Tussock Cottage is situated in the South Island of New Zealand, at stunning Lake Hayes near historic Arrowtown, and a short drive to Queenstown.

This unique straw bale cottage is fully self contained with an outside garden area with a barbecue. It is private and tranquil, with fabulous mountain and lake views.
Tussock Cottage has a King size bedroom and spacious living area with cooking and dining facilities. A two minute walk to Lake Hayes and its walking track; swimming, fishing or kayaking are literally at your door step. And that is just the start of it ! Golf courses, art galleries, ski fields, vineyards, great dining and shopping, and of course adventure sports, all within easy driving distance.
Your hosts Lee and Jaap, are licensed tour operators and take great enjoyment in sharing their local knowledge with their guests.

The photos advertising the cottage dont come close to doing it justice. The owners have paid attention to the minutest of detail and the cottage is beautifully furnished. The owners were very welcoming and had even made tasty flapjacks for us to enjoy. Beautiful and quiet setting and would definitely book again in the future.

This is our 3rd stay at Tussock Cottage. I've been communicating with Jaap, and he and his wife are wonderful hosts. As usual, the place is tidy and clean, and our needs are cared for. You can feel the countryside living but at the same time well equipped with your modern needs. We'd always try to book in with Tussock Cottage whenever we travel to Queenstown. What a gorgeous place to stay! Right beside beautiful Lake Hayes, surrounded by peace and quiet and birdsong. The bungalow was so snug, unique and embracing - it was easy to feel right at home. Our hosts were very welcoming and informative - we enjoyed the Farmers' Market they recommended we visit and the bookshelves were well stocked with interesting reading matter. Thankyou so much, it was an Easter to remember!

Brilliant!

Absolutely perfect place to be close to everything and yet away with privacy, next to Lake Hayes and lovely local walks, swimming, biking and kayaking. We loved our stay and could have totally stayed longer!! spacious and warm, very comfortable bed and linen, all amenities needed, and very well presented. We will be definitely coming back to stay!

What a beautiful and cosy stay. Our lovely hosts thought of everything including free range eggs, Anzac biscuits and great coffee. The icing on the cake was that we could also bring our old pooch with us. Thanks so much. We will be back.

Beautiful location

Almost everything was fabulous about this place, we humbly suggest just a few small changes and additions to bring it up to five stars: a selection of thickness in bed pillows as the current ones are all very full; a couple more mugs for tea; a small amount of olive oil, vinegar, some herbs (maybe even fresh basil and parsley in a pot on the windowsill?) and the option to buy basic supplies to cook a simple meal becomes much more doable. Aside from these things the kitchen is well equipped, the bed comfortable, the whole place cosy and comfortable with a range of areas to relax including a lovely private area of the garden.
