We had a wonderful stay in this fully renovated historic villa and enjoyed views at the tables on both the front and back verandas. Its well set upwith everything you need. The location is perfect and there are lots of options to explore with walks and swims in fabulous beaches. The hosts were great, very responsive to queries and helpful.Highly recommend - one of the best places I’ve stayed in.
Fabulous stay, in a great location at Whangarei Heads, amazing scenery, quiet area at McLeod Bay but lots to do in the wider area. House very clean and comfortable with fabulous views of the bay in front and mountains behind. House had everything you need for a short or longer stay. Lovely touches of eggs and milk on arrival, hosts were very easy and quick to communicate with, great to meet them.
Stuart Farm was established in 1856 with the original house built in 1857 by the first Scottish settlers Captain Donald Stuart, his wife Anne (nee Mcleod) and their seven children. Donald's life as a merchant seamanship ceased when he and a crew of men were lost at sea in 1874, Anne survived him until 1897.
Their eldest son Murdoch, married Mary Mcleod from a Scottish settler family and together they raised four children, residing in the House until 1936 when they sold the property. Murdoch was the Whangarei Harbour Pilot for over 40 years and during this period Mary operated the post office and telephone exchange.
The Tattley Family bought the property 1974 and have resided here for over 50 years and have recently re-located the second dwelling in 2020 from St Mary's Rd. Waipu.
