A Path to a Kyoto Machiya with Shigaraki Open-Air Bath & Garden. 2BDR
1. Welcome!
We offer tatami-mat rooms, natural materials such as wood and earthen walls, and an open-air Shigaraki-ware bath overlooking a traditional Japanese courtyard garden. Many guests choose to stay with us for their honeymoons, anniversaries, or to create special memories of their trip to Japan.
2. About Your Stay in a Kyoto Machiya
Kyoto AYA is a guesthouse renovated from a traditional Kyoto machiya. We have renovated the property to allow you to experience the tranquil atmosphere of Kyoto life, but much of the building retains its original structure. Therefore, ・ the stairs are steeper than in modern buildings ・some walls are thinner than in modern buildings ・you may hear slight sounds from the neighborhood These are natural characteristics of wooden machiya.
As the morning bustle subsides, the town’s gentle sounds return Before lunch, the whistle of a steam locomotive drifts in from afar At dusk, the faint chime of a bell echoes.
Memories of these small sounds, too, can become part of your time spent in Kyoto.

Deep in the mountains behind the main hall, there are many small shrines, waterfalls, and a vast bamboo grove, all connected by a network of paths where Kyoto’s spiritual traditions and natural beauty remain intact.
