About this property

The historic Mill House on Mirror Lake and, Cullasaja River on 1 Acre

The Mill House is located on one of the most beautiful, tranquil settings you will ever see. It overlooks the lake spillway on beautiful Mirror Lake. The Cullasaja River wraps the house surrounded by Native Rhodedendren and Mountain Laurel. Kitchen was recently renovated. This 3 level house is perfect for small and large groups. There are plenty of wonderful spots to spend time, whether it be around the fire pit, sitting by the little pond overlooking the lake, eating on the deck by the river, sitting on the screen porch on lower level by river, or sitting on one of the balconies overlooking the waterwheel, lake and river. You choose!! You can hear the sound of rushing water from every room. It has a large deck, comfortable screened porch and an upstairs covered porch overlooking the river on two sides of the house and a sitting area next to a goldfish pond overlooking the river and Mirror Lake. This completely renovated authentic mill makes a delightful setting for relaxation.

A water wheel, rushing water, 2 canoes and a river and beautiful Mirror Lake full of fish, all available on the same beautiful property. TRULY BEAUTIFUL and that is just the outside. The completely renovated house (with over 100 years of history) has a family room, den, master bedroom with sitting area, fireplace and beautiful view, 3 other bedrooms, and a bunk room with 2 sets of bunk beds (4 bunk beds). There is a screened porch w a water view that opens to both the downstairs den and kitchen.

There are lots of private places to 'sneak away' to relax, read a book, or snooze in the cool mountain air. Great deck for outdoor dining and big kitchen table for indoor dining. Only one mile from downtown Highlands, close to golf, shopping, restaurants, spa and wonderful hiking.

Take a look, you will LOVE it. BEAUTIFUL, COMFORTABLE, RELAXING and all the comforts of home. Great for a romantic getaway or a family reunion. Nothing like it in Highlands; it is truly unique.

Relaxing home in the heart of Highlands
Great home, minutes from downtown Highlands, but very private with the sound of the spillway and the river flowing around the property. Enjoyed the firepit overlooking the spillway of Mirror Lake and had fun fishing. Very comfortable for adults, teens, and children. Owner was very responsive. Very close to a number of great waterfalls. Kids mentioned they wanted to return.

A Family Christmas in Highkands
The Mill House was a perfect place for my family and young grandsons. Enough room to spread out. Comfortable beds. Great outdoor area with big fire pit. And right on the dam and the river ran under our deck. We decorated it for Christmas. Many family memories made! Would definitely go back!

Yet Another Perfect Vacation!
We were fortunate enough to get to spend our second Thanksgiving in your wonderful cabin. The Mill House is just charming, from the first time you drive onto the property, to the late-evening family fire-pit time outside listening to the beautiful falls, and everything else in between. We had plenty of spacious bedrooms and bathrooms for our large extended family, we spent as much time outdoors as we did indoors, and we loved every minute of our trip. Thank you so much for creating such a warm, comfortable, and beautiful place to create new family memories.

Great Mountain Respite!
We recently had a fabulous stay at the Mill House. The house has so much character and charm. We call it "rustic mountain chic". There are a variety of spaces inside and out to enjoy the refreshing mountain weather and beauty. The house is at the Mirror Lake dam and Cullasaja River. The water noise from the dam and stream is like a beautiful constant white noise. The home has plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms and a well appointed kitchen. Initially we were concerned about possible road noise but the background of the rushing water completely masks any minimal road noise. Our biggest daily dilemma was which space inside and outside to sit and enjoy! This is a lovely home and well suited for small or large groups. We highly recommend Mill House!

Pure Mountain Paradise
We checked in and were thrilled that it was even better than we expected. We were directly on a mountain stream with a dam which provided both beauty and the tranquil sound of rushing water. Because of the age of Mill House we were treated to a true mountain retreat. There was more than enough room for our friends to rest in comfort and privacy. The deck over the water was extra special. A local hawk calls the area home which provided additional entertainment. The house had everything needed for our long stay which was great. The location of Mill House is perfect. You are a mile from downtown Highlands and close to the water falls heading towards Franklin. Jackson Hole Gem Mine is 8 miles from the house which is always an adventure. We took first-timers and they loved mining for stones and had several pieces if beautiful jewelry made to take back with them. We do this EVERY time we’re in the mountains and are never disappointed. There are many fabulous restaurants in town for the evenings you might not want to cook and don’t miss Dusty’s Rhodes Superette for the best surprise of all! The Thrashers were wonderful hosts and made our vacation the most special ever.

We are the Thrasher family and are GA natives residing in Atlanta. We have 3 sons (now have added 2 wonderful daughters in law and now have 5 grandchildren). We love to have great family time together. We love a place to get away from the city in the cool, clean mountain air to unwind and enjoy time together with family and friends. We enjoy hiking, canoeing, exploring, fishing, relaxing, strolling through downtown, eating good meals, enjoy jogging or strolling, doing a little or doing a lot, depending on our mood for the day. Each of our sons love bringing friends and other families up to the Mill House to create memories for their families. It is a great place for us to spend quality time together.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with not only the house but the beautiful, relaxing unique setting on over 1 acre property surrounded by the Cullasaja River and on Mirror Lake. It truly is a unique amazing getaway, yet only 2 hours from Atlanta, and in the city limits of Highlands. And yet, we feel like we are out in the country, but we have all the conveniences and good things about being in a small town. It is a great escape from the summer heat of Atlanta. We enjoy the change of seasons here as well as spending time in a cozy home when it is cold and snowing.

What makes this property unique

The house has a wonderful history. It operated as a timber mill in the early 1900's until a family purchased it in the early 1930's and converted it to a cabin to be used as a family mountain retreat. We have been told they had milk cows in the front yard. The original water wheel which provided electricity back then is still in operation today. In the 1980s the house was operated as a bed and breakfast by the daughter of the man that built it. It has been totally renovated and added on to several times, and most recently (Spring 2013) had a total kitchen renovation. The house has all the conveniences, but yet retains the charm of a mountain cabin. Amazing views out of every window, close to town, yet seems remote. Beautiful places to jog or walk. For example right across Franklin Road you can walk up North Cobb Drive around the Highlands Country Club golf course, very beautiful walk also great for jogging. This property seemed to have it all. We have loved it and would love to share it with you and your family and friends.
