About this property

Breathtaking Views in Mt Mitchell Lands Golf Course Community

*Please see below for booking notes*

Rising Sun is a premier vacation property in Mt. Mitchell Lands, a golf course community. This 10-acre wooded property is 3,200 feet in elevation, just east of Mt Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi. Just 2 hours from Charlotte, 1 hour from Asheville and 10 minutes away from the Blue Ridge Parkway, this home is very accessible. In no time you will be nestled in Pisgah Forrest with lots of privacy. In the Summer this home provides a wonderful respite from the heat, in the Fall a majestic display of foliage, in the Winter a brisk clear night sky and in the Spring the most glorious display of Rhododendron.

The views from the home are breathtaking. The covered patio is complete with comfortable seating and dining accommodations. The hot tub has a perfect view of the morning sunrise and the nighttime stars. If for some reason the hot tub is not running during your stay, a credit of $15 per day will be given. In several years we have only had this happen 3 times, but want to ensure our guests are informed!

The main floor two master suites boast high-end bedding for a restful sleep as the river sounds lull you to sleep. The lower level contains a newly remodeled queen bedroom. There is also a full bath, laundry facilities and TV room on the lower level.

The house is equipped with high-speed internet that can support simultaneous multiple-user video conferencing.

The kitchen is fully equipped for the chefs, stocked with high quality appliances and cookware including cephalon pots and pans, Cuisinart toaster oven/air fryer and 13 cup food processor, instant pot, electric mixer, mini food processor, crockpot, baking pans, waffle iron, muffin tins and more.

The lower level can accommodate the entire family with 4 bunks and pull out sofa. There are board games and high tech televisions to entertain the young and old alike.

Countless hiking trails are within 10 minutes and many accessible from the front door, including the Mount Mitchell Trail, leading to the highest peak east of the Missippi. Many hikes are riverside, all or in part, leading to some of the areas best waterfalls, including Roaring Fork, Setrock, Grassy Creek, and Crabtree Falls. Additional nearby adventures include tubing, gem mining, horseback riding and apple picking. If you are a nature lover, and need a spacious home for the entire family this is the house for you! Continue on for more things to do and property adventures....

Your view from the deck – You are at 3,100 feet in elevation. Looking straight out, the long range view to the North, is Roan Mountain in Tennessee. To the left, is the Black Mountain Range, including Mt Mitchell, the largest peak east of the Mississippi, standing 6,684 feet in elevation.

There are trail heads within the neighborhood and in Black Mtn Campground off of South Toe River Road just 1 mile from the property. *Trail maps and activity brochures for listed activities are in the Rising Sun Activities Guide at the house* There are countless trails, riverside and in the Pisgah, varying in length and intensity. Hemlock State Park is just North of the property and for $5 a car entry free you have access to great tubing, picnicking and swimming holes. Swimming holes abound and are also located in the travel guide. Mt Mitchell State Park is a must see attraction. The observation deck at the least is worth the 40 minute drive. A full day of adventure in the park may include trail hiking, picnicking and hammock R&R in the cooler air. Be prepared for the temperature to be 10-15 degrees cooler than at the house. Trails at the top include the Balsam Nature Trail, and a great hike with breath taking views east and west, the Deep Gap Trail. More waterfalls in the area include: Crabtree Falls off the Blue Ridge Parkway (BRP) 339.5, Grassy Creek Falls in Little Switzerland, and Roaring Spout Falls just North on Route 80 passed Blevins Farm. Orchard at Altapass is another must-see attraction. You can look up activities there on the website. There are live bands (mostly Bluegrass) on Saturdays and Sundays. They also have a historic hayride which is awesome, apple picking from July through October, and much more! There is an array of shopping in the area, including Local Arts – Glass Pottery, and More. Artists in the area can be found in the Toe River Arts Studio Tour Guide https://www.toeriverarts.org/studio-tour/. The Soap Shed is located in Spruce Pine, just off the BRP Milepost 331 (13 mile drive on the Parkway). There are daily soapmaking demonstrations by a PhD biologist, retiring to join the mountain life. There are more than 100 varieties! https://www.soapshed.com/. Little Switzerland Inn hosts a few shops, a restaurant, and an ice cream store. Asheville, Blowing Rock as listed on “longer distance adventures" is included in our travel guide. Gem Mining, Horseback Riding, Rafting, and Tubing, Yancey Movie Theatre, all within 20-30 minutes.

Rising Sun is the perfect place for a family getaway, tucked in nature, yet so much to do!

Perfect in every way!
This property was AMZING! The views are incredible, the proximity to many outdoor activities was ideal, and the house was very clean and comfortable. We had a group of friends stay here for a local trail race and it was a great house to host a big group and allowed everyone to have their own space. Cannot recommend this property enough!

Absolutely Beautiful
Wow! What a fantastic place to unwind! My family and I had an amazing time here! The inside of the cabin is amazing. So comfortable and plenty of room for everyone. The view from the upper deck cannot be beat. Down on the lower deck, stargazing in a clear night from the hot tub is a must. The only bad thing about our stay was that it had to come to an end. I can’t believe this place was available and isn’t fully booked all of the time.

Home away from Home...
This was our fourth visit to this absolutely STUNNING property. The only thing more impressive than the view and serenity is the thoughtfulness and hospitality offered by the owners. We are teachers and travel with our 3 teenagers as much as possible on breaks. We have been to many, many short term rental properties, but Rising Sun has proven to be our hands down fave. It is always immaculately clean. The owners have thought of EVERYTHING to make your stay perfect and are always readily available if needed. Our fave activities are the various creekside and waterfall hikes, family game and movie nights and of course staring at the long range mountain views from the hot tub. If you're looking to book an amazing stay for a family LOOK NO FURTHER!
