About this property

Cozy lake cabin with beautiful views & barrel sauna

Big Doc Cabin is a cozy two bedroom, 1200 square foot cabin nestled on twenty-five acres at the end of a private road. It is perfect for a small family or small group of friends. It has beautiful views of Big Doctor Lake and the surrounding woods make it the perfect cabin getaway in all seasons. A recent addition of a barrel sauna and new deck are highlights of the property. Golf courses, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, biking, hiking, and snowmobile trails are nearby.

The property has 1100 feet of shoreline that offer sweeping views of the lake, plant, and animal life. The wooded area behind the house creates a beautiful natural privacy. It is the perfect balance of natural setting, year-round accessibility and lake usability. Big Doctor lake is low traffic, nine feet deep, framed by cattails and pickerel offering pan, bass, and northern fishing. The cabin is equipped with two canoes and two paddleboards. Bring your own lifejackets. Swimmers and non-swimmers alike, please use caution in/around the lake. Please monitor children near or in the lake at all times. For other outdoor activities, there are two fire pits and bean bag boards. If you are bringing a boat, the public access boat launch is a half mile to the east.
The cabin property includes 25 acres to the northeast. It is great for watching animals, birds, and insects. You are welcome to hike and explore, but some of the land is wetland. Even in the summer, waders are necessary for parts. Also, it is important to note that since it is a wilderness area, there are mosquitos and ticks. Mosquitos and ticks are peak during their hatch in late spring/early summer. Bring your bug spray and check thoroughly for ticks. We recommend giving dogs a fresh dose of Frontline before visiting.

Main floor: The kitchen has a gas range and is stocked with basic cooking utensils and pantry goods. The living room has a vaulted ceiling and a wood fireplace. There is a sunroom with a dining table. The full bathroom has a shower with a seat. The bedroom has a bunk bed and trundle bed and can sleep 4.

2nd floor: Queen bed with half bath

Sleeping accommodations:
Bedroom 1 (main level): Bunk bed (queen & twin), twin trundle bed
Bedroom 2 (2nd level): Queen bed, rollaway cot, portable crib

Big Doc is stocked with towels, bedding, paper towels, toilet paper, basic soaps and some kitchen basics (salt, pepper, miscellaneous seasonings, sugar, flour, coffee filters, etc.). You should bring any ingredients you need, coffee, toiletries, etc.

Please note, there is a TV in the living room, however there is no network TV/cable or WiFi, but there are plenty of DVDs. There are binoculars and guidebooks for nature watching and stargazing. Consider this an opportunity to disconnect. If you do need wifi and have a hotspot, most cell provider services very work well here, so remote work can be an option.

The closest town is Siren. There is a nice park and child-friendly swimming beach. There are many businesses in Siren including a grocery stores, liquor stores, hardware stores, coffee shop, restaurants, antique shops, kitchen goods, ice cream shop, and gift stores. The Burnett County magazines and guidebooks are excellent resources for businesses and things to do in Siren and around all of Burnett County. In addition we have listed some of our favorites in the cabin binder.

One fully trained dog is welcome. We have strict pet rules. The dog must stay off the furniture and beds. The dog must be monitored at all times outside and cannot be a nuisance to neighbors by barking or otherwise. All dog waste from the yard must be cleaned up. The non-refundable pet fee is $50.

Big Doc has binoculars, wildlife guidebooks, puzzles and games, etc. Please treat our things kindly, put things back where you found them and generally respect the space. If something is accidentally broken or damaged, please let us know right away.

Please be advised:
-In wintertime the road is plowed when there is 6 inches of snow or more, four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended. The property may not be fully shoveled to the door. Please watch your step.
-Locked shed is private.
-Use caution around the lake, particularly with children.
-6 person maximum including children

Great spot off the beaten track
We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. The sauna and wood burning stove were highlights for us. The table that looks like it is in a sunroom is actually in a 4 season room. The kitchen had everything that we needed and beds were comfy. Everything was very well thought out- thank you for a wonderful weekend.

Nature's Calling
This place is fabulous! It's spacious, clean, well-built and tastefully decorated. It has everything you need for a time to breakaway from the world and relax. It's the quiet, outdoor retreat you dream about when you're email just won't stop. Nature surrounds you, yet the nearby small town has a coffee shop, restaurants, and anything else you might need. A nice bonus, was the newly installed barrel sauna. A little bit of heaven.

Secluded cabin
This was a clean and tranquil cabin in a small quiet lake. They had wood for outdoor fire, outdoor yard games and deck over a small creek. Excellent for a weekend get away.

Great quick getaway
We really enjoyed our stay at Big Doc cabin! The only complaint we have is that we did not reserve it for another couple days!
