About this property

Mountain Top Cabin 5 minutes from the John C. Campbell Folk School

Welcome to Bearfoot Lodge! This is a brand new cabin finished October 2019 on top of a mountain ridge with amazing views just 5 minutes from the John C. Campbell Folk School, 15 minutes from town, and just a few miles from the Harrah's Casino in Murphy, NC! We are centrally located between Atlanta, Chattanooga, Gatlinburg and Asheville! Easy access to all of your destinations! From our cabin you can see NC, GA & TN! We are in a secure and safe gated community that can only be entered with a gate code, however; we do not have neighbors on top of each other which makes you feel secluded. In our subdivision there is a family of deer and turkey that live here. We also have a few black bears that travel our ridge! (No hunting is allowed in our subdivision!)
Our cabin is is a spacious 3 bedroom, 2 & 1/2 bath that is fully equipped. We have a king, a queen, a twin, a full, a futon and a couch bed that converts to a queen bed so we are able to sleep 11 people. If you have guests that don't want to share a bed we also have two queen and one twin air mattress for your use.
The bathrooms have hair dryers and curling irons as well as first aid kits. We have a fully stocked kitchen to help you to be able to cook even a holiday dinner with ease! We have a Ninja blender, cookie sheets, crock pot, an iron & ironing board, large roasting pans, pie pans, rice cooker, spring form pans, waffle maker and a coffee grinder. If you reserve enough ahead of time and there is something for the kitchen that you would love to have on your visit, please let us know and we will do what we can to make sure that you have any reasonable item before you arrive.
We have two decks that face the NC & TN mountain ranges. Out of the back of the home you have a beautiful view of the GA mountain ranges! The bottom deck has an over sized swing and our main deck has a swing, a bench, 4 rocking chairs and a gas grill that is hooked to a large propane tank so you don't have to worry about running out of gas during your cooking on the grill.
We have also added a gate to the entrance of the top deck so you don't have to worry about your four-legged family running off the deck without you noticing!
Each bedroom has a smart TV that has the ability to watch Netflix & Hulu during your stay.
The loft area has two extra large chairs and ottomans so you can relax and read while staring at a beautiful view. It also has a desk area and printer for those that need to bring work with them. Free Wi-Fi is also included!
There are also many card games and board games if you decide to stay in instead of exploring this amazing part of the country.
The living room has a large smart TV and a remote gas fireplace for those evenings you want to snuggle in front of a fire.
The pantry has a full size washer and dryer to be able to use during your stay at Bearfoot Lodge.
For the smaller kids we have coloring books, books to read and a few toys that they can occupy themselves with if they get bored. For the adults, we have a few books, puzzles and adult coloring books as well!
Most rooms also include battery operated candles so you can enjoy a romantic ambiance during your stay!
We do have a fire pit at the property so make sure to pick up some firewood at the local gas station or stores around town.

There is not a landline at the home but most cell phones work up on the mountain due to a cell tower being close by. (This is not guaranteed though!)
If you would like extra cleaning during your stay, please let us know during booking so we can contact our cleaners ahead of time to let them know you want cleaning during your stay.

Peaceful sanctuary
We had a very relaxing stay. This place was cozy and beautifully decorated with the best view on both sides of the mountain. The hosts were very prompt and helpful with the answers to our questions.

Cozy with Swoon-Worthy Views!
The cabin was clean and well-stocked with everything you'd need. The views were unbelievable - wish it had been warmer so we could have enjoyed the cute chairs and porch swing outside! The netflix and hulu subscriptions were enjoyed by all. It was nice to have the grill and dog gate on the porch. I loved the lantern chandelier and the copper sink in the kitchen! My favorite area was the two cozy reading chairs in the loft. Heaven! There were only a few drawbacks. One, the locks/handles on the doors were cute novelty latches, but were extremely loud and difficult to open. A few times my kids got stuck in the rooms until we figured out the trick to opening the doors (some you have to push the door and the latch at the same time in order to get out). While it wasn't a huge deal, it struck me as a fire hazard and just annoying in general. Two, the mattresses in the two upstairs rooms were extremely uncomfortable and squeaky. Nicer mattresses would have really been appreciated! (My brother and his wife who slept in the king bed said their mattress was very comfortable!) Overall we had a fantastic time and enjoyed ringing in the New Year at Bearfoot Lodge!

Relax in the Mountaintop Cabin
This cabin is excellent. The owners are wonderful and easy to communicate with. The views from the deck are amazing and the cabin had everything we needed for a comfortable week long stay. A great location to several hiking trails, golf courses and restaurants.

Relaxing and Refreshing Stay
We came for a wedding in a near by town. The scenery was beautiful! It was cloudy so we didn't get a good sunrise but the day time view was stunning. Very clean, comfortable, beautiful property and neighborhood. It has everything you would need for your stay is there except the food. Grocery store near by. The drive up might be the longest ten minutes ever but also very interesting. Cool stuff on the way. Lots of small winding roads but not bad. My brothers small hybrid made it, no problems. Lot of beautiful deer. Watch out for dolly the doe, her friends, and tom turkey. Plenty of beautiful birds singing without the humming or noise of city life. Walk around the block was great too. Thank for a wonderful stay. We would love to come back in the future.

About the host

It all started about ten years ago when the owners were married. Broke and in debt, they got a steal on a cabin rental in Murphy from a friend. As the were out to breakfast one morning, he was looking through the real estate magazines and she asked what he was doing. His response was that one day they would own a house in the mountains….. she giggled…. And 10 years later here they are!
There is also a story behind the name of our home in the mountains. The two own a little ranch in Florida where they raised, and their five kids showed, show cattle. One evening at dusk she went for a walk down the dirt road they live on and heard a bear in the woods. She called him and asked, “What do I do?”, to which he promptly replied, “Get home!” He went the next morning to look for tracks, and there they were in the dirt on the side of the road! There was a black bear for a short time wandering around our town and she had finally made it out to the country they live, yes, we do have black bears in south Florida! Thus, Bearfoot Ranch was born!
Fast forward a few years and here they are, sharing their home with you! This home was a dream, long in the waiting, but soon enough became real. The home was completed in October of 2019, and they were ecstatic to see it finished. When they saw the finished product, it was all they had imagined. He is a builder and is always designing everything; she all but demanded to design this one, and he gladly obliged. I hope you are as pleased with it as they are.

Why they chose this property

On our first visit to the area looking for property we fell in love with the views that Brasstown Heights offered. After looking for months at numerous properties in the area we were drawn back to this mountain time and time again. Because the views are absolutely amazing here, we decided to build instead of buy a current home since one was not available at that time on this mountain.

What makes this property unique

Relaxation and tranquility!
