Views, Luxury, Hot Tub

COMPLETE COVID-19 CLEANING
AVAILABLE FOR SEASONAL RENTAL (pets considered w/ month-long rentals)

Magnificent home, stunning views, extensive gardens, hot tub, total serenity. Complete luxury: hot tub, fireplace & wood stove, outdoor dining w/ hummingbirds, massage & hammock chairs, spa-quality baths w/ jacuzzi & shower w/ 5 heads, gourmet kitchen, original artwork. Near VT's premier skiing, hiking, & outdoor adventures w/ 180+ view of VT's most majestic mountains. Perfect for summer vacations, stunning autumn foliage & ski retreats.

Luxuriate in the serene elegance of Above the Clouds I -- relax in the travertine showers (one with 5 shower heads!), 2-person jacuzzi, or outdoor hot tub that faces west across the Mad River Valley; prepare a gourmet meal in a true cook’s kitchen outfitted with every appliance imaginable or use the Traeger wood pellet grill on the side patio; pamper yourself in the massage chair and hammock chair while watching a fire in the fireplace or woodstove (or both!); stroll through the extensive gardens; take a nap in the hammock; eat blueberries fresh off the bush; relax on the deck at sunset while sipping wine and watching hummingbirds wiz by... Though Above the Clouds is close to many of Vermont’s premier tourist destinations, there’s so much deliciousness here that there’s no need to go anywhere else!

Located at the end of a quarter-mile-long driveway that passes through birch and hemlock woods you'll find yourself perched at the top of the world overlooking a glorious 180+degree mountain vista. Other than the adjacent guesthouse (located nearby but placed so both homes have privacy), the only signs of life are lights twinkling across the valley at night and the wildlife that shares the land and soars over the valley. Or, if you’re looking for accommodations for a larger party, rent both homes and sleep up to 13 people (click my host picture to see my other listing or see the listing for Above the Clouds II and Above the Clouds Retreat).

Huge windows with amazing views grace every room in this 2500+ s.f. house and make the boundaries between the glorious outdoors and sumptuous indoors hard detect. With two sleeping wings (each with an en-suite, luxurious bathroom), two couples or a family of five can visit by day yet have complete privacy at night. Two more people can sleep in the cozy upper living room on a queen bed that pulls out of the leather sofa. Every room in the house is enhanced by original artwork, and all the fixings are the finest (cherry bedroom furnishings, sheepskin rugs and accents, TempurPedic mattresses, luxurious throws, leather furnishings, down blankets and pillows, etc.).

The kitchen is a gourmet chef’s dream with a gas range, huge pantry decked out with every appliance imaginable (plus some more!), generous granite counters, a giant array of spices, and a Traeger wood pellet grill/smoker on the adjacent patio. The delectables you create can be eaten on the patio table that seats up to 8, in the dining room on the table that can seat up to 12, or in the cozy octagonal breakfast nook. Perhaps the best part is that there is an amazing view from every seat in the house.

For your entertainment, the Smart TV is hooked up to DirecTV (with access to our Netflix and Amazon accounts) and has a DVD player. For your listening pleasure, there is a Bose Wave Music System and an extensive CD collection. And for some old-fashioned fun, there is a generous store of books, puzzles, and board and lawn games.

The gardens are as glorious as the inside of the house. If you can extract yourself from the cedar deck and patio furniture or 6-person hot tub, you'll want to wander and enjoy the extensive perennial gardens, relax by the water garden with fountain, play games on the lawns, or head off to hike on our 20 acres and adjacent trails. Seasonally, a dozen mature blueberry bushes and organic veggie and herb gardens can round out your dining selection. And, of course, no country holiday could be complete without a hammock and fire pit...

The house is

The house is powered by the sun and we have high-speed fiber-optic internet with up and down speeds of 100 mbs (which can be increased to up to 1 terabyte per second for an additional charge).

Note: The guesthouse, Above the Clouds II, can also be rented on a stand-alone basis or you can rent both homes to use for larger groups. For more information about the guesthouse, see the listing for Dramatic Views at Above the Clouds II. For more information about renting both homes see the listing for Above the Clouds Retreat: Views, Luxury, Hot Tub. Though the houses share the driveway, they are oriented in different directions, so each home has almost complete privacy.

Paradise
My wife and I along with our 11yo daughter came up for an end of the season snowboarding trip and this property did not disappoint. We frequent VRBO properties in VT almost every weekend in the winter and none have even come close to this property. Everything that you could possibly need it s here, I mean EVERYTHING! The place was spotless the layout was perfect the way the bedrooms are on opposite ends making it very private. The conditions up there were pretty washed out due to a week of rain so the roads were a bit tricky but I was already prepped by the Marianne. We were surprised with a ft of snow overnight that caused a power outage for most of Warren VT. The are batter operated candles for ambient lighting throughout the house as well as an abundant supply of flashlights and lanterns. The radiant heating kept the house was despite the power being out but there is a wood burning stove if needed. To sum it up this place should be used as a model for other VRBO properties. Marianne is an amazing host, we were on zero miles until empty and ask the gas stations had no power so she started calling around for us to see if any stations had power. The only reason that I would not recommend this property is because I want to make sure that it is available for us next season!! Marianne, thank you so much for your hospitality and sharing your home with us and we are looking forward to coming back.

Perfect house!
From all the vrbo houses we have rented, this house is in our top 5 list. The house is perfect, has everything you need and then some…. And Marianne definitely deserves the title of super/premier host! A storm was predicted while we stayed at the house & the official vrbo communication platform was down and Marianne got out of her way to get in touch with us to make sure we were OK. While the family went skiing, I stayed at the home with our dog and I enjoyed the fire place and hot tub! The views from the house are spectacular! If you see availability at this house, book it, you won’t regret it!

Home Away From Home
I can't say enough good things about our stay at Above the Clouds. Marianne is one of the most attentive owners I have ever worked with, before, during and after our stay. She truly wants to make sure your visit is the best it can possibly be! The home was not only beautiful, but it was incredibly clean, organized and well cared for. Nothing was overlooked - it was truly set up to offer guests exactly what they needed before they even realized they needed it. If we are ever back in this part of Vermont again, we will definitely be staying at Above the Clouds!

Amazing Rental!!!!
We stayed at this property over the long holiday MLK weekend and it was truly amazing. Everything was incredible - the small welcome gifts the owners left for us, the detailed instructions on anything we needed help with, the hot tub (with slippers!), and all the space in the kitchen and dining/living areas! The view is worth the visit on it's own, especially while soaking in the hot tub! The beds were all very comfy, and heated bathroom floors - true luxury! The distance from Sugarbush was fine, and the drive brings you by markets and restaurants so it's perfect. This will be the first property we look to rent whenever we return to the Mad River Valley!!!

I live in the mountains in Central Vermont. My husband and I love to garden, walk our dogs, canoe, kayak, hike, bike, snowshoe, take beautiful photos and host community gatherings at our home. We're environmental professionals... mostly retired... and truly enjoy meeting new people. We delight in eating good food and eat organically as much as possible and shop at the local farmer's market in Waitsfield in the summer. We love to travel and spent 6 weeks in Europe during the summer of '16 (using Airbnb and Servas) -- Paris, Florence, Scotland and Switzerland. Our days were filled with hiking, eating great food and taking in the beauty of each place we visited. We were fortunate to meet many good people during our travels and hope to see some of them again. We are both perpetual optimists and consider ourselves practical visionaries as we were mostly cutting-edge social entrepreneurs during our working lives. As hosts we meet each of our guests as you arrive and we show and explain to you what and where things are in the guesthouse. During that time we also do our best to guide guests to the places, restaurants and activities you tell us you want to see/do. The guest house has an extensive collection of books, maps and flyers about Vermont businesses, outings and events so there will never be a lack of things for you to do even in bad weather. We take pleasure in sharing our knowledge and love of Vermont and this particular region and trust it enriches each person's stay. We value the privacy of our guests so we make it our practice to not contact you after our initial meeting unless you reach out to us during your stay.

Why they chose this property
