Charming 4 Bedroom Cottage with Shore Front Access & Internet
The Spruce Lane Cottage is a non smoking family cottage where our children and grandchildren have gathered each year to enjoy Mid-coast Maine. We would like you to enjoy it too!The Cottage rents from Saturday to Saturday during the Summer and is available for more flexible bookings in the Spring and Fall. This year we are excited to announce the installation of a heat pump to aid with heating and cooling the cottage.
This sunny two story, 4 bedroom cottage is a quiet retreat. It is located a short walk from the harbor and village. The cottage has a large wooden wrap around deck that is outfitted with comfortable chairs and provides a quiet place to have morning coffee, afternoon tea. or evening coctails while watching the birds, reading a good book, or planning your activities for the day.
The first floor, contains a living room with comfortable seating, a fireplace, and a large screen smart TV. Guests can log into their own Apps. and watch, There is also a bright, sunny dining area where your group can gather, and a galley kitchen. Two bedrooms, each with a queen bed, and a full bathroom are also on the first floor. On the second floor there are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with two single beds. There is a second full bathroom between the two bedrooms. Bed and bath linens (i.e. sheets, pillowcases and towels) are not included with this rental. You can either bring your own or we can arrange to have them supplied for a per person fee upon request.
This cottage is equipped with Cable TV and WiFi to keep you entertained and connected as you plan each day's adventures.
The Spruce Lane Cottage has access to the shore front just a few minutes walk away. Our guests can launch their kayaks or canoes in this area and explore the waters of Tenants Harbor. We recommend Drift Inn public beach in Port Clyde, located a 5-10 minute drive from the cottage, for swimming. This beach has a beautiful sandy expanse at low tide. Bring a picnic lunch, a good book and enjoy the day! There is a public parking lot close to the beach.
The village of Tenants Harbor is just a short walk from the cottage with scenic views of the harbor along the way. The post office, general store, Quarry Tavern at The East Wind Inn, Town Landing, Schoolhouse Bakery, and Happy Clam restaurant with its Outback bar are nearby. Walk by the Town Office a little further down the road and see the metal sculpture of St George and the Dragon on your left and then stop in at the Jackson Memorial Library on your right.
The Spruce Lane Cottage is located a 10-15 minute drive from Port Clyde where you can book tickets for the Ferry to Monhegan Island; pick your favorite flavor at Village Ice Cream; stock up on supplies at the general store, enjoy a coffee at Squid Ink; have a meal at the Dip Net restaurant or check out the art galleries.
If lighthouses are of interest, the Marshall Point Lighthouse is on the way to Port Clyde and the Owls Head Light is a little farther in the other direction. The Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse is about 12 miles away in the town of Rockland off of Route 1. There is a multiplex movie theater located in Thomaston about 10 miles away on Route 1. A public golf course is also located in Rockland. Enjoy shopping, antiquing and visiting the art galleries and museums in the surrounding areas. Most of all enjoy the seafood at the many restaurants on or near Route 1 or stop and pick up some fresh Maine seafood to prepare at the cottage. After dinner, relax on the deck and enjoy the evening or sit in front of a crackling fire and read a good book, play a board game, work on a puzzle or watch TV.
Our family has revisited this area for over 80 years. We invite you to stay at The Spruce Lane Cottage in Tenants Harbor as you also enjoy your adventures exploring Mid-coast Maine.

Love staying at Tenants Harbor. Great base camp to explore Maine. The house was just as advertised. Only thing that would make it better would be a washer and dryer. Highly recommend.

Another great vacation!
Again, my family and I had a wonderful time in Tenants Harbor. The house is very comfortable, plenty of bedrooms and 2 full baths is a plus! Weather was a mix of rain/fog and sunshine. Water was great for swimming. Hope to do it again next year for our third year at 50 Spruce Lane!

Thank you for your wonderful review. We do try to provide a place to relax in comfort when you return from exploring Mid Coast Maine. Looking forward to having you visit again!
Serene and private with a fantastic location on the mid-coast
I rented this very property 41 years ago from Linda's parents and I have been coming here off and on throughout the years. It feels like a home away from home. The setting is delightful: quiet, private and serene. The home has had beneficial improvements through the years, with all the conveniences one could want. I look forward to getting my "Maine Fix" while staying in this most enjoyable place.

Maine Vacation!
We had a great time. House was very comfortable and we had everything we needed. Beds were very comfortable also. We left on Friday due to heavy rain. Brought home a blueberry pie from Schoolhouse Bakery and enjoyed it all week. Delicious! Thanks for sharing Spruce Lane cottage with us.

Dear Susan:
We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at the Spruce Lane Cottage, VRBO 168950. Our mission is for you to have a comfortable place to rest and relax after you excursions up and down the coast of Maine. I am happy to hear that we succeeded.
Regards, Linda
The house was well stocked with kitchen implements. The heat pump was great for the 90 degree days. Beds were old and hard. The was the only disappointment for this property. Most VRBO properties I have stayed at have this problem. VRBO SHOULD HAVE A STANDARD FOR BEDS AND BEDDING.

Thank you for your review. Every year we try to make one or 2 improvements, i.e., the the stairs outside, the heat pump for cooling and the new couches. The next improvement will be new mattresses. Thank you for pointing out this need to me. We appreciate you letting us know about the mattresses and the issue will be addressed. Our aim to alway to provide a comfortable place to rest and relax on your vacation.

Lovely house is a beautiful location
My parents, friends, and me enjoyed loved the location of the house. We will love to come back again, hopefully for most relaxed trip.
I'd definitely recommend this house to my friends and other network.
I have only one suggestion, the top floor of the house gets really really hot in summer. So it would be great if there are additional heavy duty fans in the house. Thanks Preeti

Quiet and secluded Maine Getaway
I have stayed at the Spruce Lane Cottage with my family and friends for many years now and look forward to my return. The cottage is on hill in a clearing that offers stargazing at night and wonderful sunshine during the day. Every year an upgrade is made to the cottage making it comfortable, updated and clean. The wrap around porch presents and ideal setting for coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening. The upstairs allows the teenagers to have their own area for play, sleep and late night activity while the adults can have time on their own downstairs. Great location in Maine for jumping off on day trips and far enough from southern Maine to give you a real feel of the coast of Maine. Two nice small villages are nearby as well as some fantastic dinning.

Well-Equipped And Comfortable
My husband and I, along with our parents, thoroughly enjoyed our four-night stay at this Spruce Lane Cottage. We found the cottage to be well-equipped and very comfortable for the six of us. I loved that the cottage had two full bathrooms and four bedrooms, with three of the bedrooms containing queen-sized beds. We also enjoyed having our coffee on the deck each morning -- what a beautiful way to wake up! Being familiar with the area, we chose this cottage for its quiet St. George Peninsula location in the beautiful town of Tenants Harbor. In addition, it provided us with easy access to Port Clyde, Owls Head, and the larger communities of Rockland, Rockport, and Camden all just short drives away. We were extremely pleased with our stay at the lovely Spruce Lane Cottage, and I am looking forward to a return visit!

Dear Joanne: Thank you for your wonderful review of the Spruce Lane Cottage! I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay . Our goal has always been to make our guests' stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Please think of us on you future trips to Tenants Harbor. Regards, Linda
We chose spruce lane cottage because it was in a small quiet town but not too far from the larger city with the tourists attractions and a short drive to few beaches. We really enjoy small town vibes and tenants harbor was just what we were looking for. The cottage was a stones throw away from the water which was a nice walk to and watch the boats come and go. We went to drift inn beach just down the road a few times, the kids really enjoyed exploring during low tide. We bought live lobsters from the general store and cooked them at the cottage which was a neat experience for us midwestern folk. Overall we had a wonderful time. The cottage was the perfect size and had everything we could have needed. The bedrooms were good sized and having two bathrooms was so nice! We absolutely fell in love with Tenants Harbor and we’re so glad we stayed at spruce lane cottage. 10/10 would recommend and would definitely stay again!
Was exactly what we needed for our stay with our pups. It was a quiet area and sunrises over the ocean were beautiful. The road leading to the property was a little tricky for our car but once we learned how to maneuver on it, it was fine. We had a very enjoyable stay 😁

Thank you so much for your kind review!. I am delighted that the quiet environment at the cottage's location that is also near the ocean and harbor was just what you needed. We have endeavored to provide a comfortable and restful place to return to after enjoying either a walk with your dogs around the block or into the village or exploration of mid coast Maine.
This is a very nice property in a quiet neighborhood. While there is no direct view of the ocean you are steps away from an ocean vista so this is a great spot to use as a convenient base.
Very clean and functional home, very quiet, lovely grounds, short walk to the general store, and owners were accommodating about bringing our 4 month old puppy and about an unplanned slightly late check out. Kitchen and baths serviceable but nothing fancy. Would stay again!

The General Store and harbor is just a short walk from the house. We bought some lobsters and had a nice dinner.

A cozy secluded cottage on the coast of Maine.
Just as described. Nothing fancy but all the basics are there. Close to boating opportunities. Large private backyard. Beautiful scenery and beach nearby. Note: Road is a seasonal gravel road that would be difficult to navigate in car with limited ground clearance.

Not what I expected.
i will not return to house. It wasn't in a convenient location, no washer dryer unit for doing clothes, and you can't see harbor from house because trees block your view. We cleaned up pretty nicely, but was still charge a crazy amount from our deposit. This house was not what I expected.

It is unfortunate that you were not pleased with the Cottage, however, nowhere in our online description is there mention of a water view from the property, nor is a washer and dryer mentioned in our list of amenities.
We ask our guests to leave the Cottage in the same clean condition that it was upon their arrival. We sincerely regret that we had to deduct from your deposit, however, what usually takes one housekeeper 2 to 3 hours to clean took 2 housekeepers 4 ½ hours each to clean and delayed our next guests from taking occupancy for 1 ½ hours. We want to return our guests' damage/extra cleaning deposits in full and it is in our best interests to do so. In this case, we had to deduct the cost of additional cleaning.

We wish we had stayed longer
On our departure day, my 3 girlfriends and I wished we had extended our stay so we could just sit on the balcony and enjoy the surrounding. We were so busy with our outdoor activities.
The place is quiet, we all slept so well. Great house, we enjoyed it truly.

Lovely weekend
We needed a place to stay for my husband, daughter, son, grandson and I to attend my brother in law's 60th birthday party. Although it was past the " in season" rental time, the owners graciously kept the cottage open for us. Linda went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. The cottage is the perfect size for a multi generational vacation with its four bedrooms and two full baths. We even enjoyed the fireplace one night and had guests for dinner....

About the host
Hosted by Linda Eller, Deborah 'O'Reilly
I am an East Coast native who now resides in Colorado. However, I still love the East with its seafood and the ocean and regularly visit. My father's family originated in Maine and we visited Tenants Harbor every year while growing up and eventually bought our own property. I never tire of returning.
Why they chose this property
My father's family is from the area. Historically they made their living from the sea. Even though we lived in Rhode Island, we vacationed in Tenants Harbor every summer because we loved the area and its beauty. Eventually my father built cottages there. My sisters and I still love the area and spend time there every year. My father and I built this cottage and I brought my sons there each year as they were growing up. They are now grown and I have passed the tradition on to them.
What makes this property unique
The air is fresh and smells of the ocean. There is a sense of peacefulness that makes it possible to relax and recharge. It is also beautiful, everywhere you look is a photo opportunity. And that doesn't even cover the fact that the seafood is fresh and delicious. I love to walk here, I love to sit on the deck of my cottage and read. I sometimes take the Monhegan Ferry out to Monhegan Island or book an afternoon of sailing from Camden. I like to go to the Rockland Lobster Festival or to the suppers held in the Odd Fellow's Hall in town. The village of Tenants Harbor is quaint and the architecture of the older buildings is historic, the seafood is fresh and the sea air is envigorating. It is a wonderful change of pace from the city. That why I visit my property once or twice a year.
