Matapouri Beach house
PLEASE CONTACT OWNER PRIOR TO REQUEST TO BOOK (Use Ask Owner a Question)
Our property at Whale Bay, Matapouri, is a special one. The built environment is spacious, the core of which was designed by a nationally recognized architect. Accommodation is spread across five separate buildings which are contemporary and distinctive. Each building occupies a different part of the site and presents a difference of land and seascape. The main living structure at present is a medium sized Fijian style bure with a mezzanine that overlooks Staffa Bay, and has echoes of the little ocean-side churches that exist all around the Pacific. Over the sheltered lawn to one side is a bunkhouse that sleeps 4. Next to this is an outdoor bath overlooking the small garden and coastline.
On another part of the site, across lawns and down a garden path, there is another building we call the Garden Shed. It has a high, single, large room with just two chairs and a queen-sized bed.
At the top of the drive is a boatshed the size of four double garages. Over the past few years we have reserved this building for family use. While we don't include it in the rental, we are happy to give access to the laundry and when there is a large group in occupation we can make the mezzanine available for extra sleeping.
And beside the boatshed is the second and standalone bathroom. It is constructed in galvanized steel, has a roller door that can be lowered for privacy, and is built around two immense his and her shower roses.
And between these 5 buildings you find yourself making the many journeys that connect them, from shelter to open space and back, during the course of the day.
Whale Bay is ideal for one or more families ; for families with friends ; or couples desiring isolation in a visual feast. Young children can be with you in the bure. Older ones can occupy different buildings and spaces. Guests have the separation they and you desire.
