"Spoon Rest" - 30 Acres Nestled in the Nantahala National Forest


Our charming 2-bedroom, 2-bath cedar post and beam house, is nestled in the Nantahala National Forest.  Come stay in any season - experience the beautiful blooms of spring, beat the heat of summer, enjoy the bright colors of fall foliage, and romp in the snow of winter.

There are 30 acres of beautifully maintained property. It is surrounded by beautiful forest which will beckon you to explore. Access trails to the Bartram Trail are only steps from the front gate. This area is heaven for hikers with an abundance of trails that range from easy to difficult.

Bird watchers can also experience great adventures trying to identify the huge array of species in the front yard!  There are barred owls, scarlet tanagers, cedar waxwing and worm eating warblers, just to name a few. However, nothing beats the morning and evening song of the melodious wood thrush. You can relax on the front deck and watch deer graze, turkey wander, and red tail hawks soar. The expansive view from the deck looks at Scaly Mountain, NC.

Our home is very comfortable and spacious with lovely décor. The large master suite has a king and the loft bedroom has a queen bed. There are two full baths, one with a relaxing claw foot tub. There is a fully equipped kitchen. (but the gourmet fare in the town of Highlands, NC, is well worth the 30-minute scenic drive.) 

There are many local attractions that include zip lining, mountain coasters, gem mining, white water rafting, fly-fishing, hiking, the Great Smoky Mountain Railway, winter tubing, skiing and snowboarding, ice skating, scenic drives, The Blue Ridge Parkway, and live theatre at the Smoky Mountain Performing Arts Center in Franklin and The Highlands Playhouse in Highlands.

Back at home, if you find yourself inside, there is also a HD flat screen and High Speed Wi-Fi with Roku Streaming.

Labor Day getaway

What a beautiful place! Bill and Heidi are excellent hosts; there are hiking trails steps from the front door and an entertaining deer family on the property. A great place for some R&R.

Great weekend getaway

Nice and cozy home in a very peaceful setting in the mountains. We had a great relaxing weekend with the dog, there was plenty of space for him to run around. The hosts were also very helpful and quick to respond.

Beautiful Stay

Well maintained property inside and out. Expansive lawn/meadow was mowed. Flowers and landscape around the house well maintained. The home is well maintained, the master bedroom was very pretty and restful, perfect for napping. No complaints at all. The owners, Bill and Heidi, are very nice and helpful.

Relaxing and Recharging

This private home was exceptional with the ability to relax and recharge along with great privacy. The view is absolutely the best. You can always look out and see so much of the mountains. We saw many deer each morning on the land in front of the house as well as at night. We did not want to leave this place. We can guarantee you will fall in love with it! Go and stay and you will find out!!

Piece of heaven!

The house was very clean and well maintained will all the expected amenities. The location was just what we needed, quiet and peaceful, with a gorgeous view! Beautiful big yard perfect if you are traveling with dog. Lenny our dog, enjoyed running ,playing or relaxing on the patio. We enjoyed nature, visit of pheasants or turkeys /not sure/, family of deer with small calves and a lots of birds hummingbirds! Every evening we watched the lightning bugs. This was magical. We recommended Mama G's Italian Restaurant in Clayton GA. Thank you Bill and Heidi for wonderful time and hospitality. Hope to stay again! Rober & Alicja and Lenny

Spoon's Rest

My husband and I just returned from a 5 day stay at Spoon's Rest. I truly have nothing but positive things to say about our stay. The property is beautiful and meticulously maintained inside and out. There is a classy yet homey feel to the property. The hosts Bill and Heidi are the best. Bill calls out to the deer in the surrounding forest every morning and evening and they promptly come out to be fed. There is also a bevy of guineas that visit each day which all adds to the charm of the property. Our dog Desmin was in heaven with all the woodland visitors! Franklin is a very nice town with good shopping opportunities on Main Street (and elsewhere). We found Doodlebugs in particular to be an interesting shop and the owner was very knowledgeable about arrowheads etc... I didn't realize how close Spoon's Rest was to Atlanta, Cherokee etc.. There is just SO much to do in the area but if you decide to go nowhere like we did one day that's okay because the property is gorgeous with a fantastic front porch with million dollar view of the mountains. We loved every minute of it and hope to return!

Perfect vacation

We had a wonderful and memorable stay at Heidi and Bill's vacation rental nestled in the Nantahala Forest in Franklin, North Carolina! From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the amazing mountain views and the pristine condition of the entire property. The location was enchanting, perfectly as described, quiet, safe, and conveniently close to all local attractions, with the added ease of a beautiful driveway. The atmosphere was incredibly serene and tranquil, allowing for true relaxation.The rental itself offered every possible amenity imaginable, including reliable Wi-Fi and excellent air conditioning. What truly set this place apart were the thoughtful little touches: the beautifully cared-for plants, the joy of watching the hummingbirds flutter by, the delightful presence of other birds, and cozy evenings around the fantastic fire pit. We even had the pleasure of seeing a deer family visit! The property is incredibly well-maintained, spacious, and the well-manicured lawn added to the overall serene atmosphere. We felt so comfortable and at ease here.Communication with Heidi and Bill was outstanding. They were incredibly responsive and friendly, providing clear check-in/out instructions and valuable local recommendations. As dog owners, we especially appreciated our dog being able to play with their awesome dog, Alfie! This is truly a five-star experience and a place we'd love to return to.Nikki, Jake, and Joe

Absolutely amazing- must see for yourself

Bill and Heidi are amazing as is there home. I cannot put into words how beautiful the property is. We saw so many deer each day. Went on a peaceful walk on the trail directly outside the gate of the property. Everything was perfect for celebrating my cancer recovery as well as Brain surgery. Everyone needs a rest at Spoon Rest

This was our 2nd stay here & once again it was wonderful. The well maintained road makes for a fairly easy drive up.The covered carport is great for getting into the home & has a motion light to help if you're coming in after dark. Having the porch gated on both sides is a big benefit if you have your pet with you. The views are awesome, the air smells wonderful & it's so peaceful to hear only the birds.The master bedroom, with a very comfortable bed, has two skylights that let the sun slowly awake you each morning & also give a great view if you're having to do physical therapy on the floor..(😊..trying to avoid back surgery). They have guest ROKU that allows you to tap into your Netflix, Amazon Video etc accts. Being there isn't any cell service, we brought our home MAGICJACK which taps into the WIFI, thus giving us access to a phone should the need arise. This time, we learned Bill planned,designed & built a solid house that was their home for many years until they outgrew it. You can feel the warmth & love in this home: it will feel like your home too so if you bring pets, please be respectful & treat it as your own. There's a laundry room, a claw bathtub with an amazing forest view, that I again didn't use but maybe next year. There isn't a built in dishwasher, so bring your own😂 as it makes for great bonding.Bill, Heidi, Liam & Alfred are warm,welcoming home owners & a delight to talk to. We hope to return again next year & maybe stay longer.

Beautiful and unbelievably quiet location - just what we wanted! Sitting on the porch watching God’s creation as the birds and deer (Bill’s babies) entertained us with their activity. Relaxing Stay at Spoon Rest

We enjoyed our stay at Spoon Rest very much. It was the perfect place for us to relax and unwind from the day-to-day stresses of life. The property is a bit off the beaten path on a gravel road that traverses through the woods. The house sits on a hill that overlooks a beautiful field with mountain views. There is a main deck off the living area and a smaller one off the master bedroom. The house has a nice living room with a spiral staircase that leads to a loft space with a bed. The first floor has a spacious bedroom and bathroom. The kitchen is well equipped, and we enjoyed making our breakfast each morning and the occasional dinner. One night we sat around the firepit and made Smores which was great. Each evening the property owner, Bill, drove in his golf to the large field below the house to feed the deer. I got attached to one beautiful doe who took a particular interest in me and our dog. The owners live on the property and are very nice but not intrusive. All in all, it was a great place to unplug, unwind, and listen to the sounds of nature.

Cozy Place in the Mountain

We had a wonderful time! The place is beautiful and peaceful. William and Heidi were amazing! They responded very quickly with our questions and requests. We enjoyed our breakfast with the brown eggs they gave us. We highly recommend this place to others.
