of other birds. The kitchen is very well stocked, good quality cookware. Communication with the host was excellent. I highly recommend this property! All 6 of us had an amazing week!
The cabin is located in a nice peaceful area. It has a great private dock & the ease of launching our kayaks was wonderful. This cozy little cabin had all of the amenities a person could want or need. Communication from the host was great, also. They were very helpful with directions to the cabin once we got to the area & about other things.
Definately a nice peaceful, relaxing stay.

Thank you for reviewing our cabin. I'm so happy to hear that you had a nice time and would love to have you back.
Great cabin! Fit 4 adults and 2 kids comfortably. We used the paddle boat, canoe, and row boat. The kids had a blast catching pan fish right from the dock. The darn nothern pike stole my lure though ;) Cabin did have fans, but we brought a few extra to supplement.Owner was very responsive when we had questions. Neighbors were also lovely people.Power went off twice, but that was on the power company. Neighbors let us know theirs was off too and the eta the power company gave.
Was a very enjoyable weekend. Check in was easy, cabin was as described. The fence was great for our little dog. Local restaurants were close. The highlight was the location on the lake. Very calm little bay with a constant calming sound of water flowing into a river.

We brought our in-laws for a vacation over the 4th of July with our 2 dogs and had a fantastic time! The cabin is set up perfectly for dogs. The fenced in back yard around the firepit area makes it so relaxing. It is a beautiful property and thr walk bridge is very charming. Made some wonderful memories!

We had an absolute blast at this property! It was a little small for us 5 plus our two large dogs but we made it work and loved being able to have access to the lake to fish or kayak whenever we wanted! The hosts were amazing and answered every question I threw their way. We also got to ride the nearby trails and those were FUN!
10/10 recommend this place! It was quite a hike for us (8-9 hour drive) but worth it!

Thank you for the review and the kind words about our cabin. We are so happy you enjoyed yourselves and you made the long trek home safe n sound:)
We had a fabulous time at the cabin! It was rustic enough to feel like a cabin, but cozy enough to feel like glamping. The protected lake cove was the best. We could take the paddle boat around and float on the floaties since the cove was calmer than the big lake. The dogs loved it too! It was ideal to let the dogs swim and then have the fenced in yard for them to dry off in. Family time was easy, playing games, swimming, and taking day trips to nearby towns. We loved it!
Had one small issue. As soon as I contacted the home owner she bent over backwards to make it right. Found her to be a lovely hostess and enjoyed our stay. We also saw elk and caught a couple nice muskies from the lake. Thank you for an incredible get away.
Great access to lower clam lake via the small fishing boat!
Loved the backyard area for our furbabies!
The large log above the stairs that seems to be an issue to many, was not an issue for our family whatsoever!
Enjoyed all the windows in the house to be able to get fresh air. However, if you are looking for complete seclusion and peace and quiet during the day, this may not be the area for you, but it definitely is at night!
Very cute, quaint place and we definitely enjoyed our time there!

Adorable cabin! Felt like home. Quiet location. Wasn't able to enjoy swimming in the lake too much due to cold weather, so was grateful for Netflix for the little ones! Cabin was fully stocked with everything we needed for our stay. EXTREMELY comfortable beds!!! The book Julie has that gives ideas and locations for things to do was very handy. Kids did a lot of hiking, went into Hayward for a day, dining options were helpful also. Overall, the accommodations were fantastic and VERY clean! Our much needed family vacation was a success! Thank you so very much Julie!
My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Rustic Clam. It is a true log cabin with all the amenities. It has everything you need for relaxing time in the north woods. We had our dog with and there are very few properties with a fenced in yard, allowing him to roam around freely. This was a key perk for us. The immediate access to the lake, available row and pedal boats and pier make lake access simple. We kayaked, fished, swam, grilled out and had campfires. A truly wonderful experience.

Why they chose this property
We loved the charm of owning a log cabin. We liked the quiet lake and the waterfall out back. We looked at several properties and knew the minute we walked in that this was going to be our new cabin.
What makes this property unique
Since our purchase, we have made several updates with new furniture, furnishings, bedding, beds, appliances, dock, well, etc. We are both dog loving people and welcome you bringing your dog(s). The 2 most unique things about our cabin that drew us to it is the footbridge and rushing water that you can hear from the cabin as well as the cool retro fireplace. We also provide a gift basket unique to the people who are staying so please do share about yourselves to us. We hope you enjoy your stay.
