We enjoyed the cabin and property!! The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay!! The hosts were very nice and communicated with us for everything we needed!! The property is very pet friendly, amd our hound Allie loved her stay too!! The property was great!! Lot's of trails for hiking and the pond was super cute!! We had a very peaceful stay and even got to see lots of wildlife!! We will definitely be returning both with family and for ourselves!!
We chose this place for our annual mountain get away and were certainly not disappointed. We brought our dogs, who were welcomed warmly as this is their vacation as well. Quaint and quiet, this cabin was the perfect retreat from the daily grind. A wonderful property with beautiful surroundings. We enjoyed hiking with the dogs and chilling out on the porch swing with a cold beverage after. Thank you to our hosts Joshua and Amber for sharing with us your mountain paradise.
Can’t say enough good things about this property. If you want privacy, it’s got it. If you want a pond, it’s got it. If you want a babbling brook and waterfall, it’s got it. The only thing it doesn’t have is good cell service (but it does have good wi-if) but in my opinion that’s a good thing if your looking for a private retreat. Definitely recommend. Oh yeah, the house is perfect as well…..plus they provide hammocks.
This was a lovely cottage in the mountains, so peaceful. Our dogs loved roaming the property, and our kids loved playing with the ice that had started to form on the pond. The cabin was well equipped with all the essentials as well as comfortable bedding and beautiful views of the mountains. The hosts were beyond exceptional! The communication was on point, and the welcoming basket was an unexpected surprise. I would say the only downside is the travel to get there is on a very windy road that made some of my family a bit carsick, but once we arrived - heaven!
Very quiet and secluded. I did meet a couple of interesting neighbors! Beautiful scenery, and challenging hairpin turns to drive! Ahhh North Carolina Mountains.
The house as a whole was a good experience! Definitely secluded which is what we wanted. It was a great place for our pups to run free and enjoy the outdoors. With that being said the grass was very high in all location's so made it difficult to walk and not get tangled up. The inside of cabin was cute. No closets so keep that in mind if you need to have anything hanging. We had a wedding and had no place to hang oue attire. When the description states there are bugs, do not take that lightly. There ARE bugs. All shapes and forms, and sizes. Spiders, ants, fruit flies, wasps, etc. All indoors. Being in woods that's to be expected but the fruit flies were not fun to deal with esp when preparing our foods. Having washer and dryer was convenient BUT there was a good deal of mold in bathroom and laundry area, visually(ceiling) and odor. It was overpowering in some instances. Communication with the host was great. He was pretty prompt in responses and allowed us an hour early check in, which was good. They left a nice welcoming package, and overall the experience was good. Lack of closets, toaster, and odor made for only bad experiences. The neighbors were nice and kind. Only recommendation is if you are sensitive to smells, or bugs this isn't place for you. Close to Hot Springs, which was good. Also, only like 30 min from main stores, longest part is getting down mountain.
We wanted somewhere to unwind and this was the perfect location. The house was well appointed and quiet with a the lovely sound of the water running in the creek. We took our dogs and they loved it as well. Love the porches. Fun ride in and out especially when headed to Hot Springs. We definitely would like to return soon!
Camp Happy Mundo was a perfect place for a relaxing get away. The cabin had all the necessary amenities and the hosts were very accommodating. While there was a slight hiccup at check-in the hosts quickly rectified the situation and ensured that we felt welcome. There was a number of hiking options nearby and other sites such as Asheville, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge were all close enough for a day trip.

About the host
Hosted by Joshua Niven
Hey there! We are Amber & Josh Niven, two love birds who met on the Appalachian Trail. We are artists, outdoor enthusiasts and authors of Discovering the Appalachian Trail. We have a deep reverence and passion for the region we live in and enjoy sharing it with others.
When we aren't hiking, hosting, or making art you can find us in Hot Springs, having a beer at Big Pillow Brewing or eating dinner in downtown Marshall with our two kiddos, River Axel and Indie Oaks.
Why they chose this property
We named our property Camp Happy Mundo after our two pets - Happy the cat and Mundo the Dog.
Private, but not too remote. Perfect mountain getaway with loved ones or solo retreat to make art and connect with nature.
What makes this property unique
Quiet and remote, private hiking trails with abundant plant life, a swimming / fishing pond, rushing creek, fire pit, hammock pod, indoor sauna and wood stove - the perfect recipe for rest and relaxation or quality time with the family!
