About this property
Relax & Unwind in an Iconic Cabin! River views
Come be our guest in this authentic log cabin in a very peaceful setting that is a truly unique experience . This 100+ year old cabin was disassembled from an old holler in Madison County and lovingly rebuilt by local craftsmen. Step back in time while enjoying modern conveniences. The beautiful French Broad River is a short walk from your front door. Pet friendly!
When you walk into the cabin probably the first impression are the timbers that were used to build this house. It is just impressive if you think about it, an old art of sort. The living room is comfy with a soft couch and furniture, an inviting place to sit by a fire and perhaps watch tv. The kitchen is small, but has all basic cooking items, and a dining table that seats 4. The bathroom with shower is located on the ground floor, as is a sleeping sofa off the main room.
Walk up the spiral stairs, also made of thick hewn timbers to the loft bedroom. It is an open space, but you cannot really see the lower floor living space.
If you have a child who would not mind sleeping on the couch, you are welcome to do this.
The cabin itself has been a place where memories have been made for over 100 years.
Walking out on the small front porch the door opens to a very peaceful setting of an expansive hillside lawn that meets the railroad tracks and then the French Broad River. The porch is covered so you can enjoy being outdoors in all weather and seasons taking in the atmosphere of this awesome cabin and picturesque property.
The French Broad River is a short walk from Riverstone (5 minutes or less) and is part of this property. There is a large hayfield that is harvested a couple of times a year. When the hay is growing, we mow some paths into the field so guest can walk around. Depending on what your activity schedule is, you may never want to leave this spot. Perfect for a picnic, fishing, and watching the water roll by. For added enjoyment you may bring your favorite camp chairs or hammock setup.
Please note, the drive down to the cabin is approximately a mile off of the main road. The majority of this "driveway" is gravel/dirt. The drive goes along the railroad tracks and is narrow at times. During times of rain there may be large puddles and some mud to drive through. We do recommend a vehicle with higher clearance. AWD or 4WD is not necessary. We drive a toyota rav 4, a kia sorrento and a honda pilot with no trouble, but we are use to rural mountain roads.
The railroad track does pass through, and there are trains that still travel through the mountains to and from Knoxville to Asheville maybe twice per day. In a time before there were cars and rail transport, the road to Riverstone and beyond was called the Drover's Road, where merchants would walk their goods to and from markets along the French Broad.
The cabin is located less than 5 miles to the sweet town of Hot Springs, NC. We think Hot Springs is a wonderland in all seasons. There are plenty of activities in the area to check out, such as rafting the French Broad with one of our local companies, hiking a section of the Appalachian Trail, taking a soak at the Hot Springs mineral baths at the Resort and Spa, visiting some of our great area shops and restaurants. If you venture a little over an hour away, you could explore Asheville or take a fun trip to Dollywood.
*Please Note, the town of Hot Springs was flooded in September of 2024. We are in the process of rebuilding. Currently open (April 2025) are the Hot Springs Resort and Spa (call ahead to book your mineral soak appointment), Bluff Mountain Outfitters, the Smoky Mountain Diner, Big Pillow Brewing with the Grey Eagle Taquaria food truck, the Artisun Coffee Shop and Emporium, Vaste Riviere Outpost, Vinyl Pies Pizzeria, the gas station, and several convenience stores. These places would appreciate your business. We recommend you research hours of operation.
I think people who are wanting to find a getaway that is low key, in an amazing area, and abundant in nature will enjoy spending time at Riverstone. It is a marvelous place of wonder, and a bit of an automatic reset to a more relaxed mindset.
Riverstone is Pet Friendly. We do charge a pet fee to compensate the cleaner for extra cleaning detail. If you are bringing a dog, please include your pet to your reservation.
