About this property

Best Setting Bronze Winner Bookabach awards, Private beach, incredible views

WINNER of Bronze Best Setting 2016 in the NZ wide Bookabach awards this elevated absolute waterfront property enjoys spectacular sea views to the Poor Knight Islands / Whananaki coastline from nearly every room in the house. Set on 5 acres, fringed by pohutukawas and native bush along the shoreline this unique property enjoys two private beaches and its own mooring in a sheltered, all weather sandy bay.

Breakfast at the outside table with sea views to die for, recline on the deck and soak up the all day sun, play volleyball or cricket on the massive front lawn, wander along a loop track through native bush to the point - a special place to sit and contemplate above the ocean, check out on a side track what was once a small Maori pa, walk down our private track with steps to the beach to swim, fish off the point, snorkel or dive for crays, take our two kayaks for a paddle around the bay or along the coast or take your boat off the mooring and out for a day's fishing. The fish and cray in the photos were caught from the offshore reef just out from the beach. Winter fishing is best here.

Take one of the local walks: by the estuary to the old wharf and bar entrance, around the Whananaki sand spit, to the DOC headland reserve, stroll across the footbridge to Whananaki South beach or just walk down the road to beautiful Otamure Bay.

We are two and a half hrs from Auckland, 45 min from Whangarei, 5 minutes to a great surf beach, 2 minutes to a boat launching ramp in the Whananaki estuary and 3 minutes to the local general store (no fuel).

Dining table seats 10 to 12. Tiled ensuite plus separate upstairs and downstairs bathrooms, 3 fridges plus a stand alone chest freezer. Fish cleaning bench, bait freezer. Parking for boats, cars and trailers.

Special conditions:

Blankets/duvets/pillows are provided on all beds as part of the general rental.

Electric blankets on all beds during winter aside from the 4 bunk beds.

Electric fan/oil heaters in each bedroom.

Extras: Cleaning (Required, NZ$200.00 per stay paid to me); Linen (Optional - pay me directly - NZ$20.00 per person) includes sheets, pillowcases, towels, hand and tea towels and shower mats.

We let all our potential guests know that our house is equipped with two (one upstairs and one downstairs) Meths Detector continuously monitored, silent alarm systems. These detect when a house is being used as a P lab or when P is being smoked and send a message via the cell phone network to a monitoring centre which notifies me and I ring the police. We want our home to remain P free. We installed this system not because we have had problems in the past but because we wish to avoid them and have a place safe for our guests, ours grandchildren and ourselves.

I offer free cancellation (aside from the Bookabach fee) if the weather looks bad for winter bookings from May to 30th Sept . However, of the 15 groups I have offered this to over 12 years only one has cancelled and most found the weather far better than forecast. A line of hills behind us funnels a lot of rain away so we are far drier than say Whangarei and actually have drought conditions a lot, even during winter. It's not called the sunny north for nothing !!
